Last week saw the return of many homebrew developers to the scene. This week shows us something similar, as well as a good serving of new homebrew apps, games, and emulators to satisfy any PlayStation Portable owner to the fullest. The source code for the virtual keyboard app released by danzel has been a literal boon to the homebrew community. Several homebrew devs have benefited from it by incorporating Danzeff OSK into their own programs. You don't have to look like a tourist with a large map in hand. With homebrew developer Royale's PSP-Maps, you can view Google Maps from your Sony Playstation Portable. After getting a Windows version for the previous build, what does version 0.8 bring us? Danzeff keyboard support, among others, that's what! More details after the jump.

Homebrew developer Phosphorous just updated his homebrew application, The Good Bookr for the Sony PlayStation Portable, to add a very convenient search feature for all your Bible reading needs. Check out the full article for more details.

Homebrew Developer Mistabeen has put forward a proof of concept design for a new text input program for the PSP. The proposal was made to suggest a faster way to input text than the popular app, Danzeff's keyboard. Mistabeen calls the design the CuTy Keyboard and shared it in hopes that a C programmer would find a way to work it out in the script. Check out his proof of concept design in the full article.

Although Poison_xtreamlua said that the previous version of the Danzeff's-OSK-alternative keyboard app was the last version of the homebrew, v4 was released to fix a bug and optimize the code. To top it off, now you can move the keyboard by pressing L.

Developer Zion and his team has been in and out of the PSP homebrew scene for the last few months, but he's now back and working on several projects for the PSP homebrew community. His latest release is a nifty on screen keyboard application called Zion OSK v1.1 Beta.

PSP Homebrew developer Deerwings has posted his first app down at our forums: the PSP Browser JavaScript Keyboard. The app was written with Danzeff's Keyboard in mind, only Deerwing's app was designed specifically to be able to input text in a web browser.

Currently you can't access the keyboard while browsing through a page because the author wasn't able to replace the original OSK with the app yet. Deerwings describes his app this way:

This is a Javascript PSP keyboard that works for your web browser. [...] This javascript keyboard is basically an html page that you load with your browser, and then set as your homepage or load as a favorite as you like, in order to open up webpages more quickly and less frustratingly.

Here's the developer's notes:

• Built-In Google Search button - Allows you to enter plain text into the field and automatically submit to Google. Get your results even faster!
• Built-In Google Proxy - Allows you to use Google's Small Device proxy. Breaks up pages to fit on cellphones and other small devices. Getting out of memory errors? This may help!
• Full QWERTY Keyboard - Includes commonly used symbols as well as letters and numbers, and a keypad for direct IP address entry.
• To install this, all you have to do is unzip it to your root MSO:/ , (Or wherever you like) and then open your browser and navigate to file:/kb.html (Or wherever you put it).

That sure was fast. Heads up from Deerwings who has released v1.1 of PSP Browser Javascript Keyboard. Here are the additions to the app:

• [It] now it has the ability to open pages in the current tab the keyboard is in, or work with the other two tabs without closing the keyboard tab as well
• You can switch between tabs with Square + LTrig

Since homebrew developer zx-81 mentioned before that he'll stop working on Danzel's AFKIM, we're quite delighted to find out that a new version of the nifty PSP instant messenger app surfaced. AFKIM version 3.3.0 brings new updates for everyone who love their IM services on the go.

For those still scratching their heads in wonder, AFKIM (or Away From the Keyboard Instant Messenger) is a universal messenger client that supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, GTalk, and Yahoo!, among others. To get the most out of this convenient chat program, don't forget muse over the Readme files that come with the download.

Aside from new design and other functions, here are some new features in this release (from the readme):

• Add iso 8859-1 font/characters compatibility (useful for French, Spanish, German etc ... )
• Add modified version of Danzeff Keyboard with iso 8859-1 characters
• Code cleaning

Homebrew developer zx-81 just rolled out a new build of pet application PSPSSH over at QJ.NET PSP Development Forum bringing it up to version 1.0.9.

For the uninitiated, before we proceed, PSPSSH is a SSH2 client for the PlayStation Portable based from Matt Johnston's server and client Dropbear v0.48.1. With this program, users are given remote access to their SSH-enabled PC units.

This allows them to enter commands and run scripts from the handheld as if they're exactly right in front of their personal computers. We listed down the changelog for this version provided by zx-81:

• Add iso8859-1 characters support in vt100 emulation
• Add word.txt file to paste words in vt100 console (words in this file can be written using UTF8/unicode)
• All text fonts are now compatible with iso8859-1 characters
• Add all iso8859-1 characters in Danzeff virtual keyboard
• Bug fix in IR keyboard .ini files with UTF8 specification (for example mapping string such as "u+c3a0" didn't work properly)
• New Targus mapping with French characters mapped from ALT 1 up to ALT - (see targus-include.ini file for more details)

Please refer to the Readme.txt file included in the download before installing and running the client on your PSP units to avoid any problems. The download package below includes builds compatible with FW 1.5, CFW 3.xx OE, as well as the source code.
