Last August, we reported on this "insider info" pertaining to an alleged PSP-4000, which will not only phase out the PSP-3000, but will also revive the neglected UMD format. Now, even the industry's foremost analysts are saying they won't be surprised at all if this turns out to be true. You know what they say: where there's smoke, there's sure to be barbecue.

Dead Space Extraction moved an underwhelming 9,000 units for the first week of its release, September 29 through October 3. This was revealed in NPD's software sales report. Jesse Divinich of EEDAR, however, says that Electronic Arts probably saw that one coming.

The biggest thing that you missed this week on the Xbox 360 blog is the back and forth dance towards the Xbox 360 Elite price cut. The good thing is that all's well that ends well. We did get the official announcement of the Elite price cut, but unfortunately, we did have to say goodbye to the Pro model. Oh well. We can't have everything, I guess. Despite the US$ 100 price cut from the Xbox 360 Elite, analyst firm EEDAR is of the opinion that this will not in any way positively affect the sales of the console. At least not significantly.

If the analysts turn out right, then we just might see the fourth consecutive sales decline in the June results of NPD, and then we'll see that price cut happen. Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan and Jesse Divinich of EEDAR are synonymous in saying that sales will most likely be down by around 20-23%.

Between the bad boys Alex Mercer and Cole MacGrath, who takes the cake? EEDAR weighs in and the results are a mix of official estimates and personal choices. On the official estimates, EEDAR declares Prototype (PS3, Xbox 360, or PC) as the winner, with Alex Mercer "expected"  to outsell Cole MacGrath's inFamous by a stellar 90% -- that is thanks in large part to the combined sales of the game's multiplatform releases.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata may not like hardware price cuts, but analysts are expecting Nintendo to drop the Wii's price even lower before the holiday season. More after the jump.

The March 2009 hardware sales figures haven't been released yet, so you can expect Michael Pachter and EEDAR to throw in their pre-NPD report forecasts. Some numbers for their projected sales of consoles during last month may vary, but one thing remains similar: the Wii may still be on the lead, but the gap between the PS3 and Xbox 360 seems to be thinning down.
