It may not be raining cats and dogs in the gaming world this week, but that does not mean there' s nothing to look forward to for the days between August 3 and 9. We've got a little bit of racing (GRID, Crash Time) for daredevils out there, and an adventure that'll sure to teach a lesson or two to  those youngsters who do not believe in monsters and who throw house parties when their parents are away (Monster Madness: Grave Danger).

Another week of On Shelves, and the major consoles are apparently missing in action. That doesn't mean, however, that there won't be any fun to be had in this week's slew of game releases. Final Fantasy IV will finally be getting its turn in the DS spotlight, for one, and there are several other sports and adventure titles to keep you busy through the summer lull.

We mostly know Hot Wheels as toy cars from Mattel, though over the years, the little toy cars have started to get ported to various video game platforms. Now that it's coming to the PlayStation Portable as Hot Wheels Ultimate Racing, it sure looks hot.

There hasn't been a lot of info about this upcoming PSP title from Destination Software, Inc. (DSI Games), however, we did find a big batch of screenshots for the game. Hot Wheels Ultimate Racing will reportedly feature 20 cars, 11 tracks, unlockable performance upgrades, and a number of game modes. In the screenshots, we see a lot of customization options and some booster action.

Anyway, we'll try and dig up more info on this PSP racer, so be sure to be here when we get to reporting. Hot Wheels Ultimate Racing will be racing to Europe's shelves this August. In the meantime, check out the screenshots.

Today we have some gameplay details for Destination Software's upcoming Wii title Chicken Shoot. In this shooting game, players have to help a farmer defend his land from a bunch of psychotic chickens who are out to make his life a living hell.

Players can choose from four different weapons including a shotgun and a machine gun. The game will run through six different locations: The Village, Nevada Desert, Rocky Island, the Forest, Antarctica and Sahara.

Chicken Shoot will also have two gameplay modes: Arcade and Classic. In Arcade Mode, players will have to dispatch a given number of chickens to move on to the next stage. Classic Mode will let players pit their shooting skills against the clock. There's also an Egg Catcher mini-game for those who feel too burned out from all that shooting.

Chicken Shoot also has a couple of online modes. Two-player coop lets friends play together to rack up big points. For the more competitively-spirited gamer, there's four-player competitive play where players face up to three friends in some adversarial chicken shooting action.

The game has been localized to English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. For a look at the game's cartoon-style graphics, check out the first screenshots from Chicken Shoot below. Chicken Shoot is slated for release next month.
