It is said that two of the most creative words in the English language
are "what if." That seems to be behind Electronic Arts' thinking, as it
seems the company is not quite letting go of the alternate history
lineup of the Command and Conquer series of games with the recent announcement of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. We guarantee you'll be seeing red after the jump. |

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
(PC and Xbox360) has something the rest of its predecessors have - real
life actors in cutscenes. Come to think about it, it's what makes this
RTS game so immersive since these characters call you Commander.
Electronic Arts (EA) has continued what Westwood Studios started, and this time it's bigger. We've got the behind the scenes look at the actors who play the important characters of Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars who fans would be able to associate with the different factions. We also see the making of the actors' costumes and the cutscenes themselves. The media (the reporters of various news flashes and news anchors), Brotherhood of Nod's Kane and General Qatar, GDI's General Jack Granger and Director Redmond Boyle are featured in the videos. There are four videos so we'll quit the babble. The Xbox360 version of Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars will be available in North America and Europe in a couple of days (May 10 and 11, respectively). For now, enjoy the videos. More videos right after the jump! |

Recently we posted a bit of news regarding the Electronic Arts-Steven Spielberg collaboration for the Nintendo Wii. Both parties still won't reveal any game details, but GameDaily did manage to get a few new bits of info from EALA's Vice President and General Manager , Neil Young. In our last post on this subject we mentioned some background details on the first of the three titles EA's cooking up with Spielberg. While the third title remains a mystery, Young revealed to GameDaily that the second title is "really not in [the Doug Church-produced game's] vein, and Lou Castle is producing that game." Castle is one of the co-founders of Westwood Studios and is one of those responsible for the Command & Conquer series. It looks like the games are coming along nicely, too. Young said that the relationship between EA and Spielberg is "a very close collaborative relationship" and that "it's really wonderful spending time with him." We'll be keeping you guys posted as soon as more details emerge. |

Prepare to jump hoops and dehydrate yet again, Crysis and Command & Conquer fans, because we've got a present for 'ya. Media Feet Underground says that Electronic Arts is bringing the Crysis game engine CryEngine 2 into Electronic Arts Los Angeles (EALA) studios - current home to the Command & Conquer franchise (and part of the original Westwood Studios development team). Let's do the math, shall we? (An FPS engine that makes jaws drop and eyes explode) + (one of the seminal real-time strategy titles in gaming) = Command & Conquer: Renegade 2? For those unfamiliar with the first Renegade (and if you know your C&C, how could you?), it was an FPS set in the C&C Tiberian universe where you play the role of the ever-popular Global Defense Initiative (GDI) Commando, the blow-crap-first-ask-NO-questions Nick "Havoc" Parker. Renegade was well known for FPS battles that played out a bit like C&C RTS battles, with base structures to defend and produce units and weapons, tanks and other vehicles to rush and bombard with, and so forth. On the one hand, it's not as big a hit as, say, Half-Life. On the other hand, it still holds a special place in the hearts of C&C players. Its 3D engine became the basis for the SAGE engine used in Generals, Battle for Middle Earth, and now C&C3: Tiberium Wars. Fans of the game have made mods based on the Red Alert continuity. And now... Crytek's Crysis engine powering an EALA title? While Westwood Studios had once decided not to go with a Renegade sequel, EALA might have different ideas - hey, we've called EA stubborn on more thanone occasion. And don't forget Crytek's trying to make CryEngine 2 as moddable as possible - cripes, the madness in the C&C fan and mod community if EALA decides to make a Renegade sequel with CryEngine 2. Again, all speculation. In the gaming world, 2 + 2 sometimes equals "should've taken a left at Albuquerque" when it comes to rumors. But I, for one, would be quite interested in either a Renegade sequel, or at least another FPS set in the C&C universe (playing as Tanya Adams, as portrayed by the lovely Kari Wuhrer, perhaps?). |

This year, RTS fans have two major games coming their way. The first is the successor to the original Command & Conquer universe - Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars by Electronic Arts. And the second is the spiritual successor to the underdog sandbox RTS Total Annihilation, rechristened by THQ as Supreme Commander. The difference between the two games is huge. Their fan base is even more humongous. And their opinions? Well, lately, there's been a flurry of RTS fan huffs and puffs, and not surprisingly, they revolve around these two particular games. There should be a third contender, but right now it's just rumored. The ish? Which game takes the cake and which one kicks the bucket? Being a fan of both games, I don't see why people have to choose between the two. Both games are RTS titans by right because of their rich history in the game industry and their RTS feature ensemble. Still believe you have to choose? Then dive into a multi-part, detailed look into the two games, from a fan's point of view. Click on Full Article to view the first part of the comparison between the two stellar RTS icons. |

Command and Conquer: Tiberium Wars by Electronic Arts is the long-awaited sequel to the 1999 RTS Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun by Westwood Studios. The new game is set during the Third Tiberium War, and Nod is now a superpower. The GDI have been on the retreat, but the time has come to make one last desperate push to save the world [insert dramatic music here]. Ah, the stuff of RTS drama! And it turns out there's a third side in the battle. Aliens are joining the fray. Who are these "Visitors"? What are they doing? What's their connection to the Tiberium? If you're like us, you've been doing happy dances in anticipation of this game. It should be out soon: March 28 of this year (knocks on wood to not jinx it). So get your PC or Xbox 360 ready! |
