Stranglehold movie on the way - Image 1Stranglehold, the video game which served as a sequel to the 1992 movie Hard Boiled, is getting a movie adaptation, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Few games deserve a movie as much as Stranglehold does.

Details after the link.

Dynasty Warriors StrikeforceSo. Are you a fan of Chinese movies? Maybe you're a fan of John Woo films? Or maybe... you just find Zhao Wei hot? (Or if you swing the other way, Takeshi Kaneshiro, hmmm?) Whatever the case, the DVD for Red Cliff (Part 1) is just about to be released in DVD form in Japan.

So why is this posted in the PSP section, anyway? Well, since the movie is related to the Three Kingdoms history, guess who decided to pounce on this opportunity to promote their upcoming game?

Midway logo - Image 1Thanks to the game spearheaded by John Woo, Midway Games moved up the ranks to take 35% of Europe's market share after Stranglehold (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, PC) reached target sales numbers earlier than expected. Stranglehold remains on the top ten of UK's best selling Xbox 360 titles, and gives Midway a bright future for 2008. "Our goal was to get to 35 per cent in 2008. We've gotten there this year," said Midway CEO David Zucker after crediting Stranglehold as one of the major factors.

Midway Games goes gold with John Woo's Stranglehold for the PS3 - Image 1Golden pistols aren't the only thing that's made out of gold in John Woo Presents Stranglehold. Midway Games has announced that the PlayStation 3 version of the game has just gone gold.

This version will finally ship to stores this coming October 29. It should be remembered that the Xbox 360 and PC versions came out just recently.

PS3 fans of John Woo's cinematic masterpieces of bullets and blood will now be able to experience first hand what it's like to be in one of his movies as you take control of the hard boiled Hong Kong cop Inspector Tequila Yuen.

If you've played the demo of the game then you know how close it comes to the actual cinematic feel of an action-packed movie. PlayStation gamers can now experience the same hardcore shooting madness the game offers.

For those of us who unfortunately could not get into the Crysis elusive beta registration, here's a little something to remind ourselves just what we're going to miss: three gameplay videos of Crytek's glorious-looking FPS in multiplayer action. That's right - it's the part of the game where we'll be able to face off against people from all over the world, in an epic gun battle that not only looks ridiculously awesome, but silky-smooth as well.

We won't spoil you as to what you'll be able to see in these videos - they really need to be seen to be believed - but suffice to say, if there ever was a game to match up against the current FPS giants in this generation, Crysis is it. And a little hint for the more eagle-eyed of us - look for water effects, as well as a brief moment that would certainly make even John Woo go 'wow'.

Enough talk from us! Enjoy the videos!

Chart Track UK for the week ending September 29 - Image 1

Chart Track UK has announced the games topping their all-format charts ending for the week ending September 29. Much like the warm welcome it enjoyed in North America, Bungie Studios' Halo 3 finds an equally receptive gaming audience in the UK as it takes the top post.

Electronic Arts' Medal of Honor: Airborne (PS3, PC, Xbox 360) - which topped the charts in our last report -  appears to have parachuted all the way down to 12. FIFA 08 (PS3, PSP, PS3, Xbox 360) currently holds the second place, followed by MySims, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, and Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights.
  1. Halo 3 (Microsoft)
  2. FIFA 08 (Electronic Arts)
  3. MYSims (Electronic Arts)
  4. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (Electronic Arts)
  5. Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights (THQ)
  6. Sega Rally (Sega)
  7. Super Paper Mario (Nintendo)
  8. Transformer: The Game (Activision)
  9. SKATE (Electronic Arts)
  10. Stuntman: Ignition (THQ)
  11. Forza Motorsport 2 (Microsoft)
  12. Medal of Honor: Airborne (Electronic Arts)
  13. Quake Wars: Enemy Territory (Activision)
  14. John Woo Presents Stranglehold (Midway)
  15. New Super Mario Brothers (Nintendo)
  16. Resistance: Fall of Man (Sony Computer Entertainment)
  17. Colin McRae: DiRT (Codemasters)
  18. The Sims 2: Bon Voyage (Electronic Arts)
  19. BioShock (Take Two)
  20. MotorStorm (Sony Computer Entertainment)

Midway's John Woo's Stranglehold will be barred in Germany for too much violent content - Image 1With today's numerous censorship issues in the video gaming industry, it isn't any wonder that they would focus their attention on John Woo's bloody gun ballet shooter, Stranglehold (PC, Xbox 360, PS3). However, it isn't video games' activists pulling the trigger this time. Rather, it's the authorities in Germany who refuse to have the game shipped to their shores after its recent European release.

What's their beef with the game? Simply put, it's too violent. Then again, if you've watched any of John Woo's movies you would agree that the level of blood and gore in his films are a prerequisite to how he would "use movies as a language."

The German version of the game had several portions already toned down in terms of violent content and the like, however it didn't stop them from cutting off the game's release in the country altogether. While the statement given was specific for the Xbox 360 version of the game, it's no doubt that this will compromise the other platforms in which the game will also be released.

Stranglehold - Image 1Just when we thought that there's no more delays for the PS3 version of Midway's Stranglehold, comes another indication that it could be. Online retailer Amazon now lists the Sony PS3 version of Stranglehold as coming out on October 29, which is way far back from its supposed September release.

Now, this isn't the only time that the PS3 version of Stranglehold got...well, choked up. A few months back we have reported that Stranglehold for the PS3 was to be delayed despite the completion of the PC and Xbox versions, and even John Woo's flick for the PC and Xbox 360 had its share of delays as well.

Is this a just a chronic sickness for this title? Do check back often to find out.
