Over on our PSP Development forums, forum member fredddy has uploaded the first multiplayer version for his Lua Icy Tower homebrew game. As my fellow blogger Max F. explains it, Lua Icy Tower is an Icy Town clone that has new moving platforms, a combo system, and a high score system - and Harold is now in a real icy tower." Plus, Harold's brother/evil clone/whatever Harold 2 has also been thrown into the mix this time. Since this is the first version we don't have a long changelog to fluff this article up with, so we're going straight to the controls. For Player 1, the left and right buttons on the D-pad are used for movement, while the L shoulder button is used to jump. Player 2 moves using the Square and Circle buttons, while the R shoulder button is used for jumping. Check out the screenshots below for a peek at the game. If you have any suggestions or bug reports, click on the "visit" link below. Download: Lua Icy Tower M Visit: PSP Development forums |

Shoesy has posted this release at our forums. Fredddy, a member of the German homebrew site PSPSource, released an update of Lua Icy Tower at the end of the Lua Coding Competition 2006 (we went over to PSPSource.de but the site is currently down). Lua Icy Tower v0.5 is an Icy Town clone that has new moving platforms, a combo system, and a high score system - and Harold is now in a real icy tower. The previous version of this game was fun, but this is even better.
Here's stuff from the readme.txt:
Finally, we'd like to get the attention of PSP newbies who got PSPs for Christmas: Welcome to the PSP community! Check out the FAQs, Guides, and Tutorials at our forums. You might want to take a close look at the Guides: General PSP for general PSP stuff (like figuring out the version of "firmware" you have in your PSP), and then you can get into homebrew by reading the threads in the Guides: Hacks, Homebrew and Emulators forum. Recommended reading includes the ULTIMATE Homebrew Guide and the The Ultimate QJ Guide. Download: [Lua Icy Tower v0.5] Discuss: [Forum release thread] |

It looks like German PSP coder Fredddy has gone Lua coding mad and released an update to his LUA Icy Tower homebrew game clone of Icy Tower, a freeware game originally released by Free Lunch Design back in 2001. The game features a Tower which consists of floors in different sizes and is of infinite height. The player's goal is to reach higher and higher floors without falling off the screen. The player can fall off if he fails to land on a floor or if he does not keep up with the scrolling of the tower. As you can tell, with a never ending tower, this game and consequently getting the high score can be quite addictive. Fredddy has been working hard to add sounds and music to the game to make your portable Icy Tower experience even better, with a better jumping system to ensure you hit your target floor. Here's the full changelog:

Fredddy has released LUA Icy Tower v0.2 - a Lua version of Icy Tower. Icy Tower is a fun and short game from Free Lunch Design. It has been called the best free game ever because of its very high addictive factor. The game goal is to gain as much score as possible by making Harold the Homeboy climb as high as possible up a huge tower. He can also get to the top via combo jumps. A combo jump is a jump high enough for him to reach platforms two or three floors above. Launching several consecutive combo jumps gets bonus points. The best way is to climb really high and make combo jumps on the way. The PC game features custom characters, unlockable floor types, replays to share with your friends, and lots of combo rewards. We can't tell you much about LUA Icy Tower v0.2 because it was made by a German homebrew developer. What we do know this is fredddy's first Lua game. We also know one early player likes Lua Icy Tower, saying that it works great. "I find the Game a nice idea." he said. Maybe you'd feel the same way, too - so go ahead and give it a try. Thanks to eidechse34 for the tip. Download: [LUA Icy Tower v0.2] |
