Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for Sony PSP is just around the corner, and it wouldn't hurt to hype things up a bit by giving you guys a refresher on the extra characters that can be unlocked in-game. First off, there's Cloud of Final Fantasy VII fame. So how did he manage to stumble out of his high-tech dimension and into medieval Ivalice? It just so happens that he got sucked from his dimension, and the impact of interdimensional travel affected the poor guy so much that he's always plagued with headaches and keeps on mumbling strange words, like "Sephiroth". Another is Balthier, that dashing sky pirate from Final Fantasy XII. He also hails from Ivalice, and flies around in his airship (known as the Strahl) stealing treasure from the greedy and giving it to the poor. Balthier is especially useful in acquiring supplies, if you get our drift. Want to make sure that you get him in-game? Check this link to find out how to unlock him. Finally, there's Luso, a hunter who also plays a part in Final Fantasy A2: Sealed Grimoire for the DS. He will serve as the group's scribe, recording the adventures that they go through each day. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions will hit store shelves on October 5, but for us Final Fantasy nuts, the wait couldn't be much longer. |

Square Enix has once again released more images of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings to Japanese gaming mag Famitsu. Thanks to Jeux France, we've got a few scans of the said images below. Check 'em out.
In Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Vaan
finally has his own airship. He travels around seeking adventure as a
sky pirate with Penelo by his side. There hasn't been a lot of details
released about how battles will go in this game, but you can check out this battle video for a look. If you're more in the mood for moving pictures, check out this video of the airships in Revenant Wings. Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings flies onto the DS and DS Lite in Japan on April 26. |

One of the many enjoyable nods to franchise history in Final Fantasy XII is the presence of airships. In stark contrast to previous incarnations of FF, what's enjoyable about the said iteration is that your party isn't the sole group of people benefiting from the presence of the said mode of transportation.
In Ivalice, almost anyone who can afford it has airships. The most feared, of course, are the ones made by (guess who) Cidolfus, er, Cid, for the Archadian army. Airships police the skies and ensure military dominance of certain regions. If you don't want to get shot down by the cannons of the Shiva, the Ifrit, or the Alexander - stay on foot, be good boys and girls, and always remember that they're way up there looking down on you. In Ivalice, instead of becoming the stole "in-world excuse" that the game developers have of giving the players the means to quickly backtrack across the many areas of the game world – which is what all the airships in the past FFs were, really – the "in-world" existence of airships was the excuse for you to travel on foot across a certain area, in a certain amount of time. Well, now that the world's peaceful again, and now that Vaan's graduated to becoming a Sky Pirate, Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is set to return the concept of the airship to what it used to be – a tool that helps increase the illusion of player freedom. The clip below contains several teasers on how airships are supposed to affect gameplay. Enjoy! |

What do we know about the game so far? Storyline-wise we know that the game picks up from where FFXII ends, and will feature Vaan (now with his very own airship), Panelo, and the legendary floating continent Puruvama. What about gameplay? Well, other than that odd trailer floating around in YouTube, and that Dagenki DS Style interview with the developers of the game that reveals that it would feature staple summons and a DS version of the Gambit system, not much gameplay-wise.
Moreover, combat looks a bit disorganized. While we know that Gambits are implemented, we're not entirely sure if the 'free-motion' feature of FFXII is in the DS game. Well, given that huge mess in that combat screenshot, 'free-motion' is a possibility, and if that Dagenki interview is to be believed, then combat should have healthy doses of stylus use. It could either have a max of four people in a party, or it may still be three plus one guest. Well, we can't really say anything more conclusive, given this one screen, but don't worry, we'll keep you guys updated when more word leaks! |

Seiken Densetsu fans now have a lot to look forward to as another title from the Mana universe makes its way to the DS. Heroes of Mana for the Nintendo DS is a project that Square Enix is currently working on, alongside the development studio Brownie Brown. The game trailer has been shown over at the Square Enix booth at the recent Tokyo Game Show. Featuring the "intelligent and diplomatic youth from Pedan" Roger, our main character is known to pilot a military airship that can be used to deploy monsters, which you yourself can create by collecting the necessary ingredients. However, conflicts arise whenever you encounter someone else who is also collecting the same materials for their own menagerie. As far as the trailer goes, the game also possesses a moving score which we're looking forward to hearing more of. However, there is still no word regarding this game's release date. Falling into the RTSRPG genre that other titles such as Disgaea and Makai Kingdom belong to, this installment to the Seiken Densetsu series promises to be yet another addictive treat. |

The first details on Heroes of Mana have been revealed. The main character's name will be Roger who is described as an intelligent and diplomatic youth from Pedan, a land in the world in Heroes of Mana. Roger is the pilot of a military airship which can be used to send out monsters. Collecting certain materials allow you to create monsters. Your enemies in the game are collecting these materials and making their own monsters which of course leads to the inevitable conflicts you'll find in the game. Heroes of Mana seems to be going the "RTSRPG" route which seems to be an evolution from the "SPRGs" that evolved from the "RPGs". Interesting how genres are starting to blend together now, isn't it? |

Bags of hot air (well, bags of lighter-than-air gas, to be exact) may one day provide a cost-effective alternative (or complement) to coverage-limited terrestrial cell sites and out-of-this-world satellites with an out-of-this-world price tag. A former NASA engineer and an Arizona-based firm are working on prototypes of airships designed to provide cellular service to large coverage areas, and to remote areas out of reach from traditional cell sites. Bob Jones' prototype for what he calls the Stratellite weighs in at 750 pounds, has five separate helium lift cells contained within a rigid carbon composite airframe, cost about $3 million to build, and bears little resemblance to the Goodyear blimp (the Stratellite has a broad, tapered nose like a shark's head). But the Stratellite is designed not as a leisurely-paced tourist vehicle, or as an ad-in-the-sky, but to go much higher, thirteen miles above ground, and for longer, up to eighteen months at a time. At that height, Jones believes the Stratellite can provide cell service to an area the size of Texas. The prototype's scheduled for test flights beginning later this month at Palmdale. Space Data's vision for a similar service is based off the more familiar - and proven - weather balloon, carrying to the stratosphere not barometers and thermometers but the equipment to receive, boost, and transmit cell phone signals. Unlike the Stratellite, the 125 foot-long Sanswire 2 targets areas too remote from cellular service, or where cell signals cannot reach them due to terrain features. They've got plans to float a test "tech-demo" balloon over a remote part of North Dakota to demonstrate the tech and the service, and company is already in negotiations with several unidentified cell service providers. If all goes well, they expect to float their first operational and commercial gas bag as early as next year, over western Texas. After being relegated to the attic of aviation history (especially after great strides in the development of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, and the memory of the Hindenburg and other similar airship disasters), airships are making a comeback to the skies of the 21st century. Besides being used as communications platforms - an idea that was toyed with by dot-com companies back before the bubble burst - there are plans to use them for heavy freight too bulky or too heavy for their heavier-than-air cousins, and even a return to passenger service (though as a "cruise ship" service rather than high-speed air passenger transport). |

Before the official Japan-release of Final Fantasy III on August 24 (which also happens to be the same date when the International Astronomical Union will vote on the 12-Planet structure!), we're hooking you up with something special today! Now, we here at QJ know just how much you guys are all too eager to see more trailers for this game! And so, without further ado... Click!
Oh, yes! The world map! And the clips in the video don't just show you the terrain! No, no, no... The highlights of the video are the modes of travel you can acquire and choose from during the course of the game! Aside from walking around to get from Point A to Point B, you got some of your more traditional ways to travel. You got your rowboats, and airships, and chocobos, oh my! You got sailships, and zeppelins and, oh oh oh!, a submarine that transforms into a jet! One minute, you're torpedo-ing along underwater with fishies, the next thing you know, you're up in the clouds with the birdies! Neat! |

The first game in the Untold Legends franchise, Brotherhood of the Blade debuted as a PSP launch title and gave gamers their very first taste of action RPG combat on Sony's handheld wonder. Earlier this year, the game was followed by a sequel titled The Warriors Code, which sought to improve on its predecessor in just about every way possible. With new combos, a stronger, more engaging storyline, sharper graphics and a more unique art style, Warriors Code did just that. Now Sony Online Entertainment are bringing the Untold Legends universe to Sony's brand new PlayStation 3, we sat down with Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom Senior Designer John Troy, and designer Amanda Flock to chat about their upcoming PS3 launch title, here's what they had to say.
