DS Homebrew: DeSmuME SVN r4113

A new update is out and about for DeSmuME, the open source NDS emulator for Linux, Mac OS and Windows.

As you know already, this brew supports save stats, as well as lets you increase your screen size. It also supports filters so that you can better have improved image quality.

The microphone support is also now available for Windows and Linux ports, on top of the direct video and audio recording.

For this version's changelog, R4113 has the item: windows: fixup filter compilation with gcc #3414832.

DS Homebrew: Sonic Screwdriver

Who says you can't have your iPhone fun on the Nintendo DS, too? Thanks to Buck_7, we now have the iPhone application, Sonic Screwdriver, on Nintendo's classic handheld.

Really, the app may not seem to do much for you, but if you are a Dr. Who fan, then you'll know the significance of this little gadget, especially if you've been following the series from the start.

Anywhow, here's what Buck_7 had to say about this development: "Hello all! TO the best of my abilities, I have recreated the Sonic Screwdriver! Which is a iPhone app. I took pictures using an iPhone and edited them to make them DS compatible. Have fun!"

DS Homebrew: Cannon Fodder DS v1.0

Canon Fodder DS v1.0 is a homebrew adaptation of the game with the same title, by Sensible Software and Virgin Interactive for Amiga, back in 1993.

This homebrewed version here for the DS is then actually ported off from the Wii Version, and now fit to make it more enjoyable and adept for the DS platform.

If you were a fan of the original Amiga title, then you'd be glad to know that all 71 maps, and 23 missions, have been squeezed in this tiny bundle of brewed goodness for your enjoyment.

Also, the original graphics of the Amiga version has been retained as well.

Canon Fodder DS v1.0 is a homebrew adaptation of the 1993 Amiga game.

DS homebrewer HB Filou has come out with an adaptation of Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system for the Nintendo DS.

True, not too many people may be impressed with the OS, considering the many bugs that has plagued it throughout the years, but that shouldn't keep you from enjoying an adapted version of it on your handheld, right? As long as it doesn't bring on the bugs, too, I guess.

This here is the first release, and we probably should be expecting some more updates to come in the future. For now, though, here are the features included in this release:

Features:

Test of buttons (A, B, X, Y - R, L - Start, Select)

FAT system: play, record and edit a text with keyboard

Change wallpaper: 3 Themes available

Position Held: As windows, turned off the system (by the console)

DS Homebrew: Space Impakto v2.0

DS homebrewer relminator is out with a brand new version of his DS homebrewed game, Space Impakto v2.0.

In case you haven't checked this out yet, Space Impakto DS is a fun shoot 'em up game, which techinically is a SHMUP.

There's a bevy of changes in v2.0, so you might want to start checking them out now:

Migrated code to latest DKP toolchain

CPU controlled demo(wait 20 seconds in the main menu to activate)

AutoBombs "pick your poison" version.

When you use autobomb, you won't have bomb powerups at the end of the stage.

AutoBomb State is saved for future gameplay.

Saves are now incompatible with older versions.

Player name is saved for future gameplay as Cyan suggested.

Button Configuration is saved future gameplay.

Loop and Stage is displayed on the lower right corner.

Cheat c0d3z!!! Score is limited to 50k. Ask Wasim how.

Score bonus system changed

Demo and Replay games skip the intermission as suggested.

Included some bragging rights in the splash screen for kicks.

DS Homebrew: DSTELNET Alpha v2.0

A new version of DSTELNET was released by developer ILOVEPIE, upping it to v2.0.

This brewed application for the DS basically lets you connect to Telnet servers straight from your DS. Now, in case you're not entirely too sure what a Telnet is, it's a user command and a TCP/IP protocol used to access remote computers. This, therefore, gives access to another person (administrator or otherwise) to someone else's computer remotely.

To be more blunt about it, if you have to ask what a Telnet is, then most probably you don't need this app.

Nonetheless, ILOVEPIE has got some developments for us, and he does note that "unlike the first alpha you can now go wherever you like and by reckoning it is the first standalone telnet client for the DS (previously your only option was DSlinux)."

Do note, though, that the devs have yet to check it out "against any our favourite MUDs yet but it does seem to have issues with wireless security and non standard ports." Hey, it's just in the alpha stage, anyway, so really, there shouldn't be any rush, right?

As for the change in this version:

with the URL or IP of the telnet server you wish to connect to…

DS Homebrew: Diablo 2, Sorceress v1.0.4

Diablo 2 Sorceress is le Rodeur's DS homebrew adaptation of the famous Diablo 2 title.

This brew, serving as a tribute to the famed PC game, will have you playing "as a sorceress that must strive an onslaught of zombies." But of course, everyone's into zombies nowadays.

The game is still a work in progress, but the team would most definitely love to hear your feedback on it.

In the meantime, do check out the implemented changes for version 1.0.4 right here:

Thought you've seen the last of Battleship DS? You've thought wrong. Homebrew developre vampire0123 is back with a new versin, 0.8.

The naval action continues to thicken with new and improved controls for that ship-sinking abilities. All you need now is to actually have a decent strategy and you're good to go.

Here's what's different for this version of Battlefield v0.8, as per the developer's notes:

"The game has a menu with the controls explained in the sub-menu ... Controls.

News:

Added a different indication when a boat sank.

The buttons to rotate the ships are now offering to L and R."

All in all, it sounds like development is still going strong for vampire0123. Here's to more battleships to be sunk, and to more winning streaks to be had!

Morshu the MMMMMM v1 is blabla's homebrewed action game for the Wii. Here, you play the character of Morshu from Link: Faces of Evil.

This is just version 1, but already, the developre warns that this game "contains strong language!" And since it's coming out in French apart from the English version, you might have to say "Pardon my French".

Anyway, here are the things you need to know about Morshu MMMMMM. First, the scenario, which blabla has condensed in bulleted form:

Scenario:

The Morshu MMMMMM is an action game where you have control of Morshu Link: faces of evil.

Morshu and his followers seized the island of Korida to make money

Ganon and wants to kill him.

It sends Gwonam to capture the king but on his way, he finds Morshu.

He wants to kill him but he forgets that only the king can kill him.

A Gwonam to kill you and save the king!

Controls:

Use the arrow keys to move.

Press B to roll the bomb.

Press A to send a bomb into the air.

WiXP, first and foremost, is a homebrewed shell by ametller124, based on the Windows XP theme, specially made for the DS.

The developer shares that this brew was originally designed as a joke to a friend, but eventually, it became a full-fledged project, sporting an MP3 player, an image viewer, as well as two games: 3D Pong and Tetris.

All in all, not bad for a joke!

Here are the important things to know about this brew:

Applications and Games:

Music Player: Great application in which we can hear the songs that comes by default WiXP.

Viewer gifs: One of the applications that make it a great homebrew, since we can see several gifs that brings aplicacón default.

3D Pong: One of two games. Is in 3D and have a single player mode for two players and one (sharing the same console), what more could we ask?

Tetris: Perhaps the game needs to improve within this shell, because the chips are not erased when get a line, but certainly still has the classic essence of life.

Stylus: Moving the cursor.

Pad: Move Cursor / Move pong paddle (player 1) / Move Tetris piece.
