Homebrew developer califrag dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forum and released an update to the very useful application skyPSP Webcam Suite. As its name implies, the program is a pair of applications which transform your PSP into a mobile webcam studio. One of the major changes to skyPSP Webcam Suite is that the five seconds timeout between connection states has been increased to 10 seconds. The coder then enumerated and explained the other changes:

The last time we saw califrag's eyePSP, it was a video of the project's demo. We've got another update on the said project, with a video and more control methods.
In case you missed the first report, eyePSP is an application that helps your Sony PlayStation Portable detect a laser pointer's movements via a camera. The dev is still away hacking at the project and left us with a video of the current improvements. According to califrag's post at the QJ Forums, four different control methods for "simple sprite movement" were added:

PlayStation Portable homebrew developer califrag seems to have something good going on; after skyPSP which can turn your PSP into an actual webcam, comes an app that lets your handheld recognize a laser pointer's movements. The concept is still fresh, but just imagine what eyePSP can do in the near future.
With the help of a Chotto Shot or GoCam, eyePSP can read movements of a projected laser pointer and allow the PSP screen to display what's going on. There's only a demo as of now, but it would be pretty cool to have games controlled by the laser's movements. You can find eyePSP in action by watching the video below, or try it out yourself by grabbing the demo. Might as well visit the thread where califrag made the release, because discussions of eyePSP's future can be found there. Download: eyePSP demo |

PlayStation Portable homebrew developer califrag has informed us that the server application for the skyPSP Webcam Suite has recently been released on our PSP Development Forums. According to califrag, the server application essentially turns users' PSPs into actual webcam servers. It uses a GoCam! or ChottoShot to upload images via FTP to a specific destination. The images can then be viewed online, just like a real webcam. Speaking of the GoCam! and ChottoShot accessories, users don't actually need either of these to run the client application which we covered in a previous post. For the server version however, either of the two accessories are required. For more information, please click on the Visit link below. Califrag has released the first version of skyPSP. This application is essentially a Webcam Client and Server for the PSP. The developer has stated that this is a work in progress, and as of this version, the webcam server has not yet been fully implemented. Regardless, it's worth a look because this homebrew has a lot of potential. If you plan on using this program, you will need to have either the ChottoShot or GoCam and have an FTP Server already set-up. Another thing you should know is that the entire program was written in C and does not use the HTML or the PSP browser in any way. Be advised that if you're trying to access a non-functioning webcam or one posting an image larger that 640x480, then the program will crash. So download it and try it out. The developer didn't include any documentation with the program, so here are the controls of the application:

For a fresh start this fall, califrag has updated warPSP^xmb Alpha to Beta and has released the homebrew app for those who have been following his WarXing prx.warPSP^xmb Beta's biggest update is that it now comes in two flavors: the xmb extension for the old flashing approach to warPSP^xmb, and a separate standalone Eboot version for those still fearful of flashing their Sony PSPs. The PSP coder also improved warPSP^xmb to sport an enhanced on-screen user interface, coupled with respective functionality. GPS functions were also integrated in this release, while certain bugs have been dealt with in the xmb extension version. Those willing to use the xmb extension version must be made aware that this version still has some issues, even if it now comes in an easy installer version. califrag warned users of these issues: There are some known bugs with the prx file and there could possibly be bugs in the installer or the pbp standalone. These are risks that you accept by downloading and running these programs on your PSP Surely, we cannot stress this enough. Go through the Readme folks, or stop by at the release thread for inquiries. Thanks to Schnappy for the tip! PSP coder califrag dropped by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce a quick update for the warPSP^xmb Alpha prx plugin. In case you're wondering what this application does, it's a wireless hotspot scanner that displays its results on your PSP's XMB browser. This latest bug fix update allows Network functions: the browser and RSS should function properly after users punch in L+R+SELECT to exit prx. The author reports that the PSP will no longer freeze. That's all to report for the moment, although readers are also advised to visit califrag's thread over at the QJ.Net Forums for other information, such as usage details, and other future (possible) updates. Enjoy the download! Download: warPSP^xmb Alpha prx plugin (May 10, 2007) Visit: QJ's PSP Development Forum |

califrag passed by our forums recently to announce that there is an update for warPSP^xmb Alpha. For those of you unfamiliar with the said plugin application, it basically serves as a wireless hotspot scanner for your PSP.
So what's new with the update? califrag informs that now, all access point names are displayed correctly. Also, instead of displaying security as X (Protected) or O (unprotected), the access point is now red if protected and white if unprotected. califrag says that he got this idea from a suggestion made by Loonix. Below is a youtube video of the application in action. Plans for the future of this application includes GPS integration, plans to an Auto-Connect feature, wherein the first unprotected access point with the highest signal strength will be automatically added to network configuration, and Data Logging. For more information on the application, feel free to visit the forum thread. califrag also listed there several known bugs and issues, and the reasons and problems behind them. To download the update, you can click on the download link below. For installation instructions, you can head to the Forum Thread, be sure to follow califrag's instructions, as installation involves flashing your PSP. Keep the updates coming califrag, great work! Califrag has released warPSP^xmb Alpha, a plugin application that serves as a wireless hotspot scanner for your PSP. Califrag notes that this is a renamable plugin that can be launched through the Network Update, Certificate Utility, or Remote Play icons. In any case, Califrag does mention some bugs with the app so far, so you'd best be warned by reading below:
Califrag is also looking for feedback on developing this application from users and programmers alike, so you may want to check our forums for his poll regarding the application. In the meantime, we'll also be providing the directions for using the application here. If you're not afraid of flashing your PSP, give it a try and see how it works for you. Controls:
