Because we just can't get enough of Sephiroth, here's a clip with him fighting Genesis (SOLDIER First Class) in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. We won't be able to follow the storyline as close as we'd like considering the dialogue is rendered in Japanese, but the gist is easy enough to follow.

A sparring match between Sephiroth and the two other SOLDIERs, Angeal and Genesis quickly turns into something more heated. Genesis goes after Sephiroth with a will, probably spurred on by a personal agenda. Meanwhile, the current owner of the Buster Sword, Angeal, tries to break it up.

But before we go too much into it and spoil it for you, here's the clip. Enjoy:

Plenty of thanks to Cheska for the tip!

We've already given you several reports on the things that were revealed during the Square Enix Party 2007. If you add up what's reported so far, you'll get a whole lot of words and descriptions on how things were. So to balance that out, here's some photos of the event, from the official site itself. Behold:

These are just images from the "Start" of the party, we're hoping that more will flood into the Interwebs in time. Why is this newsworthy? Well, if you're one of the biggest RPG companies in Japan, and you throw a party that half-doubles as a press conference for your up and coming game titles, people just have to report on that. And here we are, doing just that.

We'll update you when we get more pictures. Stay tuned. (If you can read Nihonggo, we suggest you head to the official site yourself via our "VIA" link below)

More photos after the Jump

Secret of Evangelion packshot - Image 1Another Japan-only anime-based game is getting ready for launch, and this one deals with Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. The game by Cyber Front is titled Secret of Evangelion Portable - a PSP port of the Secret of Evangelion adventure game previously released to the Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2).

Details are a bit sketchy at this point, though PSP Hyper reports that compared to its PS2 counterpart, the PSP version will carry additional CG event scenes, and extra quizzes and mini-games which enable players to unlock more Eva-related art. Translation - more Ayanami pics, Yay! Of course, there's also Asuka...

Japan's Rakuten online store dates the game for a June 28 release for this year, at an estimated price of ¥ 4,080 (US$ 34). Fellow anime/manga fans, set your calendars, and remember to bookmark Play-Asia for this upcoming release... Shanghai-ing a friend proficient in Nihongo might help too.

Tales of Destiny 2

The source for this one is in Japanese, and given the unwieldiness of online translation engines, if anything here seems a bit off, feel free to point it out in the comments.

Games Watch reports that the PSP Version of Tales of Destiny 2 will include some additional content. There will be three new characters, an illustration gallery, and a new anime opening movie (screens of which you may have already seen).

New Characters

Tales of Destiny 2 is set to hit retail in Japan on February 15, 2007. For more screens of the new opening movie, and the original Nihongo report, feel free to use our read-link below.

official site

The official Dragon Quest Swords website is now open, and you are very much welcome to check it out. Although it is fully in Nihongo, that shouldn't be a barrier for you to enjoy its features.

Just feel free to browse through it, and certainly, there will always be something good in store for you behind those Japanese categories. Entering the site, you are treated to the front page which provides you with magical bells for music. If you run your mouse through the words "Sword", you'll realize that each letter plays a particular musical note.

Now, we're guessing that if you are truly a fan of the franchise, you just might be able to play the theme song of DQS using the said keys, IF you know the song well enough.

Apart from that, there are also galleries wherein you can check out the character information (or so, we're guessing by context), as well as screenshots. Oh, and if you click on the second to the last button at the left with the word "NEW", you'll find yourself directed to a Japanese ad for the Wii.

Yup, told you there's a lot of goodies for you here. To check out the site, just click on the Read link below.

I miss the old L2 and R2 buttons... I really do.The controller and the USB connector

Okay, there's been some talk about the PS3's controller and people are asking things like how will it work, how does it charge, how much will batteries for the thing cost, stuff like that. Well, an update on a Japanese tech site called Broadband Watch answers a few questions about the controller, and at the same time, due to the iffy nature of online translation engines, raises a few questions.

The reports says that the controller will have to be paired with a USB cable before play. The pairing process will be required each time the console is shut down or turned back on. We're a bit unsure if you have to do this each time the controller loses power. If you're fluent in Nihongo, feel free to inform us of any possible mistakes we've made in giving you this bit of data that's based on rough translation.

The controller should have about 30 hours of playtime for every two-and-half hour charge. A sad bit though is that the battery isn't replaceable, so if your controller's lithium ion batteries refuses to charge, off to the repair store or the retailer you go. Yep, you buy a whole new controller. Some have been quick to point out though that the cost of buying a new PS3 controller - if in case it's batteries go kaput - should be around the same as getting play and charge kits for controllers of other consoles.

Well just to be sure we get this right, if you think you know better, try getting all the details from the 'Engrish' below:

Power source of the controller has built in the lithium ion charge pond, charge does by way of USB. As for charge approximately 2.5 hours being necessary possible, at the time of full charge work of maximum of 30 hours is. If even with when the electric battery becomes the sky, you connect to PS3 with USB, you can play directly. Furthermore, as for the electric battery because you cannot remove, when the electric battery consumes, it replaces the controller, or it means to put out to repair.

Anyway, from the looks of it, if the controller batteries die and you're really short on cash but you still want to play, the controllers should still be able to function via USB connection. That USB cable better be long. Sigh. If only Sony didn't have a recent problem regarding batteries and laptops.

Despite online worries about the thing's batteries, my real pet peeve with the PS3 controller is only a minor one: WTF did they do to the L2 and R2 buttons?! Sigh.

How well do you know your Japanese? Have you got your conjunctions and inflections at the right places? Well your mastery of the Japanese language can be tested in Quiz! Nihongo Ou! which roughly translates as “Quiz! Japanese King!” Unlike most language games that usually teaches English or Kanji, Quiz Nihongo Ou! runs you through a lesson proper, some quizzes, and a long term exam. There are 8 progressive classes that you can take in Nihongo Ou, just enough to give you some Nihongo nightmares.

Kanji fans shouldn't fret over the lack of Kanji tests in the game. There is a tower game wherein you gain a level in your tower if you manage to write the right kanji. If you make a mistake thrice, you start your tower from the first floor again. The game also sports a multiplayer mode wherein you and a friend could play a round of questions to answer. From guessing Kanjis to multiple choices, Nihongo Ou turns you into the powerful King of Japanese! A truly pleasant game for those who are enthusiastic in learning this beautifully complex language.
