A few juicy details about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots rolled off the tongue of the game's creator himself in a press conference hosted in Tokyo. Hideo Kojima says that the PlayStation 3's potential "hardware base seller" is done, finito, and ready to go. There's just this collection of a couple more details, however, and they're in store for those who brave the full story. Read: SPOILER ALERT.

Love them or hate them, the post-credit phone calls in Metal Gear games give the hints to the next installments of the games. In the MGS4 presscon in Japan, Liquid Ocelot's voice was heard in one of those trademark calls and it hinted of what series creator Hideo Kojima will be busy with after this installment. There's no rest for the wicked, and that certainly seems the case for Hideo Kojima, the celebrated creator of the Metal Gear Solid series series. This should put all rumors about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots appearing on the Xbox 360 to rest. High street retailer HMV UK has just admitted that the pre-order listing for the said title that appeared recently on its website is nothing more than a mistake from its online admin team.

Online site GamesIndustry tried to contact the retailer for further confirmation about the matter. One representative explained,

In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform.

As of now, Konami and Kojima Studios has maintained that the last chapter of Snake's saga will only be available to PlayStation 3 owners. However, it should be remembered as well that Konami Digital President Fumiaki Tanaka was quoted as saying that the franchise might go multiplatform in the future because of its popularity.

When Konami and Kojima Studios held a party last week in honor of Metal Gear Solid's 20th anniversary, video game journalists spotted Xbox Japan General Manager Takahashi Sensui at the event. Fans immediately speculated that this could be a hint that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is heading to the Xbox 360.

If we are to believe the following insider scoop sent to gaming site Kotaku, then we just might see Solid Snake stealthily prowling outside PlayStation borders. Reportedly, Konami had an analyst meeting today to talk about the following:

• Metal Gear Solid 4's exact release date will be announced at the Tokyo Game Show.
• President Fumiaki Tanaka of Konami Digital Entertainment stated that release is likely Q4 March 2008.
• President Tanaka also stated, "As we are aware of the popularity and hardware-driving power of this software franchise, going forwards we are open to taking this franchise across to other platforms".

Like we said, the meeting just transpired hours ago and there's no way of verifying the said information. You could take this rumor with as much credibility as you want. Or, we could all just wait and see what happens.
