Apple has formally announced that the App Store has now amassed an archive of over 100,000 applications from first and third-party developers, marking yet another milestone for the largest online app storefront in the world, give or take a few thousand iFodder. No, I'm totally kidding.

Homebrew coders Hellcat, RichDevX, and SilverSpring has released PS3 System File Editor, a simple tool to edit SFO files similar to Sony's SDK version but with less restrictions.

Coming straight from their own Twitter page, iPhone Dev Team members wizdaz and MediaPhone have recently announced a brand new application for the iPhone and iPod touch, called SmartScreen. According to the post, this app will allow users the ability to have multiple widgets displayed on the lock screen. More info after the jump.

Lots of things happened this week on the QJ.NET PSP blog. A new firmware update came out, we saw some intriguing new Sony tech that'll supposedly be made available to game devs, and we also got a little reassurance from Sony that they ain't forgetting about no UMDs, no sirree. Sony just keeps on pumping out some interesting technology for the PS3 console. 3D's already been dated for next year, and there's another piece of tech that allows for ridiculously high-resolution imaging not just on PS3 but on its handheld sibling as well. That's not all: they're also making SingStar's voice recognition tools available for other developers to play with.  Check out a couple of demo videos after the jump.

Sony's strategy for the PSP Go -- and to a certain extent, for older PSPs -- seems to target Apple's App Store directly. In the eyes of Sony Europe's head of developer relations, Zeno Colaco, they're not directly gunning for the App Store at all, but they will be doing things better by giving more support and visibility to developers.

Homebrew coder OlegO dropped by our forums to release his own version of 15 Puzzle, a popular sliding puzzle game that consist of 15 numbered squares in random order that are placed in box with one square empty.

There's a bit of a shortage in iPhone games in this week's edition of the iPhone Weekend Warrior, but fear not, the recap still has some goodies with which you could tinker with your iPhone. In case you missed it, that prematurely released Resident Evil 4 for iPhone turns out to be completely legit, and you can read about that and a lot more right here.

A new lobby browser has been added to the PC version of Left 4 Dead via an update released by Valve. The browser shows a list of optimal games that they can join, paring down the thousands of lobbies and games to make it easier to find the best ones available.

SDK 3.1 Beta 2 is not the only thing released today by Apple. iTunes 8.2.1 is already out and about, ready for you to enjoy.
