X-FlashWasn't it just a few days ago that Art released v16b of the application, X-Flash? In fact it was just three days ago, but that seems so long ago - Art dropped by again today with a new X-Flash version, complete with several improvements.

In case there is someone reading this who is not on the same page with the rest (ergo, someone who doesn't have a full grasp of what this app does and how to use it), we suggest that you take a good look at the application's accompanying readme file. It's there for a good reason and that is for you to avoid doing something bad to your PSP. With that said, let's go to the changelog and other v16d details.

New for X-Flash v16d:
  • Bug fix to v16c.
  • Firmware detection routine was blocking firmware version 2.71 SE-B3, and possibly any SE version later than the original SE-B.
  • This version will block firmware other than 1.50. 2.71 SE-B, or 2.71 SE-B3.
New for X-Flash v16c:
  • Custom Coldboot Opening Sound (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Custom Coldboot Opening Sound with Echo Effect (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Built in Air Wrench Coldboot Opening Sound (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Delete Coldboot Opening Sound (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Apply Biult in Custom XMB Click Sound (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Apply Biult in Custom XMB Error Sound (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Allowed larger custom Gameboot Movie (619Kb Max) to support the Prince Of Persia (Blood & Claw) Gameboot Movie (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Improved Biult In Plain Black Gameboot movie by DarkStone (black movie from V16b sometimes pixelates with 2.71)
  • Fix to "ascii" nickname Easter Egg.
  • Menu editor can now be started with Select button or from the menu to use the Easter Egg (firmware version 1.50)
  • Implemented Real Time checking for low RAM condition caused by Mikmod loading the music module too many times in one session. This would probably never be an issue, since you would have to play the ASCII credits demo or Free Space very many times to consume all available RAM.
  • Fixed "Hello Nickname" welcome screen for 2.71 SE.
  • Various other minor fixes/enhancements.
Currently Disabled for 2.71 SE:
  • XMB Menu Label editor.
  • Firmware Version Spoofers.
  • Plain Black PSP About Screens (may be fixed in a later version).
  • Some Easter Eggs won't work because they rely on version spoofs, detailed name plate picture, etc.
Oh, and thanks to Appleseed629 and all our other friends for the tip!

Here's X-Flash!

As you might have picked up from the post a few days back, Art came up with version 16 of his X-Flash program. One of the notable things to come with the latest version is support for 1.50 and 2.71 SE-B firmwares. Version 16B adds some cosmetic functions for those folks who wanted to get debranded stuff, but retains all of the PSP goodness X-Flash has to offer.

To save you the trouble of reading my gibberish, let's get the info straight from the source. Just remember: X-Flash is probably the most stable app for this particular kind of job, but you might still do something you'll regret to your PSP. Use at your own risk, and don't forget to check the readme.

New for X-Flash V16b:
  • Wave Effect Removed from opening intro screen as well as XMB menu. (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Debranded Coldboot intro screen. (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Debranded Gameboot movie. (firmware version 2.71 SE)
  • Plain Black Gameboot Movie. (firmware version 2.71 SE)
Currently Supported for 2.71 SE:
  • Debranded Coldboot Intro screen.
  • Debranded Gameboot screen,
  • Disable XMB Menu Wave Effect, and Coldboot Intro Wave Effect
  • Custom Monthly Backgrounds, including Plain Black Backgrounds.
  • Custom Font (sample font included is now the ASCII font).
  • Disable Network Update Icon functionality.
  • Custom Name Plate picture (Easter Egg "Art" name plate is disabled in 2.71 SE since only basic name plate pictures work).
  • Firmware Dump (At least 21 Mb free space required for 2.71 SE).
  • Registry Backup and Restore Tool.
  • Custom Gameboot movies.
The list continues after the jump.

Assault v0.4

Grimfate126 from our forums has today released another version of his homebrew shoot 'em up game for the PSP today, bringing it up to v0.4 beta. Not only does this version play in a much more refined way, with a ten-fold increase in the quality of the graphics. Sounds have also been added when you fire, and this game makes a great leap forward with the ability to have 2 players playing on the same PSP on a game which isn't Pong. Sure, it is a little difficult for two people to play a game such as this on the same PSP, but a solution could be on it's way (more on this later). Here's the changelog:
  • Fixed some bugs with the game
  • Added a frag counter - Now you have to kill the other player 5 times to win (the number of frags is displayed next to your health bar)
  • Background added
  • When you shoot, a sound plays
  • MENU : code by genega. GFX and credits by Grimfate126.
We did promise you that a solution for the two people on one PSP business was on the way, and you can find this solution in the form of online play! Grimfate126 has assured us that online play, along with some even better GFX by Appleseed629, and rapid fire are all on the way for future versions.

ProgramLua Main

Access_Denied and Appleseed629 (thanks for the tip) have unveiled a brand new Lua tutorial system that you can study on your PSP, meaning that you can learn to code in the popular PSP coding format with no experience necessary at any time in any place! ProgramLua has a whole host of Lua programming tutorials packed into a 6MB WinRaR archive just waiting to be sent to your PSP. It's all you need to get started and have your coding skills honed to perfection; who knows, your veins may be tinged with the blood of Dark_Alex, Fanjita, NJ, zx-81 and the rest of the more popular developers out there.

And it doesn't stop there, Access_Denied and Appleseed629 will continue to release upcoming add-ons and expansion packs for the program, enabling you to have a text editor and read downloaded tutorials from within the program. They will also upload new tutorials so that you can continue reading through series of tutorials so you're never short of reading material. ProgramLua has been made into 1.0 and 1.5 EBOOTS so you don't even have to have Lua Player installed on your PSP to run it.

No need to pierce your skin and look for the coder's blood, just give this program and go and start learnin'.

screen1

Appleseed629 is in charge of the website PSPNetwork. For the past months, he's been looking for someone to help him put up the site's official digital magazine (DigiMAG). Unfortunately, no one was available to extend him a lending hand. But determination can really make people do wonders: even after a seven-month delay, Appleseed629 now steps forward with Session 1 of PSPNetwork DigiMAG.

Since this is the first release and since it's pretty much a one man-show for now, PSPNetwork DigiMAG (and the next few sessions) will have few missing pages. But with jampacked news - release of GTA CheatDevice v1.0d, firmware 2.71, the 2.5/2.6 firmware exploit, the official 2.5/2.6 downgrader (which is THE hottest news around), and so much more - plus a cover story on Metal Gear, and wallpapers of the Queen of MySpace Christine Dolce, I bet you won't really notice the "lacking pages", as Appleseed629 calls 'em.

screen2screen3

This DigiMAG will be an ongoing monthly release. Since the said mag doesn't stop at PSP, the author promises a good manga entitled Deathwish. The manga, which will be out on Session 2, will revolve around highschool teenage boy Ryuk who is out to set revenge on the man who murdered his family. Deathwish, says Appleseed629, will have "lots of action, violence," and more.

If you liked PSPNetwork DigiMAG Session 1 and would like to contribute to the next releases, Appleseed629 would appreciate the help -  just drop him a note at pspnetworkonline@gmail.com. Or if you'd rather be on the sidelines yet would still want to help out in any way possible, leave your comments, suggestions, and constructive criticisms on the comments section.

Thanks Appleseed629 for the heads up!
