The TVersity team have announced that their media server app is now at version 1.0 RC1. While a changelog isn't available yet, the developers did note some of the features that come packed with this new release. You can view them over in the full article.

Bad luck has struck owners of Sony's PlayStation 3 console. Instead of fixing the known issues with it, people have noticed that the Firmware 2.20 update is causing problems when streaming mpeg-4 video files which sometimes render files unplayable. Find out the details after the jump!

PlayStation 3 owners who want to share files by way of homebrew may check out the application called PiMPStreamer DLNA for PlayStation 3 from the coder DickyDick1969. As a matter of fact, the coder has just rolled out version 1.1 which fixes stability among other things. Know more after the jump!

After some months without any word, it seems DIckyDick1969 is back with a new release. This time, he's released PiMPStreamer DLNA for PS3, which appears to allow for unlimited file sharing options from PC to PS3. More on this application after the jump!

Even digital audio suffers from generation loss after conversions. This results in an inferior sound output when compared to the original source. Wadia Digital is now offering something for iPod owners that may prove to be unaffected by such conversion problems.

Called the iTransport, the product can supposedly turn the iPod into high-end media server by providing "perfect" audio and video output. More details after the jump!

TVersity allows easier access to users Internet and home media collection by letting them stream to and from the Sony console. The good folks behind the nifty application have just released a new version just before the year ends.

The current generation of consoles on the market today are powerful machines and carry a lot of features so sometimes it's a little hard to keep track of what they can do. Here's one feature a lot of you may not have been aware of but may find useful: you can stream media (music, video, photos) from your PC to your PS3 and then using Remote Play, stream it to your PSP. Jacob Jarick has given word that he is officially retiring from developing WiiCR, a media player solution for the Wii. This is unfortunate news for the rest of the community as the homebrew was supposed to allow the console to act as a media server.

In addition to this, the final version was said to be capable of transcoding nearly any video file to the flv format for an embedded flash player and allow remote filesystem viewing of videos and other media.

In the official site of the homebrew, the developer said that "I'm officially retiring from development of this project with the reason being I am utterly bored with the Nintendo Wii software library and sick to death of the 1/2 arsed opera browser." He then cited a few of the shortcomings of the console as his reason for dropping the project.

At the end of his farewell post, he noted that anyone is free to take over the project if they want to. Hopefully, some enterprising coder will take up the mantel and continue this program's development.

 

QJ reader Andreas Heim alerts us that he wrote a how-to on his blog that instructs folks on how to set up a linux UPnP media server that has PlayStation 3 support. The how-to was made possible by the recent update for MediaTomb.

Based on how this not-that-tech-y blogger's understanding of the how-to, you have to get MediaTomb running and then you have to make a few modifications to it to get it to work with the PS3.

Mr. Heim notes though that for now, MediaTomb only supports the PS3's native mpeg4 format. He also notes that it all doesn't "work out of the box" for him.
