Blu-ray - Image 1In a move that just might boost the sales of both PS3s and HDTVs in Australia, entertainment retail chain JB Hi-Fi has thrown its support behind Sony's new format.

JB Hi-Fi is only one of more than twenty Australian companies who have voiced support for Sony's Blu-ray format at its official launch in Sydney.

According to IT Wire, JB Hi-Fi has declared that it will only stock Blu-ray products and not those of the rival HD-DVD format.

"Blu-ray is the only format that has the ability to tell the whole story, with the most comprehensive offering on the market," said JB Hi-Fi marketing director Scott Browning. "With seven of Hollywood’s leading studios accounting for the vast majority of 2006’s home video sales, among the 170 plus companies globally that support Blu-ray Disc, it makes sense that content will be king when it comes to Blu-ray."

PS3So while everyone in Europe doesn't seem to mind (according to Jamie MacDonald) the PS3's delay, some readers on our blogs have been commenting otherwise. For example, Mercenary says, "I live in the UK and let me tell you, we're pissed. We're sick and tired of waiting. The PSP was a prime example."

Well, for those of you who might have the same sentiments, you'd be glad to hear that Stuff is having a show in which they'd be debuting the PS3 for the gamers to take a crack at and go hands-on with the console. It's going to be the first time that the general UK market will have a chance to experience the PS3 first-hand.

A Sony spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz that this event will be the perfect opportunity to allow the consumers to take a crack at both the hardware and upcoming software titles for the PS3.

The event which will take place at the Novotel London West hotel in Hammersmith on November 3-5 will be part of the What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision Show. So, whether you mind the PS3 delay or not, there's still Stuff to fill you in on the scoop.

Customer loyalty and good timing pay off. Elizabeth Rodriguez comes into Apple Store Fifth Avenue last Saturday. Elizabeth becomes Apple Store's one millionth customer served since opening on May 19th this year. The rewards? Ms. Rodriguez walks out with a MacBook, an iPod, an iPod Hi-Fi and an Apple ProCare membership.

Apple STore (5th Ave.)'s One Millionth Customer: Elizabeth Rodriguez. Dang, that should have been one of us!

(Somewhere nearby, we'll bet Customer #999,999 must have gone "Oh snap, that should have been me!" So did all of us Apple fans at QJ).

One million customers in about four or five months... Apple's selling like McDonalds if this keeps up. And Ms. Rodriguez isn't the only lucky something-millionth customer of Apple's. Back in June, Amy Greer won herself 10 iPods, a 10,000-song iTMS gift card, 10 additional 50-song iTMS gift cards, and four Coldplay concert tickets and backstage passes just for dowloading the five hundred millionth song from iTunes. And that was just two weeks after the promo was announced.

We wonder what Apple Store's giving to their two millionth customer?

WharfdaleThe $380 price tag on Wharfdale Hi-Fi stereo system just proves that including computers in home theater setups is still in its infant stage. But not to totally disappoint, it may actually be a good start and is sure to open up a lot of innovations in the future.

The very core of the stereo is a 40GB hard drive that allows enough space to store approximately 8,000 songs. Expanding your collection is easy as it is USB-compatible. A CD-R/RW allows ripping off of audio tracks and converting them into MP3 format right there and then. You can listen to its AM/FM radio while thinking what song you want next to rip and add.

Power rating for the two speakers is 30 watts and an LCD display for track information Wharfdale queried in its databases much similar to other audio systems. This is just the beginning and we expect to see more hybrids of this kind in the future.

Oono TransmitaTired of listening to your favorite MP3 tracks through your headphones? Wanna share to everybody your favorite song of the moment? You could do that and so much more with the Oono Transmita. Just what in the world is it? Well, setting aside the quite hilarious name, the Oono Transmita is being packaged as a very useful little product for those who like music.

Basically, it gives you the freedom to listen to the music you love in the way you want. One end plugs into what you want to play, the other end plugs into where you want to play it. With this little baby at hand, you could play your MP3 player through your hi-fi, music from your computer through your DAB Digital Radio, your cassette player through your garden speakers.

There's just one limitation to all these though -- the 'speakers' should have a Line In port and the player should have a headphone socket so that you can use it at any combination that suits you.

According to the company who manufactured this one, the best part of this system is the fact that the transmitters can be up to 50m apart and still work. This means the 'speakers' and the player do not even need to be in the same room, giving you the freedom to roam wherever the music takes you. Personally, the best thing about this baby is its price tag: for $65 you can be the proud owner of this useful contraption, that is if you're the type who just loves to hear music in every corner of the house.

MAJ-U4CT1

Sanyo, who has been fighting to gain respect in the world of electronics business, has recently released a contraption that converges old technology and the technology of today. The Japanese company has came up with a compact Hi-Fi set tagged as
the MAJ-U4CT1. It has a CD Player, a Tape player (don't go burning your cassette tapes just yet), a FM Tuner and a SD card reader recorder. Nice digs!

And aside from the fact that it can play your old tapes, it also has some pretty nice features with regards to mp3 files. Thanks to its SD player/reader, you will be able to rip files from a CD to a SD and play them on a SD-based Mp3 player, without any PC intervention. Another nifty feature on this model is its USB HOST port which will let you play any Audio files (MP3/WMA) stored on a USB Key for example. So far, there is no word on its price tag and availability, but we will keep you posted.
