Hideo Kojima Hints at a New, Authentic MGS

In news that should surprise exactly no one, the series producer confirms that another “stealthy” Metal Gear game will eventually be released.

There’s been a lot of Metal Gear Solid talk recently, what with rumors of MGS5 and the VGA unveiling of the trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (dumbest title of all time). While the first game has been confirmed to still be in the theoretical phase, and the second isn’t exactly a follow-up to any other Metal Gear game, fans of the main franchise will be happy to learn that they will eventually get their wish – a new Metal Gear game based on stealth and cunning.

Happy, but not surprised. Everyone knows that Metal Gear Solid 5 will come out someday, though Hideo Kojima’s cryptic quote only indicates that a sequel is coming sometime in the future. It’s about as cagey as a response can be, but Kojima likely needs to play this close to the chest until he has something official to announce.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is not a part of the main MGS canon, and is intended to simply be looked upon as a fun spin-off. Kojima noted that the original vision for that specific game was pretty close to what Platinum Games has come up with, so hopefully that will calm some of the hardcore fans unsure about where exactly their franchise is heading.

In the meantime, look for Metal Gear Solid 5 somewhere at some time. At least we know it’s coming, right?

Kojima Prod talks the 're-imagining' of MGS 1 in HD

We just might be seeing Metal Gear Solid 1 in HD in the future, thanks to Kojima Productions' desire to make it so. Creative producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana declared this, speaking with Eurogamer at E3 earlier this week.

The original title of the classic franchise did not make it to the cut of the HD collection coming out later, and the producer explained that it was because game one is just too old.

"Obviously, we wanted to include it and make it a complete collection," he said. "However, as you know, Metal Gear Solid 1 was for the PSone. It has a very, very low polygon count."

He furthered, "While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn't have that much meaning to us. We're doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can't really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it's very dated at this point."

The limitations may be keeping them from fully embarking on an HD-fication of MGS1 right onw, but he reassures that they would want to get it done at some point in time.

"If we were going to do Metal Gear Solid 1 we'd want to take more time with it. Not just up-res the textures, not just make things look pretty and polished, but go back and tweak some of the gameplay, tweak the story to update things and do it properly. Not just a re-master but a re-imagining almost.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection was recently confirmed for the PS3 and Xbox 360, which is set to include the HD versions of MGS 2, 3 and Peace Walker. The other MGS title waiting in the wings is Rising, and Kojima is promising "big news" on it come Winter.

We're not making MGS: Rising - Platinum Games

Fans totally missed out on Metal Gear Solid: Rising at the E3 event this year. Everything's being kept under a tight lid, and now we have Platinum Games denying they have any involvement with the game.

Company producer Atsushi Inaba addressed the issue earlier, saying, "I am aware of the rumors that says [Devil May Cry and Bayonetta Hideki] Kamiya is working on Rising. It's not true."

He stressed, too, for good measure that they are not working on the game at all. Just a couple of days back, Kojima has reassured that although MGS: Rising was a no-show at E3, there will be "big" news coming this Winter in relation to the game.

Everything's still shrouded in mystery as even Raiden's voice actor has revealed that he himself is unsure if he'll even be reprising his role in the franchise.

MGS: Rising "big" news coming this Winter

Don't feel all too bad if Metal Gear Solid: Rising won't be making an appearance at this year's E3. Konami president Shinji Hirano has confirmed anyway that they will have something "big" to reveal by winter this year regarding it.

In a recent video interview with Hirano for G4TV, he made the announcement to obviously appease the awaiting fans. "The reason why we didn't mention information on Rising at this moment is because we are making something big, and that is coming for this winter season. So please everybody, expect to see some news for Rising this winter season."

No doubt about it, people will definitely be waiting for this winter. Back in April, details were supposedly leaked out on the game. Last month, the voice actor for Raiden expressed uncertainty about reprising his role for the latest iteration of the famed franchise.

Konami may have been super tight-lipped about details on Metal Gear Solid Rising, but that's not about to keep rumors from spilling out.

The latest batch of rumors have quite a bunch of good ones too, such as the following:

MGS Rising:

Uses a tweaked MGS4 Engine

Plays quicker than previous titles

Uses an upgraded cover system from MGS4

Spot-On Audio, though quite a bit reused from MGS4.

These claims are from Gamespot member Kolokovitchk, who recently boasted that he'd gotten chums with some of the developer team, thanks to his "line of work". They must have gotten super close, or he must hold a really high position in whatever his work is, because they invited him over to play the PC version.

The thing is, with all that detail he was able to observe, the only other way he could have come up with it was if he had a very vivid imagination. From Graphics to Gameplay/ Controls, even Sounds, he's got something to say about it.
