Paradox Interactive presents Dark Horizon trailer - Image 1Space simulations haven't been 'verse-shaking since Volition's last epic rendering of Descent FreeSpace 2, but they have always come at sweet times when the ache for a FreeSpace 3 and Descent 4 have been pulsing at an all-time high. Space Wolves and Tarr Chronicles were lovely distractions while the X universe continues to provide a leisurely sandbox experience. But some really need that sci-fi dogfighting fix, and Paradox Interactive hopes to  deliver with Dark Horizon (no relation to the flash game). Details and video flow at the full story.

Paradox Interactive accepts consoles as a way of creating a niche for PC games - Image 1PC games have always taken the backseat when it comes to its share of the gamers' market. However, in a recent interview conducted by Eurogamer with Johan Andersson, producer of Paradox Interactive, believes that consoles are actually helping niche PC titles prosper.

He explains that the reason behind this is the fact that more and more people are getting into gaming thanks to video game consoles. Because of this, the market for what kind of games people are looking for become more defined, making it easier for them to aim for a particular type of market to sell their games to. Andersson explains:

I don't want to predict where PC gaming in general is going, but for us, the increase in consoles has made the market more segmented, and consequently made it easier for us to reach our target audience and vice versa.

This is most evident with the release of Paradox Interactive's Europa Universalis III on the PC platform. The well-known strategy game already has a solid following created by its superior sales when it first came out. While the company's flagship title takes it roots from the PC, Andersson recognizes the fact that there may be a possibility for expanding the market by introducing the game to the console or the hand-held platform like the Nintendo DS.

Europa Universalis isn't the only game planning to make a move to the consoles. Other games like Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution is already confirmed to have found its way onto several consoles and hand-held platforms, ensuring the possibility that PC gaming isn't quite dead yet.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep - Image 1 Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep - Image 2

We have here a handful of screenshots of Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, one of the three Kingdom Hearts prequels slated for the handheld consoles (including mobile phones).

We previously reported about the translated transcripts of the Kingdom Hearts trailers shown in TGS, but were not able to provide visuals of the trailer. Well, with these screenshots we now have a better idea of who we can expect to see in the game.

Judging by these Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep screens, PSP gamers will now be able to control a decidedly older character in the world of Kingdom Hearts, compared to the previous playable characters Sora and Roxas. The "Enigmatic Soldier's" name is Terra, whose origins and identity are unknown at this point.

We have also mentioned in the trailer transcripts about the appearance of Ven, a boy who looks like Roxas, and an old man named Xehanort. These screenshots now show you how they look like, but their appearance only serves to thicken the plot: Ven looks almost exactly like Roxas, down to his wrist band. And what about old Xehanort? Could this be a time paradox?

Certainly very interesting screenshots. More updates to come!
