Moon, the Earth's solitary satellite - Image 1NASA has devised a rather unconventional way of exploring the moon's South Pole. The space agency's latest mission involves crashing one of two lunar spacecrafts into a flat surface on the satellite's southern area. T. Rex - Image 1If you thought that once upon a time, happy dinosaurs were killed off by a giant, blazing rock with "death from above" written all over it, you may only be half right. According to the latest research, the impact probably killed the larger land creatures, but the smaller species could have succumbed to a more watery fate. Curious? read the full article for the skinny on it.

Dungeons and Dragons Online Module 6 - Image 1The developers of Codemaster's Dungeons & Dragons Online have given word that they are already testing some of the new features that they plan on adding in Module 6. While Module 5 focused more on game balance and bug fixes, this latest update adds more gameplay features such as a higher level cap, more spells, and new feats.

Players will be happy to know that the level cap has been increased to 16. This move opens up new spells such as Polar Ray, Sunburst, Horrid Wilting, Otto's Irresistible Dance, Greater Shout, Summon Monster VIII, Trap the Soul and Charm Monster for Wizards and Sorcerers. In addition, Clerics will now get both Mass Cure Critical Wounds and Mass Inflict Critical Wounds.

New feats have also been added to the game such as Force of Personality (Prq: Cha 13) which allows users to use the highest modifier from either the charisma or wisdom stats for Will saves and Insightful Reflexes (Prq: Int 13) which automatically chooses the higher modifier from both intelligence and dexterity when making a reflex save.

It looks like Codemasters plans to add a lot of changes to the MMORPG with Module 6. Hopefully, most of the planned additions make it into game since a lot of the features will undoubtedly be appreciated by the Dungeons & Dragons Online community.

The full Dungeons & Dragons Online patch notes can be found in the Full Article!

Blizzard Entertainment is known for having themed-areas around Azeroth in World of Warcraft (WoW). Probably the most common and obvious among these so-called areas is the Un'Goro Crater, with its Mario and Luigi clones Muigin and Larion. If you dig enough, and keen enough, you will also find references to Pulp Fiction, Xanadu, and even "The Silence of the Lambs".

Now, for The Burning Crusade, it seems like Blizzard was able to slip in another one with nobody noticing it. This concerns the hotly contested Hellfire Peninsula, non-playable character (NPC) Marshal Isildor, and the war in Iraq. The three don't have something in common at first glance but if you speak to the quest giver, you will receive this in-game text message:WoW's Marshal Isildor text reference to Iraq - Image 1

Do you think that demons will play fair? These beasts are more savage than orcs and more cunning than the undead. How many more soldiers need to die before we start paying attention out there?

Some players argue that Hellfire Peninsula can be accessed through a portal, basically implying that it's a new world altogether. Before the portal became operational, the place has been the historic battleground between Khadgar's Alliance and Ner'zhul's Horde. This, on the other hand, can be construed as the warring Islamic factions of Shi'a and Sunni.

We know that most of you have visited Hellfire Peninsula and even played most of its instances. With the WoW-Iraq connection in mind, we're sure you will be able to find more similarities. If all these turn out to be true, we don't believe that Blizzard will go on record and admit the correlation. After all, it is still a very sensitive topic up to now.

ISS waltzing with luna

What you are looking at here is an actual shot of the International Space Station rapidly traversing before the lunar disk. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. The Earth's night sky was bathed with light from an almost full perigee Moon last October 6th. Taking advantage of this, observers from a site just outside of Tracy, California in the United States took a shot of this scene using six video frames.

The ISS, which merely looks like but a small bug on the moon's windshield, was about 260 miles away from the telescope/video camera setup. In the foreground of the picture is Tycho, the bright lunar ray crater. Tycho lies about a thousand times more distant than the ISS to the Earth.

Yeah, it sure makes us wish we were there, don't it?

Lunar

Gamers who like driving sims but are tired of all the same old race tracks - or are looking for new frontiers - will be interested in this one. NASA's new educational PC game, Lunar Racing Championship, is a virtual reality simulator offering players a chance to drive around the surface of the moon.

Using a 3D map created from the 1998 Clementine Mission, LRC will allow players to visit the site of the Apollo 11 Lander or the  Tycho crater - or most anywhere else on the Lunar surface. Players wear goggles that allow for stereo vision, and the player's movement is tracked using motion sensors.

The game features a high degree of realism, we are told.  Dan Rasky of NASA's Ames Research Center says that NASA engineers will even be using  it order to plan missions and solve design problems. The same "virtual" thrusters that  give the game's cyber- buggies a little extra high-speed traction may very well find their on onto the real thing, he says. Lunar Racing Championship is scheduled to be released sometime in October.
