Brian and Gina, the main characters in Runaway 2: The Dream of The Turtle - Image 1 It's starting to look like a wave of point and click adventures is slowly but surely invading the Nintendo Wii home video game console. Following announcements of a DS version in the works, a Wii version of Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle is also on the way.

Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle is a point and click adventure title from Pendulo Studios, S.L. and Focus Home Interactive. It was first released in North America as a PC title back in March of this year. It follows the story of Brian Basco, his girlfriend Gina and their adventures while on vacation in Hawaii.

Runaway 2 - Image 1CDV Software Entertainment has announced that their Pendulo Studios-developed PC adventure game, Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle, has gone gold and will be hitting shelves on March 12.

Featuring zany male characters, wild ladies,  six game chapters, and more than 100 different locations including Hawaii and Alaska, the game will also have cel-shaded 2D AND 3D environments. Part of the comical twist of the game are the weird puzzles you'll have to solve as you progress through the game.

Just how weird these puzzles will be? Think of it this way, you got a physics student and an ex-stripper thrown together in one big island adventure, and you'll agree with us when we say that the possibilities are endless.

Runaway 2 screenshots - Image 1 Runaway 2 screenshots - Image 2

The game Runaway 2: Dream of the Turtle from CDV Software Entertainment USA and Focus Home Interactive is the sequel of Runaway: A Road Adventure. The original game which was released by Pendulo Studios in 2006 is a point and click adventure game. The second iteration follows the same pattern which hearkens back to the golden age of adventure gaming (oh, how I miss the Maniac Mansion series).

The story of the second...I'm not going to spoil it. Let's just say that you and a bunch of rag-tag misfits are trying to solve a mystery. The story is split up into six chapters, with more than 100 different locations to visit and see. As standard in this type of game you will find puzzles that range from mild brain teaser to mind liquefying.

While it isn't necessary to have played the first iteration, fans of the first game will find familiar characters such as Joshua the mad professor, Sushi Douglas, and others. The original soundtrack for the game looks to be a very good backdrop to all the adventuring you will be doing (as if the soundtrack of the first wasn't addicting enough) with Vera( the ex-singer of Liquor) and Rykc (who made the kick@ss opening song) putting in some tunes.

If this game is everything adventure gamers hope it'll be, then perhaps there is life in the adventure gaming genre yet. This game is slated for release this March 12. While waiting for the release, you can check out some of the screenshots in its cel-shaded glory.

Joshua - Image 1We've introduced you to Brian and Gina, and the laaadieees in Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle, now get a load of some of the guys you'll be meeting once you get your hands on the game.

Now don't be thrown off by Joshua here (see image on the right), because not all characters in the game will be as...err...geeky. You also got a hot Aussie surfer, a mad professor, a corrupt colonel, an actor, a Bohemian scientist, and a Jamaican to spice up your turtlish dream gameplay experience. That said, why don't we run down the guys you'll be seeing in the game, eh?
  • Knife - daring, crackbrained, impassioned, unreliable. Hyperactive. Loves all kind of “deportes de riesgo”. In love with Lokelani.
  • Joshua - Gawky, unaware, fabulous, with problems understanding the real world. Freakishly intelligent. Child-like. Always hungry.
  • Kordsmeier - Lunatic, haughty, obsessed. Loves his soldiers, hates all civilians. Unspoken struggle for power with Tarantula.
  • Dean - Overbearing, arrogant, fake, chauvinistic. Sees Brian as a freshman.
  • Saturno - Hyperactive. Mad about science, art, and modernity. Mix between a mad scientist and a bohemian Artist.
  • Rutger - Hypoactive. Hooked on botanics (especially a particular kind of "funny plant," if yenno what I mean. Harhar). Relaxed, half-asleep, agreeable.
And that's only some of 'em, you can expect even more wacky individuals to cause chaos on your screens when the game hits the shelves this March. Currently brewing at Pendulo Studios, Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle is one adventure game you wouldn't want to miss out on. And to give you a quick-see of them game characters, here are a few character renders to ogle at. Enjoy!

Runaway 2

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over. There's still some stuff to look forward to in Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle. Edging into the scene like a well-placed Diaz-Barrymore-Liu Charlie's Angels trio (ok, fine, plus Demi Moore), four girls are heating up Pendulo Studios' upcoming adventure game.

Now, to introduce the game's four lovely ladies...

Tarantula is the arrogant, cold-blooded mercenary employed by the Colonel. Lokelani plays the "chica tonta" role among the four, and yet she's still very much of a seductress. Brainiest of the bunch, Sushi's self-sufficient, intuitive, and used to leadership. And finally, there's sweet and shy Camille who's eager to become and adventurer and easily excited about new things.

With regards to who these chicks eventually end up with and how they relate to the other characters in the game, that's left for you to find out. We don't want to spoil ya. The game's to be released this March 12. You can hold your anticipation 'til then, right?

Runaway2 - Image 7

Genre:
Adventure

Developer: Pendulo Studios

Storyline: In the sequel to Runaway: A Road to Adventure, unlikely couple Brian and Gina go on vacation determined to put their misadventures behind them. But being Brian and Gina, the dream vacation in Hawaii turns into another set of misadventures after their plane crashes and they stumble upon a secret military camp and other covert activities.

Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle features six main chapters set in more than 100 different places around the world. And puzzles of advancing difficulty levels for players to solve.

Who should buy this game: If you enjoyed the prequel by all means buy Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle. If you like European humor, sexy characters, and weird puzzles this is for you, too. If you've been itching to force someone to eat raw salmon (you have to play the game for this to make sense) then it's a "must buy". Unfortunately, Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle has been plagued by delays and last we heard it won't be out till sometime 2007. Meanwhile, the new screenshots look nice, don't they?

Brian and GinaIn the prequel Runaway: Road Adventure, main characters Brian and Gina's paths cross while Brian is on his way to the University of California. He almost turns Gina into roadkill when she runs in front of his car trying to escape the men she saw murder her father. What a way to start a relationship!

Not the hit-and-run type, Brian takes Gina to the nearest hospital and helps her flee from the men when he hears the rest of her sob story.

In Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle the two continue their misadventures with more twists and turns than Chubby Checker's got in his whole career. Chubby who? Never mind.  If you missed Runway 1, which is a shame because it was a big hit, here's a primer on the two stars who are not out of the woods yet.

Brian Basco is a physics student who who just got accepted to the University of California, Berkeley. He starts out shy and nerdy. But his love for Gina brings out the Jock in him. In the sequel, he is no longer the tense, timid student but more confident. Or is he? Could be false bravado for all we know.

Gina Timmins is an ex-stripper whose astrological house must be ruled by Murphy's Law. Gina has a talent for attracting trouble the way carcass draws in flies. The one thing she did right is run into Brian. With her bad luck and with Brian's John Wayne chivalry, the two stumble upon mysterious events that light up their next adventure!

Unfortunately, it will take a while to see what happens next, as a release date hasn't been set yet by Pendulo Studios.

turtle turtle

From Pendulo Studios comes an adventure that will take you to more than a hundred different places in all four corners of the globe.

Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle
is a game filled to the brim with puzzles, mystery, and fun that will surely challenge you. And as with every other challenging game, the difficulty levels do advance according to your progress. But worry not, as they have made sure that no one will be stuck in one stage of the game for too long. Nobody likes a mediocre, eh?

Ironically, though, turtles don't seem to have any pivotal role in this game, contrary to what the title suggests. Then again, its authors are keen on keeping a lot of stuff under wraps about this game so as not to ruin the surprise. Find this turtle leaping onto retail stores' shelves by January next year.
