PlayStation Network - Image 1PS3 firmware 3.0, which carries a rather hefty set of additions and tweaks, is all set to go live on September 1. This is a major update, to say the least, and according to Sony's PSN operations director Eric Lempel, it's the last big firmware release we'll see this year. This doesn't necessarily mean that Sony won't roll out further updates this year after 3.0 hits, however. More from Lempel after the jump.

Sony PSP - Image 1Last June, Director of PSN Operations Eric Lempel broke a  lot of gamer hearts when he flat-out rejected the idea of having trophies on board the PSP. The reason was that it will be very prone to cheating, and, well, that's just not fair. Today, we're hearing somebody else from Sony talk about the matter, pretty much echoing the same thing. Not just anybody, actually. This month's bearer of PSP bad news: Shu Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios.

PlayStation Network - Image 1PSN Operations Director, Eric Lempel, has a lot of fighting words to say about the state of online service, the PlayStation Home. And it all boils down to this: there's no more fighting with Xbox Live. He also said something about their "competition" with Apple, saying that they don't necessarily want to go down the path of offering various software options, particularly for the PSP, because they don't want to degrade the experience. open - Image 1Sony earlier released a minor system update for the PS3. According to the official announcement by Eric Lempel, the PS3 update 2.80  will improve the playback quality of some PS3 format software. But it looks like the firmware update is not just to improve the quality of games as dashhacker have discovered. Apparently the new update blocks Open Remote Play, a homebrew program created by dashhacker that allows you to access the PS3's Remote Play feature from any laptop, desktop or mobile phone.
