The newest multiMAN is expected to incorporate a new file manager called mmOS. No official release date has been posted but a changelog of the upcoming build has appeared. You know what that means.

Just a few days after Maxis hinted at a big GDC announcement, it looks like their surprise has been outed.
It’s been a while since we last saw the SimCity franchise. The last game in the series, SimCity Societies, launched in 2007 to mixed reviews. Since then, Maxis has remained mum on whether it would be revisiting the series. Until, of course, last week, when EA hinted that the company had an enormous reveal planned for this year’s Game Developers Conference.
No information was given on what Maxis might have up its sleeve, but most people immediately began to assume that a new SimCity was on the table. And, it turns out, they may have been right.
Thanks to some scanned images from a German magazine, we now have a few details and screenshots/concept art from what could be SimCity 5. The game will take place 20 years after other iterations of the franchise, and will feature more flexible city designs that don’t depend so much on blocks. The game will also feature a new graphics engine and – gasp – multiplayer in the form of global leaderboards.
Here’s some of the shots and concept art, courtesy of NeoGaf:
Are you ready for another SimCity?

Germany Unbans Quake
Hang on, I'm looking up...what's German for too little too late?
The classic id software game Quake has finally become available to play in Germany for the first time in almost a decade and a half. The amazing FPS was developed sometime between Theme Hospital and Half Life 1 and Germany thought it was a good idea to protect the entire country from it's frightening blocky embrace by banning it outright.
The decision came after August when the other famous id software shooters, Doom and Doom 2 were released from the Kraken-like prison of being apart of Germany's large selection of banned games. Whilst the game was a bit of tech wizardry back in 1996, the 3D engine was fanastically rendered and actually helped shape the way we play games today, as the original Team Fortress mod was on the Quake Engine.
According to Heise Online, game publishers can request that their games be removed after a minimum of ten years from the Youth Media Endangerment list. Recently added to that list was the 2011 release of Dead Island, so Germans will probably see that come out in what, 2021? It's not worth it, Germans, not heaps anyway.
Other than possibly games like RapeLay, I feel that banning media unless it's particularly harmful is wrong and ridiculous in this age of internet. If people want something, they're gonna find anyway or means to get it. I wonder how many German people have played Quake. I remember a great friend of mine telling me when he went to an internet café in Germany and he was asked for ID after slamming down some Euros, he laughed so hard initially then he saw how serious the guy behind the counter was and slipped away.

Ten years ago, Microsoft took a chance by stepping into a market with zero credibility. It seems to have worked out.
On November 15, 2001, Microsoft’s Xbox console launched into a market dominated by the PlayStation 2 and captivated by the brand new GameCube. It’s easy to forget this now, but when Microsoft first started talking about developing a console, many industry insiders simply believed it couldn’t be done. There were plenty of people that predicted the Xbox would flop, and that Microsoft would end up taking heavy losses on the experiment.
Ten years later and we all know the story. Fueled by a selection of excellent launch titles (including the now-legendary Halo: Combat Evolved), the Xbox quickly raised its market share until it became a true force to be reckoned with. Xbox also brought us the first true connectivity for consoles through Xbox Live, which has matured into by far the best online service consoles currently have to offer.
The original Xbox was a monstrosity with controllers that felt like bricks, but there was something special about sitting down in front of the new system and catching a few rounds of Halo or Dead or Alive 3. With Microsoft’s powerful media engine behind it, Xbox has become synonymous with gaming and now sits among the three primary competitors for sales superiority.
There have been a few hits and misses along the way, but I think we as gamers can acknowledge the incredible impact the Xbox had on the industry, mostly for the positive. So happy birthday, Xbox. Thanks for all the great games.
What is your favorite original Xbox memory?

DICE ups the destructive ante with this action-packed trailer for Battlefield 3’s first DLC pack.
Battlefield 3 has only been out for about a week, but DICE and EA are already pushing the game’s first downloadable content pack, Back to Karkand. The DLC contains four maps from Battlefield 2, updated and imported into the Frostbite 2 engine developed for BF3.
The DLC pack promises new weapons and new maps, but most of all it promises an increase in the destructive damage you see across the Battlefield world. Check it out here:
If you pre-ordered Battlefield 3 or managed to pick up a Limited Edition by dumb luck (like me!), the DLC is absolutely free of charge and you’ll get it automatically on release date. If you didn’t, you’ll have to ante up $14.99 or 1200 MS points for the privilege of playing on repurposed maps. The pack also offers new “persistence,” which though I’ve been playing BF3 all week I can’t quite figure out. I think it has something to do with your ribbons?
Anyway, $15 for four maps seems pretty steep – weren’t we just furious about a similar price point for five MW2 maps? I guess this is the new future of downloadable content.
Are you going to purchase Back to Karkand? It drops sometime in December.

New screenshots and a bit more information from the developers give gamers an idea of what to expect from the level creator and its Steam Cloud support.
If you’ve ever tried to use the Portal 2 authoring tools that were released soon after the game, you’ve probably noticed that they have a pretty steep learning curve. While some gamers probably picked it up and figured it out, others, like myself, were immediately turned off by the complexity and decided to spend time doing something else. The new level creator, which will be part of Portal 2’s next free DLC pack, hopes to change all that and make level authoring something anyone can do.
Instead of working with a program that feels like software for level design professionals, Portal 2’s level creator will work much more like the Forge function found in recent Halo titles. Users will be able to drag and drop items into the environment and the whole thing is engineered to be as intuitive as possible. Players will also be able to upload their creations to the Steam Cloud, making them instantly available to anyone that wants to give them a try.
Here’s what Valve has to say on the official Portal 2 website:
“The simplified puzzle creator will let players easily carve out their creations in a straightforward but powerful way. They'll then be able to immediately upload those levels to their Steam Cloud and share them with other players online. We're also building a community site to host all of these player-created puzzles. The site will allow players to quickly find new puzzles and add them to their game, ready to play, with a single click. Players will then be able to rate the puzzles they've played, leave comments for puzzle creators, and follow creators they like.”
Sounds good to me. I’ve always loved Forge and if Valve can create a similar experience for Portal 2 fans, you can bet I’ll be involved.
Are you excited to build your own Portal test chambers?

Valve continues their legacy of awesome and free downloadable content by giving Portal fans a way to make their own levels right in the game engine.
The Portal 2 authoring tools have been available for some time, but if you’re like me you probably downloaded them, installed them, fired them up and then immediately shut them off once you realized how overwhelming it would actually be to build a level in the editor. I’ve always loved Halo’s Forge mode, but the authoring tools for Team Fortress and Portal have remained a little out of my league.
It looks like Valve is hoping to change all that, recently announcing that their next bit of downloadable Portal 2 content would include an in-game editor. Valve also indicated that you’ll be able to design levels for both single player and co-op, opening up the depth of design pretty far for amateur level builders. The thought of building a co-op Portal level is absolutely insane to me, but perhaps there are some passionate gamers out the
If you’re not into creating your own levels but still want to get some new challenges for your Portal gun, you’ll be able to play any levels created by users, as well as vote on them based on how much you enjoyed your experience. With a robust player community, this is sure to lengthen the shelf life of the Portal series dramatically – as long as there are new puzzles to solve, you’ll always have something to look forward to.
Are you going to experiment with the Portal 2 level editor? It drops early next year.

DICE and EA drop an all-new trailer featuring explosions, more explosions, and a whole lot of flying debris.
With Battlefield 3 a mere two weeks from launch, EA and DICE are likely going to mount a massive media assault. This assault apparently begins today, with the release of a brand new trailer for the upcoming FPS title, focusing on one of the main things that sets Battlefield apart from its competitors: destructible environments.
Check out the trailer:
DICE made a huge deal out of the new Frostbite 2 graphics engine, and it looks like they weren’t exaggerating when they said this was going to be one of the best-looking titles in the current generation. The explosions feel real, the crumbling buildings have weight, and the game looks about as realistic as any game I can think of made in the last few years.
Battlefield 3 hits shelves on October 28th, so expect a barrage of videos, commercials, trailers, gameplay clips and reviews. Along with Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3 is easily one of the largest titles of the year. I don’t think EA is going to meet their goal of outselling CoD, but they’re certainly going to crush anything else that comes out for the next couple of months.
Are you picking up Battlefield 3 on October 28th, or waiting for Modern Warfare?
