Squirm - Image 1Do you guys remember Squirm from Commodore 16? If you do, then it's time to get reacquainted with it, or if it's your first time to encounter it, it's time for you to get introduced. What we have here is a remake of the said classic in DS homebrew style by developer Zilog.

Screenshot of Okiwi: Alpha release - Image 1 After almost a year since we first covered it, the homebrew Okiwi for the Nintendo DS which was being developed by Pedro J. Estebanez has finally been released in its Alpha form. Though it's expected that some of the functions haven't been fully implemented yet, Estebanvez has still done a spot-on job with this free web browser.

Before you install the program, you have to remember that it uses the Dynamically Linked Design Interface (DLDI). The download we have is patched for SuperCard Lite, so if the app isn't compatible with your hardware, then you can still find an appropriate patch for your card.

To install the program, simply unzip the file and move the unzipped "Okiwi" folder into the root directory, and you're done. The file can be unzipped directly into the root of the Flashcard if you choose to do so.

Also, inside the "Okiwi" folder, you will find another folder named "fonts" which includes three true type fonts (serif, sanserif, and monotype). In addition, there are also fonts with pre-rendered sizes (we assume this is to keep memory usage low). The extension name for these files are .okf which stand for Okiwi Font. Meanwhile, the rest of the files contain tables which are needed to associate character bitmaps with their respective Unicode. The extension name fore these files is .okm which stands for Okiwi Map.

It is important to note that if any of these files are deleted, the software should generate them again from the TrueType fonts.

When it comes to navigation, the only way to navigate within documents being viewed via Okiwi is by using the stylus. There are also only 2 working buttons for this release. The first button allows the user to enter a URL, and the second button which allows to set the zoom level.

Please remember that this an Alpha release and it may be unstable. If you don't want to risk it, you can wait for some of the early adopters to try it and post their comments on how it runs. You can download the application via the download link below.

  • The main menu of CF, SD, Mini SD, Micro SD versions have been changed as SuperCard Rumble series.

black DS LiteJust a few days back, we told you guys about this homebrew app for the DS Lite called LoveLite which lets you adjust the brightness settings of your handhelds easily, without having to tweak anything in your firmware.

Now, assuming you guys tried out the app's v1.3 beta, you've probably noticed some glitches here, a bug there, and whatnot, so to fix this, Lick just released v1.4 beta to take care of those woes.

But before we get into that, make sure you read Lick's important notes about his app here. You wouldn't want to brick your handheld now, would you?

That said, here's the changelog for 1.4:
  • FIXED Supercard Lite support. (See libcartreset 0.72)
  • REMOVED the annoying purposeless green flash when resetting. (The red one is still in there.)
Lick included the source.zip file but he says that this is for educational purposes only, and that if you wanna modify some stuff in the app, make sure you contact him first. Also, he's asking for your feedback on whatever bugs or glitches you might encounter so that he can fix them in his next releases.

Download: [LoveLite 1.4 beta]

Yee's Review

Bernie Yee (Yee) stopped by our forums to inform us of his recently published review for the EZ4Lite Deluxe / Compact. The EZ4Lite was the first flashcart adapter for the Nintendo DS Lite. The EZ team have gone back to their product and redesigned it in an aspect, improving several flaws that were not taken care of for the first release. Some of the pluses of this flashcart include its cheap price, and great GBA support. However, it doesn't quite match up to the M3 Lite, but you are paying a lot less. So if price is an issue, this adapter might just be perfect for you! Read Yee's full review after the jump!

SC Lite PackageA couple of weeks ago, we gave you a sneak peek at the SuperCard Lite's features. Now we're going to have another look at it - from its packaging to software and hopefully to other things you might find interesting.

Maybe packaging doesn't mean much to other people. After all, you're after the product inside it, and not necessarily the box, plastic, or whatever it is encased in. However, one might find notable that the package features the SuperCard Lite in all its original size glory, so you won't be left wondering if it would fit snugly in your NDS or not.

Worried about the SuperCard Lite's durability? Well, you might be pleased to know that it is made from seemingly high-quality, hard, white plastic. It retains a chameleon-like quality when you place it in your DS Lite (primarily because of its color, and because it fits quite well in the NDS). However, it wasSC Lite reported that it's quite hard to remove from the NDS, but it seems to come out okay once you pull out the left corner a little.

The software is user-friendly, so new users won't have trouble getting acquainted with it. Its software is much like the previous models, so old users wouldn't have to worry about getting confused with a new software. However, make sure you have a no pass device in the DS gamecart slot (don't worry it's not that hard to find - most likely it's available in the store where you got your SuperCard Lite) so you could use your SuperCard Lite with DS games and homebrew.

Back in July, the Supercard team released the SuperCard Lite adapter, much to the delight of DS Lite owners who have been clamoring for such a device. It can be inserted into the DS Lite's GBA slot without any stick out. that's right, no more protruding adapters. While that's one good feature of the SuperCard Lite, you'd have to remember that it is also a speed demon, so you can run a DS game without any break when using high speed MicroSD Flash. As with other versions of SuperCard, it keeps all the functions of GBA.

You've seen how the SuperCard Lite looks like, but we don't think you'd be bold enough to actually pry a $50 SuperCard open just to see the innards. Well, a guy named DjoeN was curious enough to take the device apart to reveal the internals of the SuperCard Lite.

So, here they are for your viewing pleasure.
