This shouldn't be all too surprising if this turns out to be true. SVG Tribune let slip that a new Mortal Kombat film will start filming by this September. Previously owned by Midway Games, who is now officially owned by Warner Bros. following their swift acquisition (due to an absence of contesting bids), it's not too far-fetched that WB will want to pursue a movie tie-up with the video game franchise.

I kinda feel bad for Midway. They just can't get a break. After getting a US$ 33M bid from Warner last month, here comes another lawsuit that could make the Warner deal fall through.

Whenever we get news from Twitter, we usually get mere hints, rumors, and minor teases. But in his Twitter page, Mortal Kombat's Ed Boon was quite direct when it came to the violence they're gonna be packing into Mortal Kombat 9. For the MK fans out there - here's an encouraging bit of news: there will be blood and lots of it.

After spending 17 years with Midway Games, the Mortal Kombat Team is now in talks with other publishers, looking to abandon the sinking ship. If this pushes through, the bankrupt publisher would lose one of its key assets in its difficult struggle to stay afloat.

"It's not our goal to sell Mortal Kombat." This is what Geoff Mogilner of Midway told MTV Multiplayer in regards to the circulating assumption that the recent Chapter 11 filing of the game developer has the objective of selling the franchise off.

Just how bad does Midway Games have it right now? Well aside from filing for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, they're considering selling off the franchise they're arguably most well-known for: Mortal Kombat.

It's one thing when Sony and Microsoft throw mud at each other and call each other names, it's quite another when actual game developers throw down and join the rumble. Shaun Himmerick, Executive Producer for Wheelman, remarks that programming for the PS3 was "a huge pain in the ass," while the Xbox 360 is like "a dumb PC."

Ouch and ouch.

It's not looking good for Mortal Kombat studio, Midway Games. The company, which recently filed for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, was officially delisted from the New York Stock Exchange. Further adding to its growing list of pains is its departure from E3 group, the Entertainment Software Association.

I doubt the government will intervene with this one. Midway Games, the publisher of the Mortal Kombat series, has run out of time to pay back its US$ 150 million debt to its bond owners. As a last ditch effort to reorganize, the company has filed for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

You know, I still remember the time when I thought getting to Chapter 11 meant just moving your bookmark.

So is Midway really going under or what? Despite announcing a new Mortal Kombat game and managing to buy time to avoid bankruptcy, the company may be back in hot water. Midway chairman - uh, now ex-chairman, I mean - Peter C. Brown has resigned from his post in the company.
