Bioware’s MMORPG goes live for some users today, but getting into the game could prove to be a challenge.
Did you pre-order a copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic? Are you in the early access program? If so, I hope you have better luck getting into the game than most players seem to be having. While the game’s early access program has officially launched, the official website servers are having a tough time keeping up with the sudden influx of players.
Making the problem worse is everyone repeatedly spamming the site to see if their early access program has begun – users are to be added in a staggered rollout over the next few days. If you’re waiting to get in, remember two things: One, you should receive an email when your access goes live. Two, it’s just a game – you can make it a couple more hours without playing. Relax on the F5.
With the launch of early access, EA and Bioware officially begin their experiment to see what happens when you spend more money on a video game than anyone has ever spent. While there are some that suspect the game will go down in flames, all recent trends point to the title becoming a success, even if not a massive one.
Has your early access opened up yet? Let us know how the game is handling new players!

Despite a hugely successful launch, the game can’t top Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2 for weekly online play. At least, not this week.
Battlefield 3 sold over five million copies in its first week of launch. That’s a pretty successful release from the perspective of EA and DICE, but certainly not anything for Activision to lose sleep over. Now we have a bit more evidence that BF3 may not be quite the CoD killer EA hoped, in the form of the last week’s Xbox Live stats.
Battlefield 3 landed squarely in third place, behind 2010’s Call of Duty: Black Ops and 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. While it’s a bit unfair to compare the numbers for the release week, considering that Battlefield 3 launched on Tuesday and counting starts on Monday, it’s still stark reminder that as far as the imagined battle of the titan goes, Call of Duty is still the king of the roost.
Heres’ the top ten:
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Modern Warfare 2
Battlefield 3
Gears of War 3
FIFA 12
Halo: Reach
Batman: Arkham City
Madden NFL 12
Forza Motorsport 4
GTA IV
Naturally, these numbers are about to take a big hit with Modern Warfare 3 launching on the 8th, so it’s unclear what exactly will happen. My guess is that we’ll see MW3 take the top slot and BF3 take number two, with the other two titles falling considerably as more players pick up either of the new releases.
As for who is going to win the war between juggernauts? Who cares? Just get the game you like and play it. After all, this “competition” is really nothing more than a sharp marketing effort to send droves of people to either of the games – Activision and EA are very much in this together.
So, which of the top ten titles did you spend your time on this week?

The holiday new-game avalanche begins next week. Which new top-tier title are you planning on picking up?
We’re a full week into October now, and the holiday games rush is just starting to pick up. While next week’s launch is relatively small compared to the weeks to come, it still marks an important transition from the regular game launch schedule into the full-tilt holiday barrage. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the big titles headed our way in the month of October.
October 11 - Forza Motorsport 4
An Xbox 360 exclusive, “Forza Motorsport 4” boasts new cars, graphical improvements and improvements in both car handling and tuning. Reviews have been trickling in all week and the general consensus seems to be that the game holds up to its predecessors, especially when it comes to online racing. There’s a demo available now on Xbox Live.
October 18 - Batman: Arkham City
Following the events of “Arkham Asylum,” “Arkham City” revolves around the Riddler and yet another set of nefarious deeds conducted by familiar Batman villains. Preliminary reviews have been extremely positive, so it looks like this is going to be a critical darling come release. As a side note, if you pre-order this game at Wal-Mart, you’ll get a $10 gift card and the original “Arkham Asylum: GOTY Edition” as bonuses.
October 25 - Battlefield 3
While there are certainly huge titles coming out this year, much of the gaming press has been focused on the upcoming showdown between EA’s “Battlefield 3” and Activision’s “Modern Warfare 3.” This newest iteration of the “Battlefield” franchise is sure to be a juggernaut and features a new graphics engine that’s very, very pretty. The multiplayer beta is still live if you want to get an early taste.
October 24 - Kirby’s Return to Dreamland
Okay, so admittedly this game isn’t on the same scale as the other three, nor does it have any chance of becoming a massive hit in the way that “Battlefield 3” probably will. That being said, Kirby’s newest adventure is probably the biggest Nintendo title of the month, followed by a new “Professor Layton” title and “Pokémon Rumble Blast.” Since none of the three big titles are headed to Nintendo consoles, it looks like Nintendo fans will just have to make due.
What game are you planning on buying this month? “Battlefield 3” is a sure thing for me, but I’m really digging the “Forza” demo.

With its release just around the corner, Microsoft has now launched the demo of Forza Motorsport 4 on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
The demo will give you a peek at the Quick Race Option, as well as the handsome cars such as the 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, Kia cee'd, 2011 Subaru WRX STI, and the 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO.
These cars you can bring cruising along the Bernese Alps, which will be open for purposes of demo.
Anyway, do note that the demo is only exclusively available to Gold subscribers, so Silver subscribers, unfortunately, will just have to wait until the official release of the game.
It shouldn't be for too long anyway since Turn 10 will be coming out with Forza 4 as soon as next week.
