PlayStation Network Video Content Update - Image 1Whoa, way overdue, but this is a good batch for last week's PSN video content update, largely because I still get laughs out of The 40-Year-Old-Virgin. Other notables include the unrated director's cut of Miami Vice, Gran Torino, Sniper, and the zombie movies Dawn and Land of the Dead  - both unrated. You get to catch those in glorious HD, as well as other movies now available for download.

Dead Rising - Image 1Earlier this year, Capcom was sued by the firm handling George A. Romero's zombie films, the MKR Group. The lawsuit accused Dead Rising of being too similar to Dawn of the Dead. Now, a Judge has ruled that the lawsuit can be dismissed because MKR simply can't sue Capcom for something that isn't protected. Meanwhile, Capcom may have won the case, but at a rather sour note, the Judge also gave quite a stinging remark about the game.

On Blu-ray This Week: October 1 to 7, 2007 - Image 1

This week's dose of Blu-ray releases will probably have you busting out the popcorn, turning off the lights, and cowering in your couches. Just in time for Halloween preparations, the releases for this week are dominated by the subject of the dead who won't stay dead, the undead, the living dead, and George A. Romero flicks.

Arguably, those four are the same thing but we digress. Included in this week's releases are a smattering of various other titles that will definitely pique your interest, a documentary, and A Room With a View. Let's check out the releases, shall we?

First off, Halloween (1978). You know, the start of Michael Myers' career slashing in an effort to get rid of everyone in his family. He hunts down his sister, Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), and basically kills everyone who gets in his way. Definitely a pick for the coming horror movie marathon at the end of this month, eh?

Next comes the movie about THE infamous vampire. Bram Stoker's Dracula in based on the novel and stars Gary Oldman as the two-legged lamprey... er, vampire and Winona Ryder as Mina Murray. The movie tackles the events that led to Dracula turning into a vampire plus what happened when he met Mina. Add the name Van Helsing into the mix and you've got something big in your hands.

Deviating from the pack of horror movies for this week's Blu-ray releases is Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. This group of superheroes have far more problems other than their nemesis Dr. Doom. The Silver Surfer has paid our galaxy a call and as all comicbook heads would know, heralds the coming of evil devourer of worlds Galactus. What are superheroes supposed to do?

The complete list of Blu-ray releases this week is at the full article.

Left 4 Dead - Image 1

Want another dose of Counter-Strike crossed with George A. Romero movies? We already heard what Turtle Rock Studios (Michael Booth) and Valve (Eric Johnson and Doug Lombardi) had to say. Today we have some new screenshots from the co-op first person shooter, Left 4 Dead.

Left 4 Dead lets players take the role of any of the four survivors (much like any other zombie movie) or the "Boss Infected" zombies. Sounds fun, much like playing terrorist and counter-terrorist in Counter-Strike. Only in this title you choose between two gameplay perspectives: one who's trying to stay alive (hunted) and the one who's trying to eat people for lunch (hunter). In the screenshots, we see an assortment of zombies. We'd hate to get in the way of that big guy.

Anyway, here are the screenshots. Left 4 Dead is bound to hit the PC and the Xbox360, hopefully this year. In the meantime, stay tuned.

Rainbow Six: Vegas

For all intents and purposes, have you downloaded the demo of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas yet? If not, then there's no reason for you not to. Especially more so now since we're bringing you some screenshots to help convince yourself to finally get the demo and of course, eventually, the game itself on November 7th (the PS3 version comes out on the 17th).

Personally, I don't know why, but looking at these screens makes me think of zombies. Maybe that's just because I'm still in the whole funk of Dead Rising. Either that or I'm just plain weird (which is the most likely case of the two). While we know that zombies don't frequent in Tom Clancy games at all, it'd still be interesting to go blasting their brains off FPS-style using rifles and silencers with neon lights, poker tables, and palm trees in the background.

Here's to hoping George A. Romero is listening...

Time flies when you're playing a great video game! Hard to believe, but Resident Evil (aka Biohazard in Japan) has been around for a full decade. The highly successful survival-horror franchise by Capcom, created by Shinji Mikami and influenced by George A. Romero's 'Dead' films, has sold over 30 million copies as of February 2006. That's more than the all records sold by David Hasselhoff, Paris Hilton and Ashlee Simpson combined!

Resident Evil is widely is considered as the title that turned the survival horror game genre into a cash-cow for many developers. Originally a video game, Resident Evil spawned comic books and novels, Hollywood action films, and a variety of action figures.

To commemorate its 10th year of war against the rotting creeps, Capcom issued official Resident Evil zombie-fighting uniforms that are so cool even the undead would want to wear them. The bad news? They are only available in Japan (technically they're really Biohazard uniforms), like the stamps that they issued to commemorate the event. The rest of the world will just have to fight zombies in their jammies.
