Nintendo apparently doesn’t want to risk offending its customers.
Indie Dev Edmund McMillen confirmed via Twitter earlier today that the Nintendo 3DS eShop would officially be declining to host his latest game, The Binding of Isaac. Citing “questionable religious content,” Nintendo has elected to dump the game from its eShop lineup.
Here’s McMillen’s tweet in full:
“Attention: After a long internal debate Nintendo has decided NOT to allow the Binding of Isaac on the 3ds. :(“
He continued, quite hilariously:
“As many assumed the reasons were due to the games "questionable religious content". Thank GOD Steam exists!”
The Binding of Isaac has moved over 450,000 copies on PC, and this silly controversy will likely spur more sales than the game would have gained with a quiet eShop release. Still, it’s an odd decision on the part of Nintendo and a bad precedent to set in terms of censorship.
What do you think of Nintendo’s decision? Should game companies choose which games you can play, or should the choice be left up to the consumer?
[Gamasutra]

Well, easier for new players anyway.
EVE Online has been likened to playing a spreadsheet in space, and as someone who regularly logs in to adjust training queues and dart around low-sec, I’d have to agree. Almost every screenshot I have of the game shows my ship buried in menus and sub-menus, the real meat of the game. In fact, EVE Online isn’t so much a space simulator as it is an economy simulator—just about as boring as you’d imagine.
One of the main problems with EVE is that it’s incredibly difficult for new players. Thousands of people have created new pilots in the MMO, only to turn the game off and never return thanks to the enormously steep learning curve. In the past, CCP has attempted to make entry a bit easier with tutorials and re-designs, but nothing has really made the starting experience all that different.
CCP is on the move again, however, and its latest developer blog indicates the company is taking another run at the early player experience. Claiming they’re looking to make the first few days and weeks as fun as the more complicated stuff, EVE’s devs are focusing on simplified teaching mechanics and other methods to bring players into the game more rapidly.
We’ll have to see how that plays out. At the moment, the first hours of EVE are still very complicated and often frustrating, even for experienced gamers. Hopefully CCP can make it a bit more interesting and easy to grasp. The main issue, of course, is that EVE is a complex game, and players will at some point need to come to terms with that.
Are you an EVE player? How do you feel about the starting player experience?
[Massively]

mfeve1Well, easier for new players anyway.

Rayman Origins coming to PC DRM Free
Ubisoft have learnt from their past mistakes and making one of the best platformers and coolest games ever made DRM-free later this year.
Rayman Origins surprised everyone late last year with it's release seemingly from nowhere, it turned out to be one of the most colourful beautiful and friendly games I have ever seen, played or spent money on and if you have a PS3 or 360, I suggest you do the same.
Ubisoft announced that the Platformer will be out on March 30th on PC and in better news, all retail copies of the game will be shipped with no DRM. Digital versions will be saddled with whomever they are distributed through (i.e. Steam). So yes the very same Ubisoft who once said that "always on DRM"and regularly blames piracy for their lack of PC games, are sending a game out in the real world to deal with the pirates and hackers and evil people of the internets.
I think it's a bold move from Ubisoft to show they can make a game, have it be successful and (hopefully) port it successfully to the PC and still make a bundle off it. I think the game would really suit being on the PC, as more and more of my favourite platformers are turning up on there. Also with controller support from classic USB controllers and for those new-gen people who still want to use their 360, go right ahead.
The PC specs were also released and are as follows:
Here are the announced system specs:
Minimum configuration
OS:  Windows® XP SP3 / Windows Vista® SP2 / Windows® 7 SP1
Processor: Intel Pentium IV 3.00 Ghz or AMD Athlon64 3000+ @ 1.8 Ghz
Memory: 1 GB Windows XP / 1.5 GB Windows Vista – Windows 7
Graphics: 128 MB DirectX®9 / Radeon X600XT or GeForce 6800GT
DirectX®: DirectX 9.0c or higher
Sound: DirectX 9.0-compliant sound card
Recommended configuration
OS:  Windows® XP SP3 / Windows Vista® SP2 / Windows® 7 SP1
Processor: Intel Core2Duo E4400 @ 2.00 Ghz or AMD Athlon64X2 3800+ @ 2.00Ghz
Memory: 2 GB Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7
Graphics: 256 MB DirectX®9 / Radeon HD 2600XT or GeForce 8600GT
DirectX®: DirectX 9.0c or higher
Sound: DirectX 9.0-compliant sound card
Rayman Origins was release for the 360, PS3 and Wii last year in November. In addition to the PC, the game is also headed to the Playstation Vita and Nintendo 3DS on February 14 and March 20 respectively. It looks like Ubisoft have all the bases covered and I do hope it pays off for them. More Rayman Origins, less of the Rabbids, I say!

Here come some of the first new games of 2012. Are any of them on your “must-buy” list?
Whew, the 2011 holiday season is finally over. We’re done with the crazy, “huge game every week for three months” schedule we’ve been living, and things are starting to slow down. Last week was practically barren when it comes to releases, and this week looks only marginally better.
Here’s this week’s edition of:
Gotham City Imposters
Xbox 360, PS3, PC
ESRB Teen
Monolith
Hip Hop King: Rytmik Edition
Nintendo 3DS
ESRB Pending
Cinemax
ZEN Pinball 3D
Nintendo 3DS
ESRB E
Zen Studios
Choplifter HD
Xbox 360, PS3, PC
ESRB Teen
InXile Entertainment
Conquer 2.0: Invasions of Pirates
PC
ESRB Pending
TQ Digital Entertainment
Well, there’s your games for the next week. Looks pretty sparse, with Gotham City Imposters being the only thing I’ve even heard of before today.
Are you planning on picking up any of these games?

Bethesda celebrates shipping over 10 million units of the expansive role-playing game, and setting a few records along the way.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is a pretty big deal. We knew that already, especially after watching it pass Modern Warfare 3 on the weekly UK sales charts and crash to the top of the pre-order list earlier this year. But it wasn’t really clear how big a deal the game is until today, when Bethesda confirmed that they have shipped over 10 million copies of their latest opus.
The parent company of Bethesda, ZeniMax Media, boasts that these numbers equal about $650 million in revenue. Sure, it’s not a billion in 16 days, but it’s certainly no small amount of cash. The game also broke records on Steam, with Valve’s Jason Holtman confirming that Skyrim is the fastest-selling game in the history of the digital distribution platform. It’s worth noting that ZeniMax’s revenue estimate assumes people will purchase every shipped copy of the game at full price.
Skyrim even managed to outstrip Modern Warfare 3 – by all other measures the largest entertainment product ever launched. Though Skyrim has been marred by bugs since release, most critics and gamers are giving it favorable reviews and the massive sales instill hope that developers may be more willing to work on huge, expansive projects.
The holiday season is still charging on, so it will be a few weeks before we find out where everyone landed. But look for Skyrim to have a sizeable impact on game sales this year – the one RPG in a sea of shooters. Here’s hoping this inspires more RPGs from other studios.
Did you pick up a copy of Skyrim already? Any complaints?

A job posting on the developer’s website leaks their upcoming Vita/PS3-exclusive.
Fresh from the rumor mill: Square Enix is developing an action-RPG title for the PS3 and PS Vita – one that involves airships. The story leaked earlier today when a couple of interesting job listings turned up for the company’s 1st Production Department – the section of Square Enix that works on Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts titles.
One of the listings describes the need for a “planner” that can design a player growth system and ability properties. Another requests someone that can create the “play elements” for an airship that navigates over a large world map. The genre is confirmed as “action-RPG,” and the listed hardware is Vita and PS3.
One interesting point in the listings page is the inclusion of the Unity engine. Square Enix is known for building their game engines from scratch, but a turn to Unity indicates they’re becoming increasingly accepting of third party solutions.
It’s worth noting that the listings do not specifically say they are for Square Enix positions, only that they are in reference to a game being developed by Square Enix’s 1st Production Department. The company could be outsourcing some tasks to a smaller developer or individuals, or they could be hiring new employees.
Either way, it’s safe to say whatever project is in development will be in development for some time to come.
What Square Enix game would you hope to see on Vita?
