Recently, John Riccitiello stepped down from his position as CEO of VG Holdings to become the CEO of Electronic Arts, a post he left  in 2004 to co-found Elevation Partners, responsible for the merger of BioWare/Pandemic Studios. Although Riccitiello's new appointment will take place this coming April 2, analysts are already saying that Riccitiello's appointment is a good thing for Electronic Arts.John Riccitiello - Image 1

In a note to investors, Lazard Capital Markets said that,

Overall, we view the appointment as a positive given Mr. Riccitiello’s tenure in the video game business, familiarity with Electronic Arts, and prior CEO-level experience. While it is too early to judge what impact there will be on the company (and the executive ranks) as a result of the appointment, we believe Mr. Riccitiello is well respected within the company and the industry.

Electronic Arts continues to be profitable for investors, and a giant in the gaming industry.

Bioware/Pandemic - Image 1Greg Richardson has big shoes to fill as he takes the CEO post of VG Holdings. VG Holdings is the operating company of the merged giant dev, BioWare/Pandemic. John Riccitiello has stepped down from the post and has returned as the CEO of Electronic Arts.

The BioWare (Mass Effect)/Pandemic (Mercenaries 2) merger was made possible by Elevation Partners (Riccitiello being a co-founder). Richardson has been working as a senior exec since the merge and according to Roger McNamee is "natural choice to work with the BioWare/Pandemic executives as they come to create award-winning titles and expand their talent base."

Well, the gaming industry's top guns get shuffled and the world will keep on turning. Let's hope that Bioware/Pandemic's vision comes true - and more great titles for us.
