If you're a denizen of one of the more popular MMOs out there like World of Warcraft or Tabula Rasa, chances are you've visited their respective wikis for information. Useful tomes aren't they? This subject was actually a point of interest at this year's SXSW Interactive, where notable members of the gaming community talked about the symbiotic relationship between gamers and wikis. Read about it in the full article. |

If you thought you knew everything about Blizzard, think again. Methinks someone will have to update the company's Wikipedia page soon, for while Blizzard Entertainment's top dogs took to the stage at DICE 08, they revealed the company's history in a segment called "From Developer to Worldwide Publisher." And with the reminiscing came a little eye-opener: a list of games they've cancelled over the 17 years of their existence. |

In the history of Famitsu's review scores, only six games (according to Wikipedia) have ever gotten a perfect 40/40 from their review team. Well, Wii owners should have their worlds thoroughly rocked today, as Famitsu's announced their seventh perfect score, and it's for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Learn more about this intriguing development after the jump! |

It looks like somebody from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's (SCEE) been taking lessons from Electronic Arts. The Wikipedia site reports that someone's been editing their entry for Bungie's Halo game series by adding some additional words. Fighting words it seems, if you happen to be a big fan of Halo 3 for the Xbox 360. The controversial add-on said: "Although it won't look any better than Halo 2." As the page was mainly for factual details on the game, that subjective statement did stick out like a sore thumb.
Here's a screenshot of the said edits - the red text to the right indicates the new additions (click to enlarge): What makes the news all the more interesting is that WikiScanner traced the editor's IP address - 217.18.23.2 - to SCEE's Liverpool (UK) studio. Black propaganda from Sony to stifle Halo 3's upcoming launch this September 25? Unlikely - Wikipedia indicates that the edit was done way back in April. What we're looking at is probably someone at the SCEE office having a bit of fun...at the title's expense. So, why did it take so long to detect this months-old tweak? WikiScanner was introduced to Wikipedia on August 14, 2007 - only a little more than two weeks ago. Check back in case WikiScanner picks up more of these unsolicited edits to the site. |

AQ Interactive has launched the official website for Anato wo Yurusanai, its upcoming sound novel game for the Sony PlayStation Portable handheld gaming system.Since our last post on this title got a few "What's a sound novel?" comments, here's a short backgrounder. According to Wikipedia, the term "Sound Novel" is a trademark of Chunsoft for use in their novel games like Otogirisou and Kamaitachi no Yoru. Sound novels and visual novels are essentially the same thing. The latter is just the term used by non-Chunsoft developers. Anyway, back to the game. The story revolves around a woman called Takeuchi Ririko who works at her father's private investigation firm. Things take a turn for the worse when Ririko's husband leaves her and her father mysteriously disappears. It's now up to Ririko to look for her father while she takes care of his P.I. firm at the same time. The website doesn't have a lot of content at the moment, but there is a brief guide there on how the game can be played. You can also check out a few screenshots of the game there. Those interested can take a look at the official Anato wo Yurusanai website by clicking on the Read link below. The game goes on sale in Japan on November 15. |

There was quite a buzz when some sources used the Wikipedia Scanner created by a college graduate to track users that try to modify Wikipedia entries. One worth taking note of was Electronic Arts' page which was supposedly edited more than once by an employee from EA. Turns out the stories were true, and EA even talked to GamesIndustry.biz about it. An EA spokesperson explained that the company sometimes updates websites like Wikipedia to "ensure accuracy of their own corporate information." Reasons on why they were attempts to cover the tracks of EA founder Trip Hawkins - something that the Wikipedia community will not allow in some conditions - and to change a few lines about lawsuits charged against EA were still left in the dark. However, the spokesperson did state, "EA has sent a correction to Yahoo Finance when they had misspelled the name of an EA executive." Trip Hawkins, who was almost wiped off from the pages of Wikipedia for reasons unknown, is currently on vacation and has yet to give his input on the matter. |
