This is seriously some well-made wood carving, and it's an actual digital camera too. Olympus will be introducing their prototype of this digital camera that is made from wood at the upcoming Photokina 2006 in Germany. The camera prototype was developed to show off their new digital compression process for wood materials. According to Olympus, the camera feels like natural wood, but is stronger than engineered plastics normally used for digital cameras. Of course, showing off some national pride, the company compressed Japanese cypress wood for their purposes. Aesthetically, the thing looks pretty sweet, and if you love the feel of wood grain rather than the cold touch of plastics or metal, this may just be something that can get you into the spirit of amateur photography. No word on protection from termites though, so we'll just have to see what the verdict is when Photokina 2006 comes around this coming September 26. |

What is Apple up to? For the first time, Apple will be heading to the Cologne, Germany to be a part of Photokina 2006, the photographic and imaging trade fair, this coming September. Not only will they show up, but they're also going to have a presentation during the trade fair. It's possible that they may be previewing or releasing a new version of their Aperture image editor. At the very least, they're certainly going to make their presence known. Photokina is scheduled to take place from September 26 to October 1, with Apple expected to have their presentation the day before the formal opening of the trade fair itself. New Information: QJ Reader Mike has brought us a little hint. According to him, "Photokina will be one of the largest product unveilings ever." If he really means more than one, then it really will be an interesting event. Keep posted here folks, and thank you Mike! |

Lots of big news for digital photographers coming up next month. The Photokina "World of Imaging" Trade Show is a digital photography show that happens every two years in Germany. This big event is held at the Cologne Exhibition Center. The last show (in 2004) had over 160,000 visitors and had over 1,500 exhibitors. The 2006 Photokina will start September 26 and end October 1. The Photokina is important partly because it is one of the year's mass unveiling of new photography products. Even though the event won't be until next month, the slow and steady build-up started this past July with the announcements of new products (like the snazzy Ergo-Tech bags from KATA). Here's a list of some of the products announced since July:
So to our European readers who manage to get in, send us an email or two, will you? |
