PlayStation Network - Image 1PS3 firmware 3.0, which carries a rather hefty set of additions and tweaks, is all set to go live on September 1. This is a major update, to say the least, and according to Sony's PSN operations director Eric Lempel, it's the last big firmware release we'll see this year. The reason was that it will be very prone to cheating, and, well, that's just not fair. Today, we're hearing somebody else from Sony talk about the matter, pretty much echoing the same thing. Not just anybody, actually. This month's bearer of PSP bad news: Shu Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios.

PlayStation Network - Image 1PSN Operations Director, Eric Lempel, has a lot of fighting words to say about the state of online service, the PlayStation Home. And it all boils down to this: there's no more fighting with Xbox Live. He also said something about their "competition" with Apple, saying that they don't necessarily want to go down the path of offering various software options, particularly for the PSP, because they don't want to degrade the experience. Read on after the jump.
