Direct2Drive to distribute THQ PC titles - Image 1

Digital video game delivery just keeps getting more and more popular. Here's an example. Just recently, Direct2Drive announced that it has inked a deal with video game publisher THQ to digitally distribute a number of the latter's PC game titles.

"Our customers are passionate about great games and blockbusters like Supreme Commander, the award-winning Company of Heroes, and the full Dawn of War series are exciting additions to our unparalleled library of AAA games available for download," said Jamie Berger, senior vice president of consumer products for IGN Entertainment.

With this deal, THQ joins the list of publishers - which includes 2K Games, Activision and Ubisoft, among others - who have previously partnered with Direct2Drive to bring their titles to consumers via digital download.

Supreme Commander logo - Image 1

News have just reached our ears that THQ has just released a new patch for their 3D RTS game for the PC, Supreme Commander, which will update your retail game to v3220. As with most patches, this one will fix a few minor bugs that users have encountered and reported, and also removes the SecuRom protection in the game and optimizes the mini UI.

v3217 is the first patch to be released for the initial gold versions of the game that were shipped to most territories. The list of updates in this patch (which presumably carries the v3217 improvements as well) is quite massive so let's not dilly dally any longer, here's the full release notes for patch v3220:
  • Build 3217 represents a full integration from the game's main development branch, reflecting many changes to the game's code base. Only the partial highlights are included here.
  • Support for Direct2Drive download version enabled.
  • Several color, prop, texture, normal map and effects adjustments throughout the game.
  • Several animation and animation speed adjustments throughout the game.
  • Note that Build 3217 does not include an update to GPGnet. Current GPGnet version is 1.5.52.
And that's only a small part of the full list...head on to the full article for more!

Turn-based strategy gameFor the schemers our there, we've got something we're sure you can sink your brain matter into. Wargaming just announced that they've released Massive Assault 2, and that it's now available for download over at direct2drive.

Based on the original Massive Assault game, MAN2 takes off with a new 3d engine, allowing this turn-based game to move with the speed and fluidity of its RTS competitors - kinda like your traditional tabletops strategy game on steroids.

Also tweaked up is the network gaming capability, which allows you to be able to find any player of any specific skill level for your next strategic conquest - another major improvement considering the previous title's not-so-stellar issues with its non-fixable AI and occasionally painful matches. For the brainy dude out to conquer a homeworld near them, the download's waiting.
