The company is on the defensive after one developer threw the handheld under the bus.
Sony is reeling after one game creator suggested that third party developers have canceled their Vita projects and moved to the 3DS due to the handheld’s poor performance in Japan. A report in a Japanese newspaper carried the anonymous quote, which stated, “Major Japanese companies are cancelling all projects intended for Vita and are changing development to 3DS.” Sony wants you to know that this simply isn’t the case.
Scott Rohde, the senior vice president of Worldwide Studios said that while he didn’t see the specific quote, it’s not unusual to find “exaggerated” claims like that regarding untested products. He also noted that he knew of many third party devs working “feverishly” on Vita titles, and that it would be impossible for any one person to definitively say what every Vita studio may or may not be doing.
Edge magazine points out that calling the claims an “exaggeration” indicates that a few studios have indeed jumped ship, just not to the numbers the anonymous source stated. Whatever’s going on over in Japan, you can bet it will echo through the western marketplace.
Vita is just a few short days away from release and if the western launch isn’t strong, the device could be relegated to Virtual Boy territory. Right now, the Vita is being outsold by the 3DS and even the original PSP in Japan – not a good indicator of success. Sony isn’t known for being upfront with its customers, so the truth of the matter is probably somewhere between the two quotes.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. What do you think the fate of the Vita will be?

With the original plan of abandoning the in-game story abandoned, Uncharted developer Naughty Dog is much happier about how the film is moving along.
When plans were first announced for an Uncharted movie, the attached director was listed as David O. Russell. Russell’s plan put many gamers on edge – he intended to start with a completely new story and avoid the story set up by the games almost entirely. He also failed to cast Nathan Fillion in the role, so as far as I’m concerned that should have a been a major warning sign.
Anyway, Russell’s gone now and Neil Burger, director of The Illusionist had signed on to replace him. Burger says they’re starting the script from scratch and heading back to the actual games for story inspiration. This new direction earned high marks of praise from Naughty Dog, the company that developed the Uncharted series, who at first were very concerned about where the film was headed.
Co-lead designer Richard Lemarchand had this to say when asked about the film by Eurogamer:
"The producers of the movie project have a lot of integrity, and they are keen to make the kind of film fans of Uncharted want to see made.”
There’s no word on whether Burger will be able to make casting changes to the film, as Mark Wahlberg is still signed on to play the lead role of Nathan Drake. Beyond this major failing, it’s good to see a video game film adaptation that’s at least somewhat concerned with staying true to its source material. After all, if a game is a massive success, there’s obviously something there that gamers already like.
Why mess with a good thing?

And here we have yet another Gears of War 3 news item. It shouldn't be surprising at this point anymore, especially because the game just launched today at midnight. Of course everyone's still going to be very hyped up about it.
Anyway, Microsoft wants to make sure they continue to open up opportunities for them to earn big bucks marketing the game by coming up with a new program, which should bring in "live" TV ads for Gears of War 3.
What this initiative will basically do is to air live players who are right at that moment playing the game, during your commercial breaks, while watching the tube. This way, TV viewers, like with any goal of advertising, will be lured to join in on the fun by buying the game.
UK can start expecting this kind of TV ads to come rolling in by September 23rd. If you're not too keen on the idea, though, no need to worry because they will only be running in until October 3rd, in six various 30-second TV spots.
It's a pretty cool idea, really, especially since Reality TV is all the rage now. I'm thinking the appeal - and eventual success - of this type of advertising will also be hinged on that new demand for individuals to see what other people are doing in their own lives, celebrity or not. A pretty rad and interesting concept, really.

Bioware is setting up open beta weekends for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and guess what? Original testers of the weekend beta for the game will be getting new invites for future beta weekends.
This was confirmed by community manager Stephen, saying that the developers felt the first batch of testers did not get to have the best environment for testing.
He explains thus: "Why are they being re-invited? Because we feel for a significant portion of those invited to test during beta testing weekend one, they did not have an optimal testing experience. As I mentioned before, we had some issues, including some people not receivign an invite, and others being unable to get the client in time because of issues with their acceptance of their invite.
Therefore, "With those factors in mind, we felt that because many people did not experience the game, it was worthwhile to re-invite everyone."
"Where does that leave everyone who hasn't been invited to test yet? First, I realize that we previously stated if people were invited to test, they would not be invited again. Although that policy may change in future, we're not changing it right now. However we feel that this situation is unique enough that we're re-inviting this weekend's testers. We expect this to be a one-off situation. I hope anyone who's waiting to get into testing realizes that if they had similar issues, we would 'do the right thing' by you too."
It sure is admirable that they're trying to correct what they felt was an unfair situation by allowing original beta testers to have another go at it. Just goes to show that they really are keen on making the game as perfect as it could get.
Meanwhile, Old Republic is confirmed to be allowing same-sex marriages, at least after its launch. You might want to make sure you get your pre-orders down pat, too, as we hear the launch copies will only be for a limited number.

EA's keen on expanding its business venture, with its latest project being EA Origins, their new download service. Now, a lot of people can't help but see it as some sort of competition for Valve's Steam. The suspicion rose all the more when Crysis 2 was taken out from the Steam Store.
EA maintains their ground, however, that they are not gearing for a fight. EA's David DeMartini tried to downplay the issue in a recent interview with Gamasutra, saying that, "Obviously when a big publisher comes up with their own application and launches a site where you can buy games directly, people immediately jump up to the conclusion that means they're going to exclude everyone else. "
"We believe in absolute freedom of choice to allow customers to buy through whatever retail outlet... as long as they're buying an EA game, we're delighted. We feel like if you buy the product with Origin, where we're going on a long-term basis is we'll integrate some of the Origin feature set into many of our highest-profile IP... but by all means if your preferred retailer is Best Buy or Direct2Drive or Impulse or Steam or Amazon... we're going to make our product available to you."
To further justify, he concludes with this statement: "I am absolutely not at this point saying, 'hey, it's Origin versus Steam.' It's never been about that."
Sounds like all should be fine and dandy, right? But if you look closely, it sounds rather forced. Take note of that operative "at this point" phrase. But of course they're looking to win over Steam, at least insofar as their catalogue is concerned.
They'll start with their own titles, and then most likely, they'll expand to other services and products. Question is, can they really handle the bull by its horns? The atmosphere of competition definitely is thick in the air. But frankly, one really can't take it against EA if they choose to go this path given that it's about the only course they have if they want EA Origins to take off. What better way to promote your own service but through your own existing brand and products, right?
Nonetheless, Steam remains to be the biggest online distributor in the market today. And while there doesn't seem to be any visible and solid threat from EA Origins, there most certainly is an impending one. With EA's vast catalogue of titles most likely to not be seeing Steam's light of day ever again, they will have to bank on their roster from other publishers still supporting their service.
Despite their denials of an existing competition, though, if you were to take sides, whose would you pick? EA Origins or Steam?

Ubisoft is sure not wasting anytime. After making the official announcement for their latest music-simulation game, Rocksmith, they've now sent out the debut trailer for the game, as well as some rockin' and rollin' promotional images.
Based on what we're seeing from the debut trailer right here, laying real guitars for the game definitely trumps out the now-outdated plastic ones. If you were a keen fan of the previous music games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band, now is the time to step up to the plate and headbang your way to the real thing. After all, it IS "the feeling of strings pushed against your fingertips" that make it cross beyond the play to the real.
After making the official announcement for their latest music-simulation game, Rocksmith, Ubisoft has now sent out the debut trailer for the game, as well as some rockin' and rollin' promotional images.Rocksmith still has an unspecified release date, but needless to say, this should be one of the more anticipated games to come out, if it does, this year.
Enjoy the debut trailer and the yummy promo images we've got here for you.

There have been quite a number of discontent fans raising issues about the seemingly unpolished state of Dragon Age II. Recently, we've also heard from people who worked on the project, such as musical composer Inon Zur, saying that the game was essentially rushed by EA.
To try and appease the disgruntled masses, BioWare is now cooking up a "beefier" DLC experience for the fans. Said lead designer Mike Laidlaw, "We're going to keep it very focused on your character [Hawke]."
It's good that they've been keeping abreast with consumer feedback, and that they're sincerely keen on rectifying this issue of discontent. "We'll be announcing more of that as we get closer to locking it down. A big focus for us is to make sure we get it right and we make sure it's, honestly, a beefier experience than the Origins DLC and one that introduces something new to the Dragon Age game."
While exerting the effort to make sure they please most, if not all, of the players with their DLC line-up for Dragon Age II, Laidlaw also expressed his reservation about the rating system for DLCs.
"With DLC it's tricky: what exactly constitues a DLC 9/10?" he asked. "It's actually hard to say because we've only seen very few examples."
Via []
He furthered, "For me, the core goal of DLC is to deliver an experience that integrates very smoothly with the game, one that feels like it works no matter when I'm playing so I don't have to start a brand new game.
I want to be able to load a save near the end or almost the end. And I want to feel like if I've done stuff in the DLC then it does matter; be it loot or experience or knowledge or information or something new that I saw - a new creature or something - those are all the kinds of things you want to see in downloadable content, because what they do is enrich the overall tapestry, which again ties to our ideas that you are playing as Hawke - your character and your followers have that same consistency all the way through."
They don't have a "specific" time, however, for the arrival of the new add-ons, saying that they'll still have to evaluate the matter.

At the Game Developers Conference, Sucker Punch was in attendance, tagging along with them no other than Cole MacGrath himself. At their presentation, Sucker Punch revealed that PS3-exclusive inFamous 2, published by Sony, will be featuring a mission creator. That should be great for those who have the "if-I-could-I-would-have-done-this-for-this-level" complex.
At the Game Developers Conference, Sucker Punch was in attendance, tagging along with them no other than Cole MacGrath himself. At their presentation, Sucker Punch revealed that the game will be featuring a mission creator. That should be great for those who have the "if-I-could-I-would-have-done-this-for-this-level" complex.
This spankin' brand new system essentially - and as the name simply implies - lets you build your own levels. With the mission creator, you can fill your level with your preferred enemies, construct the environment with more objects, plot out your own storyline and more. It will also be up to you what kind of challenges, or how much, you'll be putting in it, as well as the limiting of races, and assigning XP for quest completion.
The video presentation also pointed to a variety of missions, including the following: Defense, Escort, Search and Destroy, Survival, Shooting Gallery, Platforming, and Obstacle Course. That doesn't mean, however, that you will be only limited to these choices. As you are the creator of the mission, you can add in whatever that may catch your fance.
And since you will most certainly be working tirelessly at creating that perfect level, which you can show off to the rest of the gaming world, Sucker Punch has also come up with a way for you to publish your creation. As soon as you finish your level, you can then upload it to the map so other players can have a whack at it.
When it's up on the map, players can choose from among the choices of criteria auto-populating the map, according to their own preferences. When they've chosen, they just need to walk into the green cone of light, check out the information, and then get the party started. IGN notes, however, that "if a player hasn't cleared a story mission and a created mission uses an enemy or something from it, the player won't be able to access that created mission until he or she has unlocked that part of the story."
After the fun with your level, the player will then be able to give its rating of your work. Of course, the higher the rating, the more probability that more people would want to check out your home-made level. If you get enough good ratings, then you will find your content categorized under the "Famous" ranking. This simply means that your content will then be appearing in other players' games even with the filtering mechanism on in your game's criteria.
There's also another category, the "Sucker Punch Featured Content". This one means that it's not only other gamers who are appreciating your work, but that Sucker Punch itself is wowed by it that they are recommending it to other folks. That should be a big incentive for wanna-be developers to do their best, being lauded by a big-time dev company. Not only do you get Sucker Punch's two-thumbs up, this will also earn you the top spot on the created missions list as soon you load the game.
We bet you can't wait to get your hands on this mission creator feature. You just might be able to do that, too, what with the public beta for inFamous 2 now officially announced and dated.
Sucker Punch is slating it for an April outing, although they say that there will be more specific details on it that's yet to be announced come March 14th. If you're lucky enough to get in on the beta, you might want to warm up with your level creations as early as now. If your creation edges out the competition, you will be among the first wave of the Sucker Punch Featured Content. Beta creations will be uploaded only for a limited time, and will be subsequently deleted before inFamous 2 officially hits on June 7th. Still, it should be nice to see your work featured before anybody else's does.
Good luck, and we'll be keeping a keen eye out for more inFamous 2 beta details.

I am sure there have been several occasions when you have wished you could create a PDF version of the document you were working on using your iPad. But due to the unavailability of such applications on the app store, you have had to go through the longer process of transferring the document onto your Mac or PC and converting it. If this is the case then the Save2PDF app is exactly what you are looking for.
