Nintendo takes another step into the present with its own digital delivery service.
The Nintendo investor briefing held early this morning in Japan was chock full of good news for the company. In addition to predicting that the 3DS will finally hit profitability in 2012 and announcing an all-new Super Mario side-scroller, the company had quite the bombshell to drop – a digital delivery service called the Nintendo Network.
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president, offer up a few details on what gamers can expect from the new service. Expect the Communities system to return, which allows people who aren’t on each other’s friends lists to play together. There’s also full support for DLC, a feature on which Nintendo has been way behind the curve. You’ll also find a wide range of downloadable games, similar to the Nintendo eShop but more robust in both lineup and functionality.
All in all, it looks like Nintendo has finally realized that if it wants to stay competitive in the next console generation, it has to dramatically up its online game. The Wii’s online capabilities were decent, but friend codes and other unnecessary complexities dragged it down. Here’s hoping the new Nintendo Network will alleviate some of those problems and make the Wii U a more online-ready machine.

Contrary to previous reporting, it looks like the PS Vita will support more than one PSN account. Sort of.
Earlier this week, we reported on the news that Sony would be limiting the Vita to one PSN account. The decision sparked a bit of anger in the gaming community, but it’s not much different from the PSP’s current setup and overall wasn’t that huge a deal. However, Sony has recently made a statement with the intent of clarifying some of the news that’s been flying around – namely, that Vita will in fact support more than one PSN account.
But before you get too excited, there is one catch: you’ll need a separate memory card for each PSN account you wish to use. According to Sony, your account bonds to your memory card – not to your device. If you have more than one memory card, you’ll be able to bond separate accounts to each card and swap back and forth without resetting your system. If you have only one memory card, you’ll need to perform a factory reset every time you want to change accounts.
It’s not the best use of multiple accounts, but it’s certainly better than what we thought we were dealing with. This way, if you have one PSN account for yourself and one for your children, you can save each account to separate memory cards and switch back and forth as you play.
Assuming you want to shell out for more than one of Sony’s ridiculous memory cards, that is.
What do you think of Vita’s PSN support?

When Sony announced the PlayStation Vita, UK was apparently left out of the pricing loop. Reports now however are surfacing that their new gem of a handheld could cost at an almost whopping US$ 400.
A CVG source "close to the company" tipped in, saying he was "very confident" that the PS Vita carrying WiFi will retail in UK "somewhere close to £235." With the conversion rate in place today, that translates to US$ 386.
The US, meanwhile, is getting the same WiFi model for US$ 249, while the 3G model is priced at US$ 299. It's always been a curious thing how the regional pricing works, but in this case, if this price be true, then it's really going to be burdensome for the UK gamers to be shelling out an additional 60% compared to their US counterparts.
Since Sony has yet to officially comment on the matter, however, we can still keep our fingers crossed that it could still go lower.
A slew of heavy-hitting titles have already been confirmed for the PlayStation Vita, including Street Fighter X Tekken and Virtua Tennis 4.

The speculations never end. Even after Sony has officially unveiled their new PSP model, the NGP, it's still wrapped around with controversies. What everyone's wondering about now, of course, is just how much it will cost.

The speculations never end. Even after Sony has officially unveiled their new PSP model, the NGP, it's still wrapped around with controversies. What everyone's wondering about now, of course, is just how much it will cost.
It's a fact that Sony most probably sealed the fate of the PSP Go to failure with the launch price they gave it. Are they going to make a repeat of that history?
So says Sony, that won't be the case this time around. Talking to tech news sites earlier, the company, through SCE president Shuhei Yoshida, made it known that they have learned their lesson from that past experience. It wasn't the easiest way to learn, it yes, but the important thing is that they did.
Said Yoshida, "There's no point putting everything you want into a device and doing the math later. We always had the price and consumer in mind. We had to sell something that people could buy."
Recently, we had rumors swirling around that the device would be pegged at a US$ 299 price point. That's about US$ 50 more than direct competitor Nintendo 3DS. As it stands, however, that remains to be a rumor because Sony has yet to officially confirm how much you'd have to shell out for the NGP.
The name itself is only temporary, too, as a matter of fact. Said the company president, the NGP is just a placeholder title, a codename they've dubbed it with. "Well, NGP is the codename we've used since 2008. We will announce the final name of the console sometime this year."
In the meantime, we'll just have to keep on speculating, it looks like it. We'll be keeping you up to speed on everything PSP2-related.

ff-thumbThe first two Final Fantasy games are probably counted among the most remade and/or re-released titles in Square Enix's whole game library. If you didn't manage to catch the PSP remakes, you can get them via the EU PSN soon.
