Apple celebrates 25 billion apps downloaded through its iTunes Store.
Today is a very special day for Apple, and for Apple lovers across the globe. The company has just reported that as of today, over 25 billion apps have been downloaded through the app marketplace built into the iTunes Store.
So what was the lucky 25 billionth app? Why, a game, of course! The free version of Where’s My Water, a puzzle title developed by Disney, took the honors. The downloader? An anonymous user in China. Apple should at least send the dude an iTunes gift card.
Since the creation of the iTunes Store, Apple has paid over $4 billion to iOS developers. Not too shabby.
Have you contributed to Apple’s ridiculous app sales? I certainly have.
Oh, and you can check out Where’s My Water right here: Where’s My Water?

And the best part? It’s free! Sort of.
Skyrim is a massive game. With over 300 hours of gameplay (before you count the infinite-quest generator), it’s safe to assume that even the most seasoned RPG gamers will need a little help tracking down everything. Prima, a noted name in the world of game guides, has just dropped a very handy tool for doing just that.
The new Prima interactive Skyrim world map is available on any device that runs on iOS 5, and is 100% complete. Every quest, retrievable item, dungeon and secret is laid bare on the map—for a price, of course.
You’ll get the world map and maps of each of Skyrim’s nine holds with the app, but if you want detailed maps (over 1,000 points of interest, dungeons, etc.), you’ll have to rely on in-app purchases. You can also add your own points of interest to the map, which supports zooms up to 3200%.
The full app, with every dungeon and point of interest, will run you $10. Not too shabby, especially when you consider that a printed game guide usually lands around $20.
What do you think of digital game guides?

Zynga is known for copy/pasting its games, but this time the original developer isn’t sitting idly by.
Zynga has quickly become a powerful force in the world of social and mobile gaming, though recent rumors indicate the company could be on shaky financial footing. Zynga is known for its massively popular casual games, but many gamers may not know that the company is also notorious for stealing those games from established indie developers.
Zynga has faced lawsuits for both FarmVille and Mafia Wars, which are Zynga’d-up clones of MyFarm and Mob Wars, respectively. And the company continues its copy/paste development strategy without shame, this time cloning the official 2011 iPhone Game of the Year, TinyTower.
NimbleBit called Zynga out with a passive-aggressive infographic, one that wishes the company luck but showcases the many ways in which their concept was ripped off. Check it out:
What do you think of Zynga’s cloning strategy? It works in terms of sales, but it isn’t earning them any support in the gaming community.
Oh, if you want more info on Zynga’s long history of theft, check out this excellent article on Edge.

Having trouble with a certain fight in Star Wars: The Old Republic? Dance it out!
In news that comes directly from the “how in the world did this get overlooked” file, it appears that savvy Old Republic players have picked up on a hilarious and game-breaking glitch in the popular MMORPG. Namely, that dancing while in combat makes your player character completely immune to damage.
The bug isn’t necessarily a god cheat – you’ll have to activate the dancing emote at just the right moment to make it work. However, if you happen to pull it off, you’ll interrupt the targeting of any enemy scoping you out for the duration of your dance. Oops!
It’s amazing that this bug somehow made it into the finished version of SWTOR, and you can bet that Bioware will be getting it patched post-haste. In the meantime, any mention of the bug is being removed from the official SWTOR forums; Bioware claims this is just standard operating procedure (they don’t want players spreading glitches).
SWTOR is still young, so there’s bound to be a few weird bugs. Every MMO has them – what is your favorite legendary MMORPG glitch?

RPG fans rejoice, for one of the greatest of all time is coming directly to your smartphone.
Chrono Trigger is one of those games that has a near-perfect legacy. Simply mention the title to any gamer that lived through the Super Nintendo phase of the industry and you’ll see wistful look come over them, as they think fondly on their hours spent traveling through time and battling ridiculous foes.
If you haven’t revisited Chrono Trigger in a while, you’ll have the opportunity very soon. And you won’t even have to haggle with the guy at your local resale shop – the game is being released to both iOS and Android through the upcoming Square Enix marketplace.
Naturally, the game is being updated to accommodate the touch-screen controls of modern phones, and we’ll just have to wait and see how effectively the game can be adapted. Other Square Enix ports, such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy I-III, have been sort of acceptable but sort of not, with the controls mostly doing what you need but still feeling a touch sloppy.
There’s no release date for Chrono Trigger as of yet, all we know is that the game is targeted for release sometime in the next couple of months. The iPhone version is expected in December, with Android version to follow.
Are you ready to hang out with Crono again?

The beautiful iOS RPG was a smash hit, but will its visuals hold up when displayed on a screen larger than a few inches?
Infinity Blade, built on the Unreal Engine, was an incredible example of the possibilities of mobile gaming. Its rich colors, complex storyline and hours of gameplay led it to become an addition to millions of iPhone home screens, as gamers flocked to what many considered the first true gaming experience for iOS gamers.
Thanks to the huge success the game has experience on iOS platforms, it looks like a whole new group of gamers are getting a chance to explore its fantasy world. Epic Games has just announced that Infinity Blade FX will start showing up in arcade form at Dave and Busters locations around the world on October 28th.
The game boasts many of the same features seen in the original iOS version, with a single player mode and multiplayer challenges. There’s no word on whether you’ll be able to use your iOS device in sync with the arcade game to create a sort of augmented iPhone experience, but either way you’ll be able to jump directly into the story via the in-house arcade machine.
In other Epic Games news, Infinity Blade 2 is coming exclusively to the iPhone 4S later this year, with the launch tentatively scheduled for December 31st. We’re keeping a close eye on Epic’s news feed, so we’ll let you know if anything changes.

Level-5’s Layton Brothers Mystery Room takes an early change in the development cycle and heads to iPhones and iPads in lieu of the Nintendo DS.
If you like solving puzzles and you own a Nintendo DS, you’re probably familiar with the Professor Layton series. In the games, you play as Layton and his assistant, exploring towns and finding clues while solving a greater general mystery. You also meet your fair share of jerks that refuse to help you unless you can work out some sort of puzzle for them, a hilarious but often frustrating hallmark of the series.
Level-5 had recently announced that a Layton spin-off, Layton Brothers Mystery Room, was being developed for the Nintendo DS handheld. The game is similar in style to the rest of the Layton series, but is instead presented in a full 3D environment. You’ll have to explore various rooms, investigating the clues you find to work out what happened.
Now the company has announced that instead of targeting the Nintendo DS, Layton Brothers Mystery Room is instead heading to you iOS system. There’s no real clarification on which systems will be compatible, but I’m hoping it won’t be limited to the iPhone 4S, since my 3GS is still trucking along and I don’t want to buy a new phone just to catch up with Professor Layton.
Either way, it makes sense that the Layton series would head to mobile platforms; the interface has never been much more than tapping on interesting thing and figuring out what they do.
Anyone excited to bring a little mystery around on their phones?

Boxing's Pound for Pound king, Manny Pacquio is also venturing into the gaming industry. After that less than eclectic fight against underdog Shane Mosley, we now get reports that he has, in fact, a new RPG coming out.
Abu Dhabi Media's Karkadann Games announced in Las Vegas over the weekend the upcoming release of the new action adventure title, Pound for Pound Volume 1, featuring no other than the man himself, Manny Pacquiao.
"Created for a casual gaming audience, and developed for PC, mobile, iPad, iPhone and Faceboo, Pound for Pound Volume 1 takes gamers through narrative arcs, intense action and addictive game play, as Manny, the martial arts action hero battles through the underground world of heinous villains on a mission of justic.
Gamers not only wield Manny's legendary combination of pummeling punches, with his lightning fast hands, but also a full arsenal of kicks and martial arts weaponry. Additionally, players will be able to customize and develop Manny into the ultimate mixed martial arts defender to fight hundreds of the most infamous enemies on a high-stakes fight."
I don't know about you, but this press release appears to be confused. Since when did Pacquiao become a "mixed martial arts defender"? Okay, suspending my disbelief, maybe that's how they wanted him to turn out in the game. But that's too much of a disconnect to the reality as we currently know it.
They did get it right, however, when they said that Manny is "a great athlete and complete fighter and provide an entertaining game experience for millions of hism fans."
Pound for Pound Volume 1 is slated to come out this summer.

Chaos Rings was once dubbed as the number one selling iPhone RPG. Now, it just might have a competitor for that historic spot, and by no less than its own sequel.
Square Enix has just released the first ever trailer for Chaos Rings Omega, the second title in the franchise, but is the prequel to the first game.
Chaos Rings Omega is set to come out this month, and as early as now, we're alrady hearing reports that a next title, Chaos Rings II, will be coming shortly sometime in the future.
Oh, while the video is obviously very dramatic, be forewarned that as it is a Japanese iOS RPG, it is, of course, in Japanese. But do enjoy, nonetheless.

iff2That iPhone you have came at quite a price, so it's a darn good thing that you can play games on it. Not just the little games they pack in for free, you can play real games, like those you used to play on dedicated gaming systems. Why am I telling you all this? Because Square Enix is bringing two more Final Fantasy titles to the iPhone.
