Pegi 12+ rating for the EuropeFor all the scary visuals and the fact you're racing in Hell (the actual Hell, not Hell, Norway), it's surprising to see a video game with the kind of approval this one has. Data Design and Earache Records' Earache Extreme Metal Racing has reached the approval stage with a kid-friendly rating: 12+ PEGI.

If you're not familiar with PEGI, it's Pan-European Gaming Information. PEGI is essentially an ESRB-type body used in 25 countries across Europe.

Earache Extreme Metal Racing is a step-up in some ways from your usual PSP racer. Conceived by a 15 year-old gamer, the game has you picking racing teams based on actual gothic rock bands. Media player maker Archos has even chipped in by allowing the image of their Archos 104 MP3 player to be used as the in-game music machine, which makes for another interesting twist, besides racing in Hell.

Expect the game to come out in Europe on November 3, and be sure that the ESRB will probably not be content with a 12+ rating for this hellish racer.

heavy action!

Ready to invade the PS2, PC and PSP, Earache Extreme Metal Racing will feature ten Earache racing teams drawing blood on the themed tracks. The Creative Team has confirmed the racing teams set to appear in the game: Mortiis, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Akercocke, Decapitated, Biomechanical Municipal Waste, The Berzerker, Linea 77, and Society 1.

But that's not the only thing going on with this game. Word has it that the Archos 104 MP3 player will be used as the in-game MP3 machine. This means that players will be able to choose tracks while playing the game. This will definitely make listening to the soundtrack more fun as you can choose sounds from Napalm Death, At The Gates, Cathedral, The Haunted, Hate Eternal, Cult of Luna, Beecher, Urkraft, Anata, Mistress, Severe Torture and many others.

The in-game MP3 player idea will be brought to reality through the joint partnership of Metro 3D and Archos, global consumer electronics manufacturer and leader in portable digital entertainment solutions.

Here are some more new screenshots for you to enjoy while waiting for the release of the game.

archosLast month, rumors have leaked all over the web regarding the new line of portable media players from Archos. The company still remains tight-lipped about the subject, but not to worry, because here's some treats for you to look forward to as we walk you through the Archos 604's impressive specs.

First thing to drool about this little wonder is its gorgeous 4.3" screen with a stunningly sharp resolution. It's light, slim, and fits right in your pocket.

The Archos 604 has a 30GB capacity, and is USB compatible. It also draws its power via USB which makes it pretty convenient. This unit also comes with a text reader, a picture viewer, as well as a media player of course which can support most media formats out there.

Other pleasant additions to the 604 would be a kickstand at its rear so that you can prop it on a table and watch your videos in comfort without having to cradle your viewer all the time. And if you're not content with that, well then you can just plug this into a a dock that connects to your TV, thereby turning your Archos into a home DVR.

There's no turning back now.

archosArchos has been manufacturing high-quality (though relatively expensive) MP3 players and PMPs for so long now, we can't NOT think of Archos when PMPs come to mind.

Now maybe there's another cool noun/description we can give Archos' upcoming PMP: iPod killer.

I know we've been talking nonstop about that iPod killer, and we've even shown blurry pics of that supposed device, but there's still nothing really solid to back up these claims about Microsoft's (or any other company's) iPod killer.

That was until we came across Archos' latest Investor kit where an upcoming model (model 504) was being shown, and it definitely looked like something that Microsoft could also be doing.

This device, model 504, is rumored to feature a 30GB hard drive, a 4.3-inch screen, support for GPS and Wi-Fi, and a 3.5G cellular modem. This model also seems to take some features for the large format AV700 TV. If this IS the case, then we can expect a feature-packed iPod killer - and not for Microsoft.

So, can model 504 have a go at the iPod? What do you think?

archosIn mid-March, it was announced that the Archos XS104 will be released in May 2006. Well, the "May" window ended up being a May-June release date, which is totally ok with me. The important thing is the 4GB MP3 player is now available.

The XS104 is the long overdue upgrade to the XS100. It weighs 80 grams and sports a 1.5-inch 262k color display. It comes with a 4GB micro HDD and supports MP3, WMA, and .wav files. It seems there's little going for the XS104 compared to other music players already out in the market. Some might be put off by the 199 Euro ($150) price tag and might realize they'd be better off with a higher capacity flash memory-based player. If it's any consolation, some online sites are selling it for 179.90 Euro ($232).
