Mass Effect 3 Action Figures to Include DLC

EA plans to include DLC download codes with series two of the Mass Effect action figure lineup.

Do you like Mass Effect? Do you like DLC? What about action figures? If you said yes to all three questions, then man have we got a deal for you. It looks like EA, the publisher behind Bioware’s upcoming space-RPG Mass Effect 3, has an interesting plan for delivering DLC to gamers: toys.

According to information posted by the Big Bad Toy Store, series two of the Mass Effect action figure series will come packaged with special codes, valid for special “in-game bonus content.” Every figure apparently comes with its own bit of DLC, so it’s safe to assume the updates are limited to weapons, armor and other small accessories.

Here’s a list of the figures coming in series two:

Miranda

Mordin

Garrus

Legion

There’s no information available on whether you’ll have to buy the toys to get this DLC, or if it will be made available to regular players without a penchant for plastic. In the meantime, it does seem to be a cool way to sell DLC – who wouldn’t want a mini Miranda on their desk?

Remember when Nintendo promised you some free games? Well, they’re officially on the way.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program, here’s some backstory: First, the Nintendo DS was released to the general public for the astounding price of eight million U.S. gold bars. After a couple of months of terrible sales, Nintendo opted to drop the price to a much more agreeable $169.99. And, to help soothe the minds of those that purchase the handheld at the original price point, the company promised to give every early-adopter ten free Game Boy Advance games.

The release of those games was delayed a couple of times while Nintendo got everything figured out, but they’ve officially announced a real-life release date as well as a list of the games to be released. Look for your Ambassador titles on December 16 – if you live in Japan or Europe. There has been no confirmation from Nintendo’s North American branch quite yet, but it’s safe to assume the games will launch on the same day unless we’re told otherwise.

Here are the ten games you can pick up on Friday:

• F-Zero

• Super Mario Advance 3

• The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

• Fire Emblem Seima no Kouseki

• Kirby & the Amazing Mirror

• Mario Kart Advance

• Mario vs. Donkey Kong

• Metroid Fusion

• Wario Land Advance

• Made in Wario

Pretty good titles, if you ask me. They could have given us ten terrible games, but instead seem to have dropped a “greatest hits” GBA list. Nice work, Nintendo.

DS Homebrew: DSTELNET Alpha v2.0

A new version of DSTELNET was released by developer ILOVEPIE, upping it to v2.0.

This brewed application for the DS basically lets you connect to Telnet servers straight from your DS. Now, in case you're not entirely too sure what a Telnet is, it's a user command and a TCP/IP protocol used to access remote computers. This, therefore, gives access to another person (administrator or otherwise) to someone else's computer remotely.

To be more blunt about it, if you have to ask what a Telnet is, then most probably you don't need this app.

Nonetheless, ILOVEPIE has got some developments for us, and he does note that "unlike the first alpha you can now go wherever you like and by reckoning it is the first standalone telnet client for the DS (previously your only option was DSlinux)."

Do note, though, that the devs have yet to check it out "against any our favourite MUDs yet but it does seem to have issues with wireless security and non standard ports." Hey, it's just in the alpha stage, anyway, so really, there shouldn't be any rush, right?

As for the change in this version:

with the URL or IP of the telnet server you wish to connect to…

DS Homebrew: Diablo 2, Sorceress v1.0.4

Diablo 2 Sorceress is le Rodeur's DS homebrew adaptation of the famous Diablo 2 title.

This brew, serving as a tribute to the famed PC game, will have you playing "as a sorceress that must strive an onslaught of zombies." But of course, everyone's into zombies nowadays.

The game is still a work in progress, but the team would most definitely love to hear your feedback on it.

In the meantime, do check out the implemented changes for version 1.0.4 right here:

WoopsiGFX is ant512's DS homebrew 2D graphics library, "derived from the Woopsi GUI framework, which he began last year.

As described by the developer himself, it "allows the developer to create and manipulate bitmaps using a comprehensive set of drawing tools. It includes an extensible font system for drawing text to bitmaps, and features support for packed monochrome and 16-bit fonts out of the box.

Version 1.4 features the following changes: It will probably be the last release of WoopsiGfx.

Changelog:

Animation::play() stops if there are no frames to play.

Animation::getCurrentFrame() returns NULL if there are no frames.

Animation::getCurrentBitmap() returns NULL if there are no bitmaps.

StringIterator::moveTo() ignores attempts to move to negative indices.

Improved use of DMA hardware.

WoopsiString::subString() passes the correct arguments to the WoopsiString constructor.

It seems that ant512 really is keen on dropping brew development altogether, because like EarthShaker DS, this is the "probably" the last release for this brew.

Min presents his brand new NDS homebrew, AnkRace. Basically, it's a race among rubber ducks, and you as the player will be placing your bet on which one will get through the water course first.

It's a lot like horse racing, actually, only, with rubber ducks. It might need some patience on your part, though, as they can seem pretty slow considering that it's a race. Anyway, here are the controls:

Left/Right - Select duck / rotate camera

Up/Down - Control bet size

A - Confirm

L/R/L+R - Use with up/down to increase/decrease bet size more rapidly

It's a horse race, but with rubber duckies.

DS Homebrew: Really Bad Eggs v20110627

ant512 has released the first alpha phase of his latest homebrew project, Really Bad Eggs. If it sounds or looks familiar, it's because it's a remake of Super Foul Egg, the freeware Commodore Amiga version of Puyo Puyo.

The dev also notes: There's still a lot of work to do on the presentation side of things, but the game itself is mostly complete. The only issue that you might run into is the number of block colours. Although the menu system suggests that you can choose to have 4, 5 or 6 block colours in a game, only the first 4 have been implemented. Choosing 5 or 6 colours will crash the DS.

As for the contribution you can make for him, ant512 calls out to graphics people out there for the following:

A title screen to replace the current plain text when the game starts up;

A background image for the menu system (though I could just re-use the title screen, probably blurred and greyscaled);

A background image for the high score table (not coded yet);

A graphic for the bottom screen when a game is being played with areas to put the current level, number of chains, score and incoming garbage count.
