As Echochrome and flOw have indicated, a lot of PSN titles can make for a good translation into the PSP. Now, if you're wondering why there hasn't been any similar moves to bring PixelJunk Monsters over to the handheld, you may want to listen in on Dylan Cuthbert's explanation over in the full article. |

Back in the day, the difference between 8-bit and 16-bit machines can already be considered a jump from one generation to another. Today, some people will complain if a character model in a next-gen console doesn't have millions more pixels than the last game they touched. However, as most of us know, eye-bleeding graphics don't equate to high-quality games; developer Q-Games is aware of that, and decided to go back to 2D when things were simple.
Q-Games President and Executive Producer Dylan Cuthbert gathered a team just to create games reminiscent to the quirky style of ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 titles. Their latest entry for PSN is PixelJunk Racers, which Cuthbert is very proud of. On the Official PlayStation Blog, Cuthbert defined their upcoming game as "a quirky little slot car style racing game with lots of weird rules and conditions." Find out how weird exactly by watching the video below.

Those who own PlayStation 3 (PS3) units (that includes QJ!) has another thing to look forward to from the console's PlayStation Network (PSN). Gaming site IGN managed to grab a copy of the latest issue of magazine Famitsu and learned about Pixel Junk. What the heck is Pixel Junk? Well, nothing much is really known about this except that it is a game distribution service currently under development with Q-Games. This company, mind you should not be interchanged with Lumines-maker Q Entertainment. The former is located in Kyoto while the latter is stationed in Tokyo. Anyway, Famitsu described Pixel Junk as "the service that promises to feature unique, casual game experiences delivered to PS3 owners via the PlayStation Network." and that's about it. If you're kind of jittery as to the kind of quality this service has to offer, maybe we should instead talk about Q-Games. For starters, the company was formed by Dylan Cuthbert back in 2001. For your information, Cuthbert is the man responsible for Super Nintendo Entertainment System's (SNES) Star Fox and yet-to-be released Star Fox II. The wavy pattern that shows whenever you boot up your PS3 is another creation by Q-Games. So if you're asking if the company has enough experience and fire power, if you will, the answer is yes. We will update you as soon as new details become available. |

Q-Games' Star Fox Command for the DS marks the franchise's first game on a portable system and is set to be released on August 28 2006 in North America. In comparison to the standard Star Fox games, in which all gameplay is in "All Range Mode", Star Fox Command's gameplay is entirely stylus-driven and there is an extra tactical layer present in the missions. The game is import-friendly since only a degree of Katakana reading is required for menu navigation and the interface is very easy to learn. This video is a commercial in the US. It runs only in 00:15 seconds but it shows the grid map of the play area. The players get to steer the ship by moving the stylus around, whereas erratic movements of the stylus will execute barrel rolls and such. The game also allows multiplayer options (up to 8 players) so that means players can blow their friends out of the sky as they dogfight over a local wireless connection or take on up to four players from around the world on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. |
