The title doesn't strike you, does it? But if you're familiar with Streets of Rage and King of Fighters, then OpenBOR isn't something you should let pass. From the engine that allowed Beats of Rage (BOR) to debut on the PC comes the open source version for multiple platforms. Homebrew coder SamuraiX released OpenBOR version 2.1933 for the PSP the day before yesterday, along with Linux (PC, PS3), GamePark, GP2X, DreamCast, Xbox, and Windows versions as well. All you need to know is at the full story.Download: OpenBOR v2.1933 (Linux on PC and PS3, PSP, GP2X, DreamCast, Xbox, and Windows) |

The folks at Lavalit have upgraded their OpenBoR project by leaps and bounds, adding new features and updating commands for people to use with the program. Before we move on to their extensive changelog, let's go and explain what OpenBoR is first. It's a program that allows people to make and play their own fighting and action game modules. In this case, you can play everything from remakes of Double Dragon to homebrew fighting games based on Final Fight. In any case, below is the changelog for you to peruse. We suggest you also take a look at their website though, as the actual mods you can use, as well as the latest updates for OpenBoR, will probably be put up their before anything else. Enjoy! By SX: 1. Dynamic Animation Frame Memory Manager (No more Frame Limits and Also reduces memory by HALF!!!) 2. Memory utilizations in system options menu (shows how much memory is being utilized by your mod) 3. Controller I/O interface redesigned for PSP (Thinking of wifi mulitplayer next on the list). 4. XBoX now uses Sprite Flip Technique. 5. XBoX now supports 4 Player Control. More of the changelog after the jump! Download: OpenBoR v2.0691 |

It's been a while since we last updated you guys on SamuraiX's OpenBoR (almost two months in fact, our bad). So to make up for that brief hiatus, we're here to bring you guys his latest update to his BeatEm UP Engine. For v2.0051, SamuraiX says that there have been a few features added but only if you're a modder. He assures us though that PSP and DC users will also appreciate one of the new features he's added in this version of his homebrew game, which is the Sprite Database Management. Let's get the lowdown on this straight from SamuraiX, shall we? Modders tend to reuse sprites such as walking, running, etc... over and over and instead of allocating space for every sprite I now reuse the original sprite and its ID. So what does this mean to you then gamer....2MBytes of RAM has been saved on mods like Final Fight Appocolypse 2nd and Battle Toads. However, a huge mod like A Tale Of Vengence we are saving 8MBytes of memory. And of course, he's also fixed some bugs from the previous version, but he says that if you find any more bugs, you can post it at his site (link below) where, as SamuraiX says, "you can also find the weekly updates to the engine and all the mods you can handle." So with that, we'll just let you guys check out OpenBoR v2.0051 for yourself, just click on the link below and you're all set. Download: [OpenBoR v2.0051 for PSP/DC/DOS/WIN] |

It's been a while since the last update, but coder SamuraiX is back with a new update for OpenBoR. This new version is firmware 2.71SE-A compatible, allows users to preview paks in the menu, and it now has an upgraded LogFile system. It also has a new save system which now has slots for each difficulty mode, but alas - old saves are no longer compatible. Now, what we really like about this new version is it now utilizes an extra 4MB of OS space. That means if you've been having trouble with mods that require quite a bit of memory then you can now bid a not-so-fond farewell to those problems. SamuraiX says that the extra 4MB of OS space is from the suspend/sleep mode that is unsupported by OpenBoR. The extra memory then gets released back to the OS when you exit the engine. Click on the download link below to get the latest version of OpenBoR and start beating up the baddies. Download: [OpenBoR v2.0049-028 PSP] |

OpenBoR (Beats of Rage) is back with the latest update and we can tell you there's a lot of new things in here. SamuraiX and Fugue continue their winning collaboration on this game and here is just a few of the spanking new things you'll find in v2.0049.
From Fugue: New Attack Types. There are three new attack types: attack2, attack3, and attack4. They work just like shock, burn, and attack. The only difference is that they don't change to the last frame of the normal FALL animation when their FALL animation is finished (shock and burn both do this). These also have custom PAIN, FALL, and DEATH animations, naturally (PAIN2, FALL2, DEATH2, PAIN3, FALL3, etc.). SamuraiX, from BOR Revolution, has announced that our favorite homebrew freeware video game has gotten a new build. If last month's Beats of Rage v1.2 release is any indication on what you can expect from this latest one, then you know that you're going to get great stuff. Fugue and samuraiX, both have written a very lengthy post on what's new on OpenBoR's new build. And you must try the Kill Bill PAK. You simply must. Fugue says: Vaulting: Give all your grabbable enemies a height value. Give a player a non-looping VAULT animation. Instead of putting the offset point at the player's feet, put it at the location you want the player to rotate around. For instance, if you want the player to grab the enemy's shoulders and flip over them, put it where the player's hands are. Also, add a blank frame (one whose graphic only has the transparent color in it) with a delay of 1 before the VAULT animation begins. Now, start up the game and go grab someone. Press jump. The player will play their vault animation, and their offset will be centered on the enemy, at their head level. Once the animation is finished, the player will turn around. At the moment, all it does is put you behind the opponent. The blank frame with a delay of 1 is just there to take care of a bug that we've been unable to fix so far. It's really hard to see the blank frame, even when you look for it, so it shouldn't be a problem. One more thing- for now, don't try vaulting when next to a wall. Currently, it'll just put the player inside the wall. This will be fixed later. New attack types: There are three new attack types: attack2, attack3, and attack4. Also, there are new SDIE and BDIE animations, which will be played when a victim is killed by a shock attack or a burn attack, respectively. CHARGEATTACK: If this animation is present, players will use it instead of the last attack in their atchain when they hold down attack for three seconds and let go.
