Electricity found to form water Scientists from the Graz University of Technology in Austria have found that exposing water to direct current (DC) electrical fields causes it to form a bridge. This phenomenon was discovered as the researchers were exploring the Hydrogen dominated molecular structure of H20.

The group further pursued this experiment and were amazed that the water could cross two beakers up to a distance of 25 nanometers. However, if the water's temperature rose above 60 degrees centigrade or the beakers were pulled further apart, the bridge broke.

One of the researchers on the team Elmar Fuchs said that the formation of these conduits could be explained by the molecular composition of water. Their current theory is that the bridge initially forms due to the electrostatic charges on the water's surface. As the electrical charge spreads through the liquid, the molecules start arranging themselves into a stable microstructure allowing the bridge to retain its shape and apparent rigidity.

While this theory has to be further tested, current comparisons between water found at the beaker's edges and center of the water bridge seem to support it. The research team is now turning their attention to how the said ordered microstructures explain density changes in the water bridge.

These new findings is a fine example of how much we have yet to discover about water. It's great that some have decided to further explore this liquid considering it covers roughly 70% of our planet's surface and is considered a necessity for any carbon based life-form to survive.

Identical Triplets - Image 1A British woman recently gave birth to triplets in Austria. What's makes it so special? They're identical triplets, an occurrence that only happens once in every 200 million births.

There are two kinds of twins (and a third kind, but it's not so clear yet): identical and fraternal. What happens with identical twins is that when they were conceived their fertilized egg split in two and matured separately, giving them more or less identical genes. Fraternal twins are two egg cells conceived separately.

Usually triplets are a result of either three separate eggs conceived separately or of two eggs where one split to become identical twins. Amazing enough as it is, identical triplets is the result of a fertilized egg splitting in two, and one of the halves splitting again; all three parts then grow independently.

Twins occur once in every 80 pregnancies, triplets once in every 6,400, and identical triplets occur once in 200 million. That's pretty heavy. The siblings in the happy trio were named Zoe, Kim, and Amy, delivered a few weeks premature but without any complications. If they grow up to be gamers they might have a hard time learning how to share the controller.
