Hacker - Image 1The good folks over at Blizzard's official World of Warcraft forums have provided a very useful checklist of how to avoid keyloggers who are even sneaky enough to hack Blizzard posters. Check out the tips enumerated by WoW forum poster Lythria, and you better take heed - WoW player or no - since the following preventive measures can be used for securing your most personal information online.

Being careful with the links before you click on them is very important, as many people fall prey into clicking links that activate keylogging scripts. One of the things you can do is to make sure the link will lead to a well-known site (such as Photobucket) by hovering on the link and checking out the status bar at the bottom of your browser.

Another thing to do is installing some browser add-ons that help prevent the running of scripts, such as Mozilla Firefox's "NoScript".

Lythria will update her post from time to time as more ways of detecting/avoiding keyloggers are found, so its better to check the Via link to catch the updates yourself.

ARM and six other companies are designing an open source platform for mobile applications - Image 1Seven big names in the online and mobile industry have banded together in an effort to release a new standard of mobile application software that will be easily available for mobile users everywhere.

ARM, a British company responsible for designing chips for cellphones, announced its plans during the fourth annual ARM Developers' Conference held this week in Sta Clara, California. ARM, along with Samsung, Texas Instruments, Mozilla, Marvell, MontaVista, and Movial have decided to design a Linux-based open source platform to base the next generation of mobile applications on.

The purpose of this new collaboration is the hope that they will be able to create products and technology at a quicker pace with the help of the online community by developing enhanced applications through this open source platform.

ARM plans to release the full platform by 2008 and expects that the first devices bearing this new platform will be available by 2009. However, some critics were saying that the iPhone already has the exact same capabilities as the ones planned by ARM and the other companies.

However, the potential of this new platform is still very high considering the amount of applications open source programmers can contribute to the effort. Mike Inglis, an execute VP at ARM had this to say about the collaboration:

Today's consumers are very knowledgeable about technology, want to be connected to the Internet and access multimedia content and applications anywhere, at anytime, yet they do not want to be restricted by short battery life and inadequate features that will limit their experiences.

By stepping up the collaboration among key stakeholders in the mobile market, we will be able to jointly deliver the devices and applications with the cutting-edge innovation consumers have come to expect.

Look it up: WoW Armory Firefox search engine addition - Image 1

Need even quicker access to The Warcraft Armory? If your sudden affinity to task shortcuts has you drooling for faster access and searches over Blizzard's main database for World of Warcraft, then quick add-on solutions are available to your perusal. Actually, it's available with conditions: if you've got Mozilla.org's Firefox browser as your Internet surfing tool.

Though there are many search engine add-ons available at Mycroft search engine dev page for Mozilla, there's just a few that function well. One for example was coded by a player for World of Warcraft, though it seems Blizzard may have their own official version in the works.

"It's actually being worked on at the moment, keep an eye on the armory page. It should be going up within a day or two," said community manager Drysc, keeping care not to drool on the poster below. Okay, we were kidding about the last part.

Aside from that single statement though, there isn't much else to go by, so we'll just have to wait for developer updates in a few days or so. In the meantime, you may want to try out this WoW player-contributed search engine add-on, provided via the Read link below.

Quest Engine opens WiiPicross.com - Image 1

Independent video game developer Quest Engine Inc. announced today the opening of WiiPicross.com, an online site featuring logic puzzles and other mental fun challenges that can be accessed through Wii's Opera Browser. Those who don't have the console can also join the fun in their PC units through Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Aside from the games, another good thing about WiiPicross is that it allows users to make their own personal doodle into a challenging logic puzzle through the fully-featured online puzzle editor. Those who are interested to try this may use the Wiimote or the PC mouse in creating puzzles.

Anyway, WiiPicross is also home to other fun-filled activities like a daily Puzzle of the Day, a how-to-play guide, 16 exclusive feature puzzles designed to build puzzling skills from scratch, as well as custom made Link Puzzles.

If you're puzzle is really that good, Quest Engine might even feature it in the Puzzle of the Day section. Our Read link below will take you to WiiPicross' online site. Enjoy!

Black and White from Petru Toader - Image 1

Homebrew developer Petru Toader (aka petru_bounty) just gave QJ.NET a heads up (thanks!) regarding a new build for the PSP Portal known as Black and White. Aside from the usual things that normally come with a portal, one of the many highlights of Petru Toader's creation is the inclusion of a Messenger and Mozilla Firefox browser.

Anyway, the new build brings Black and White up to v2.00 and we listed down below its other new features. Be sure that your PlayStation Portable is running on 2.71 or higher before loading this to your unit.
  • 140 Flash Games
  • 16 Videos
  • 18 Applications
  • PSP Messenger
  • Added "UPDATES" section
  • Added "Downloads" section
  • Modified buttons graphics
  • More cool things..
On a more personal note, we'd like to share that some of us here enjoyed the Create-a-Ride feature that can be found in Black and White's Application section. In this feature, you are tasked to modify a car from body paint to accessories before you roll it out on the streets.

Anyway, Black and White v2.00 comes with a Readme and you know well how important it is for you to read that file first before doing anything.

WoW logo - Image 1Players in World of Warcraft's Public Test Realms (PTR) report that they're encountering a download error that's preventing them from logging in. The problem was reported by Zhork over at WoW's PTR Forums, who explained that the problem occurred after an attempt at downloading the PTR's most recent patch:

I went to delete my WoW Test folder and it didn't exist, I guess i deleted it some time in the past to try to get it to work. So this is how it goes every single time I'm trying to DL it now. DL Client PC Version>DL Window Pops up(mozilla firefox)>Open>First patch fully DL's then when you can hit finish an Error pops up saying "This update requires WoW.exe  version 2.1.3.6898. You have an older version, 1.10.1.5230."

Zhork attempted to reinstall the game in the PC, although this didn't remedy the problem. Fellow PTR player Kaydeethree (K3D) dropped by a little later to explained what may be causing the problem: Zhork may have multiple copies of WoW in the PC. K3D then suggested the player his WoW shortcut's Properties menu to check the target directory to be sure it was linked to the right folder.

Blizzard spokesman Hortus further dropped by to further advise that Zhork could also attempt to place the PTR downloader directly in the WoW directory, and run it form there. The downloader would then automatically check which version of WoW.exe was in the folder. The problem seems to have been resolved according to the thread.
