Apparently, people who own multiple consoles have been having a lot of fun by mixing and matching the features of each unit, and the results, you have to admit, are pretty darn cool.It all started with the Mii figure of Gears of War star, Marcus Fenix. Now, using the face-mapping features of Rainbow Six: Vegas, we have people's Mii faces showing up (I bet the makers never saw THAT coming), as shown in this image which was taken by one of the guys from Kotaku. Of course, some people have pointed out that the head size is too big and may just be the perfect target for a sniper, and that the "glow in the dark" look won't help when taking cover (though some have suggested that scanning a darker image may do the trick), but we don't really think that all this is going to stop the imminent flood of face-mapping experiments that are sure to follow. As early as now, there have already been ideas floating around which include face-mapping pets, newspaper mugshots, celebrity Miis, and various household objects. So don't be surprised if one day, while playing Rainbow Six, you turn around to find yourself face to face with... I dunno... some anime character Mii? Gandhi Mii? |

Nintendo has completely cast its magic over everyone ever since the Wii was released a mere few weeks ago. One of the best things about the Wii is that people seem to want it not just because of the games that you can play on it, but also for the other things that you can do with it, even without a game disk in the drive. Besides the weather and news channels, there's also the message boards. Also, you can organize and view your photos and movie clips, then you can make a puzzle out of the said photos, and then there's that little feature which seems to just draw everybody into it: Mii. Everyone is compelled to sit down for a good hour or two, and start making that perfect avatar of yourself or of your favorite celebrity, or of your friends and family, or officemates, or that guy who owns the shop down the street... And nobody is safe from this compulsion, not even the IGN staff, and apparently, not even Jesus or Borat. More Miis after the Jump! |

Remember ages ago (it's been that long?) when Wii had been registering trademarks left and right? Among those trademarks include WiiKids, WiiCulture, WWWii, and a whole slew of other things that probably won't even see the light of day. But rest assured, Nintendo's got them reserved as trademarks already. From these trademarks, we can see the track that Nintendo is taking in expanding their console. We somehow get some feel of what their future plans would be. One of those trademarks is !!M (that's "Wii" inverted 180 degrees). Zi Corporation has just announced that they would be working with Nintendo to bring their predictive text input software, eZiText, into the Wii. Milos Djokovic, President and CEO of Zi Corporation said that "By embedding eZiText in Wii, Nintendo is empowering its customer with a more user friendly method for text input." To continue: This announcement heralds the future use of eZiText outside of conventional mobile usage. The global gaming industry has become a worldwide phenomenon and is becoming an important new avenue for the distribution of our products. As such, we will continue to progressively pursue new gaming customers. Now whether this project will end up as the supposed !!M, we're still not sure if what they're trying to aim at is an SMS Messaging service or an Instant Messaging service. Either way, expect a lot of communication between Wiis, Wiimotes, and Miis in the future. |

Nintendo is apparently planning on creating its very own Wii online community. The guys over at Nintendo are probably thinking that the next-gen console wars should be won in all factors-- including the online community segment of the showdown. Microsoft already has an established online setup with the Xbox Live and the PS3 is busy prepping their very own with the PS3 Hub. We earlier reported on how the Nintendo DS and Wii connectivity will come about. The Nintendo DS recently received an upgrade through the availability of Opera DS, a popular web browser built specifically for the DS handheld; along with this, the Nintendo Wii will feature an Opera browser. In fact, it was reported that Nintendo has registered several trademarks with obvious names that point to online communities such as WiiCulture, WiiCommunication and the two most obvious ones, WWWii and WiiOnline. Although most of these are still backfence talks, the idea of a Wii online community is appealing - no wonder, the rumor has been going on for quite some time now. How about you? What's your take in all these? What do you think of the "Wii Online Community"? What name would you give it? Tell us through your comments. |

Nintendo Japan has just registered three new trademarks relating to the Wii - WiiPointer, WiiCulture, and !!M. While the first two patents are pretty straightforward and may lead to quite obvious inferences, the third one will be a bit hard to speculate on. WiiPointer may refer to the currently known Wiimote. Putting the iPod culture in mind, where everything that refers to the ubiquitous Apple MP3 player is prefixed with the letter "i", WiiCulture may serve as a label for all things Wii. Now the name of the third one is pretty interesting in itself. In case you haven't noticed, !!M is Wii upside-down. Now what could this pertain to? With talks of an instant messaging service for the Wii, dare we speculate !!M to be the name for the rumored service? Hmm... Since all three names are now registered by Nintendo, rest assured we'll hear more about WiiPointer, WiiCulture, and !!M in the coming days (or months but hopefully not years). Soon as QJ hears more, we'll let you know. |
