More products for the geographically-challenged have been coming our way nowadays. Just a few days ago, we featured Averatec's navigation solution. Now another company, in the form of Korean electronics juggernaut LG, is putting its hat in the satellite navigation race. The LG bet is tagged as the LN710 and it seems that the company is banking on the product's simplicity as its secret weapon against all the other sat-nav thingamajigs out there. This one sports the usual 320x240 touchscreen and guarantees that you'll never be lost with its coveted Sirf Star III chipset. Plus, if you wanna amuse the kids (or get them backseat drivers off you're back), you can pop an SD Card into it and amuse them with pictures and other what-nots. It will be available in four models- - a 256MB model with basic UK and Ireland maps, a 512MB variant which adds major western roads, a 1GB offer for extra directions around major European countries including France and, to round off, a 2GB top-of-the-line model which has maps for all of western Europe. Pricing and availability is yet to be divulged. |

We have known the company Averatec as a maker of laptops and this coming December, they'll be coming up with their first UMPC. So it was quite a surprise when the company apparently also have plans on entering the not-yet-fully tapped market of portable navigation. The company has recently unveiled the Voya 350, it's maiden product in the navigation area. Which is perfect for frequent out-of-towners or for people who are just geographically-challenged.Inside this small think-tank is a 300Mhz Samsung CPU, it also has Microsoft Windows CEV4.2 for its operating system, plus it is equipped with 64MB of RAM. The Voya 350 is designed to display turn-by-turn guidance while utilizing the usual NAVTEQ maps shown on the 3.5-inch TFT touch-screen. It also has SM/ MMC slot that could store excess data in the absence of a built-in hard drive. It also has 4 hours of battery life, so if you're planning to bring this baby in a really long cross-country trip, then it might disappoint you. Nonetheless, if you're in a hunt for a simple navigation contraption that won't put a huge dent in your wallet, then you oughta cast your eyes on this one - which has a price tag of roughly $400. |

Laptops are generally the usual bore. If you turned up to the library with one, chances are yours would look just the same as the next one, and most likely be made by one of the large Laptop making companies such as Toshiba or Dell. A little bit of customization wouldn't hurt, would it? This is where the Averatec 1050 comes in. This sleek-looking laptop isn't your bog-standard Dell with a Averatec badge on. All laptops in the 1050 range can be customized the way you want them to be, with any picture you like on the front. The 1050 comes bundled with a 1.1Ghz power saving processor, 512Mb of Ram and Windows XP. Although the specs may not astound you, the ability to have whatever photos you like (keep it clean) on the front of your laptop screen is great. The Averatec 1050 series can be yours for £999/$1800 through the Averatec online store. Currently the 1050 series is only available in their European store, but should reach the US store soon. The price tag may seem a bit steep for a low-spec laptop, but you can't put a price on customization. Note: No laptops were actually floating during the making of this article.
