The world’s favorite blue blur returns to Android.
Hey Android users! Have you conquered the many challenges offered by Sonic 4, Episode I? Need another speed fix before you start charging down your neighborhood streets looking for golden rings? Sega has you covered.
The company has just confirmed that Sonic 4 Episode II is nearly ready for its Android debut. The game should show up in the Android Marketplace sometime this spring, though the exact date is still floating in the ether.
However, if you just have to get a taste of the game right now, you can watch this trailer:
Oh, I’m not an Android user but this sounds important: Sonic 4 Episode II will be coming to both dual-core and quad-core Tegra-based systems. Sega didn’t provide any information on whether this exclusivity will remain, or if the game will eventually bounce to all Android devices.
Make of that what you will. Ready for another go-round with the blue blaze?

Deal with it, Brazil.
If you tuned in for Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct broadcast this morning, you were treated to yet another incredibly boring video with a few spread out game trailers. However, if you managed to stick through the thing until close to the end, you’re also aware of what we’re about to reveal here on the site: Mistwalker’s insanely popular RPG, The Last Story, is headed to North America.
The game, which was published by Nintendo in Europe and Japan, will be distributed by XSEED Games. There’s no official release date as of yet; all we know is that you can expect to see the game sometime in 2012. This is the second good bit of news for Nintendo fans, following the Xenoblade Chronicles release date announcement earlier today.
If you didn’t watch the Nintendo Direct broadcast, you can watch it below for information on Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, Fatal Frame and – gasp! – Mario Tennis:
Are you amped to see more RPGs coming to the Wii in 2012? Also, how awkward is Reggie Fils-Aime?

A young documentarian explores the depths of game addiction in a student film.
We’re all avid gamers. I think that’s safe to say, since we’re all here either writing or reading about games. However, there’s a thin line between being passionate about a subject and being completely obsessed. Game addiction is a very real problem for thousands, if not millions of people. In my days of WoW raiding, it wasn’t uncommon to hear stories of abandoned wives, lost jobs and other nasty consequences of being unable to pull oneself away from the screen.
Anthony Rosner, a third-year student at University of Central Arkansas, decided to plunge headlong into the world of game addiction with his short film, IRL. The movie focuses on World of Warcraft, but gamers of all varieties will likely find something with which to identify.
If you have about ten minutes to kill, the movie is definitely worth a look:
If anything, IRL provides us with an opportunity to discuss the perils of game addiction. When do you think passion crosses over into addiction? Have you ever had to forcefully pull yourself or a friend out of a game?
Let us know in the comments.

It’s only been a couple of months since Rayman: Origins swept the hearts of critics and Rayman fans alike, but Ubisoft isn’t one to rest on its laurels. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll be happy to learn that yet another Rayman game is headed your way, though it’s one with which you are likely already familiar.

The game, which is currently set for release on March 21, contains everything you remember from the original, plus nine new mini-games and support for resolutions up to 720p. Even the sound has been re-mastered.

The bloody platformer slices its way to PC, Xbox Live Arcade and PSN next month.
Shank, a game that centered on one man’s extremely violent quest for revenge, was a runaway platforming hit. Shank 2 picks up where the story of the original left off, placing players into the shoes of the very same character, albeit with new moves and new weapons for brutally dispatching foes.
Klei Entertainment, the company behind both Shank titles, announced that Shank 2 would be making its official debut on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and PC on February 7. European gamers will have to wait a day, however, as their launch isn’t scheduled until February 8.
Shank 2 is similar to its predecessor in terms of game mechanics; however, Klei has added a new survival mode which allows you to cooperate with a friend (online or nearby) to dispatch endless waves of ever-more-dangerous foes. It looks like the stuff that worked in the first game is still present, with a few tweaks and additions here and there.
Did you play the original Shank? What did you think?

Need to know how to survive in a post-apocalyptic wasteland? Watch this new trailer for I Am Alive and you’ll be well on your way.
I Am Alive’s official release is drawing ever closer, and to celebrate Ubisoft has released a brief trailer that shows off some of the stuff gamers can expect when they finally fire up the game. You’ll see a bit of wandering, a touch of climbing and a whole lot of dust, but that’s about it. The whole thing is presented as a sort of video blog from the game’s protagonist as he explains the basic rules of survival.
Check it out here:
While the trailer does establish some gameplay elements, combat and enemies are noticeably lacking. Ubisoft may want to keep that stuff on the down low until the game is closer to release; I Am Alive is currently slated for an early 2012 launch. The title has been in development for over three years now, and has gone through a couple of developers during its lifespan.
In the meantime, all we know is that the game was rebuilt from the ground up when the new development team took over, and that the story revolves around one young man’s efforts to stay alive in a dangerous, disintegrating world. You’ll meet other survivors, gather goods, and do whatever you can to stay out of the toxic clouds that coat the ground.
What do you think of this latest trailer?

Croteam eschews product codes or secure-ROM and comes up with a much better and more awesome way to deal with pirates.
The heated battle between gamers and game companies regarding piracy rages on, with publishers placing ever-more restrictive DRM on their games, sometimes to the detriment of paying customers. Always-on DRM and other such catastrophes often do more to hinder legitimate customers than sneaky pirates, who inevitably crack the security measures and play on, trouble-free.
But some developers have absolutely brilliant methods for dealing with piracy, and they have nothing to do with DRM. Instead, they code the game to recognize when it’s been pirated, and play differently as a result. For example, if Arkham Asylum thinks it has been stolen, Batman becomes incredibly clumsy and unable to glide. Cracked did a great article on this interesting method of fighting pirates, you can read it here if you’re interested.
Croteam’s solution is just as awesome as a clumsy Batman. If you pirate a copy of Serious Sam 3 and the game figures out what happens, you’ll be constantly followed and attacked by a massive and invincible pink scorpion monster.
Check it out in action:
This is by far the best way to deal with pirates. It’s not inconvenient for paid gamers, and it only affects people that illegally download the game. More companies should look into anti-piracy measures like this, just for the amount of entertainment it gives everyone in the non-pirate community. It’s especially funny when a pirate complains about the feature on the game’s official forums and is promptly smacked down for pirating, as was the case with Arkham Asylum.
What do you think of Croteam’s piracy solution?

Hey, remember that game Battlefield 3 that still totally exists? It’s getting a few changes in an upcoming patch.
The tactical light in Battlefield 3 is by far one of the worst ideas in the history of first-person shooters. At least, it is in its current incarnation, which blinds every player within a ten-mile distance regardless of whether they’re indoors or standing in broad daylight.
Still, the tactical light could be something special with just a little bit of love, and DICE seem to be well aware of the problem. Developer Alan Kertz posted these images on his Twitter feed, noting the before and after-patch intensity of the light’s now-familiar glow:
Those of you that are fans of the flashlight shouldn’t throw a hissy fit quite yet, because it’s still retaining its sun-like intensity. It will just be effective at a much shorter range than previously, which makes perfect sense when you think about how a flashlight works in real life. Frankly, I’m surprised they didn’t dumb this thing down after the beta.
DICE is also working on balance adjustments for anti-air guns, noting the impact they have on airborne vehicles may be a bit too touchy at the moment. They’re also reportedly working on making jets a bit more useful to the ground game and improving players’ ability to stay alive while flying, but we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out.
Are you happy to see the tactical light being toned down, or are you too busy playing Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3 to care?

Gameloft drops a brand new FPS title to your phone or tablet, bearing a pretty familiar moniker and dancing with Activision’s legal devils.
If you’re following game news (and you’re reading this, so I assume you are), you’re probably familiar with a little title abbreviated as MW3. Activision’s latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise is going to be a sales juggernaut and there’s not much anyone can do to stop it. Gameloft seems to have another idea: capitalize on the hype with a similar looking and sounding game. The title, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nations, is a fully realized FPS aimed at your Android or iOS device later on this week.
The game features a wide array of multiplayer maps, customizable weapons and more than a few perks that will be familiar to the Modern Warfare crowd, such as Sleight of Hand for quicker reloads and scoping. Modern Combat 3 is set for an October 27th release, though it’s important to remember that Gameloft titles usually drop for iOS devices a few days before they hit the Android market. Either way, you’ll be able to play it eventually.
Modern Combat 3 boasts full online play with stats tracking and leaderboards. The game supports matches of up to 12 players and plays out a lot like Call of Duty, with death match and capture games making up the bulk of the experience. If you’re looking for a console-like shooter on your Android device or your thing that starts with a lowercase “i,” this may be the game for you.
What’s really amazing to me is how Gameloft has managed to thrive without being obliterated by lawsuits. I guess as long as they dance around the copyright effectively, they don’t have much to worry about. It’s not like EA or Activision owns the FPS genre, and most shooters are pretty generic nowadays.
Do you think phones and tablets can provide a satisfying FPS experience? There are some that claim consoles can’t even do it right, I shudder to think of how they feel about the iPad. Even high action Wii games are shrugged off as sloppy.

For the first time since it was announced, we will now be getting to see a glimpse of what awaits us in the final three years of Harry Potter and the gang's Lego-fied adventure, thanks to this very first trailer for the LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-
Of course we all know how the story went. A lot of important characters died in the book, and shown in the movie as well, of course, such as Dumbledore and Snape. Heck, even Harry died. But he did go back to life and in the end defeeated Voldemort.
Oh, you didn't finish all the way to the end of the series? Come on, even the movie is finished already, and that's after the book came out some couple of years back! I suggest you go finish it before this game version comes out.
Not that it's going to matter in how you play the game, but am guessing it's just going to be more fun seeing the words from the book, and the scenes from the movie, transformed into these adorable building blocks.
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 comes out for all platforms conceivable (really!). As in, for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, PS Vita, PSP, NDS and 3DS later this holiday season.

Can't get enough of Zelda: Skyward Sword? Here's another bit to tide you over till its official release.
Nintendo has released a brand new trailer, this time featuring the Skyview Temple, in a little under three minutes.
Step into the world of Link's new adventure as he walks into the chamber of the Skyview Temple, serving off fatal blows to trolls and creepy crawlers on the vine-covered walls. The video should also give you a pretty much a good idea of how the controls will work on the Wii.
Just last week, Nintendo also released some more information on the game, revealing how events in the new game will only serve to grow Link and Zelda's relationship even deeper than it already is.
It's almost just right about the corner, with a release date pegged for November 20th, and Nintendo's also promised more to come in the weeks leading up to that date. Also, don't forget that the game will be coming with a full orchestral soundtrack, so do pick that one up as well if you're a huge fan of the Zelda music.

Ubisoft proudly announced that their unlikely villains to Rayman's heroic existence are getting the star treatment in Nickelodeon's planned animated TV series. The series will reportedly feature 26 half-hour long episodes, and will be shown worldwide, making the Rabbids' quest for world domination fulfilled even at least on the boob tube.
France, however, will be exempt from this rabbid display of the Rabbids come 2013, since Ubisoft's own Motion Pictures studio is working on their local offices (Ubisoft is French, in case you didn't know), for the show.
As to what slant this animated series will take on, we're not quite sure yet. Nonetheless, we're just all too happy that these bunnies are going to have their time under the Hollywood sun. In the meantime, do enjoy these videos of the Rabbids in action, from their previous outings.

Sony’s New PS3 Ad: Hit or Miss?
Is Sony’s “Long Live Play” campaign targeting the wrong audience, or is it a step in the right direction for a company that’s made more than its fair share of marketing mistakes?
Last week, Sony dropped a quick teaser video packed to the gills with PS3 game references. The video promised that something even cooler would show up on October 5th, and today they’ve followed through with the first ad in their new “Long Live Play” campaign.
If you missed our earlier post on the video, you can watch it again here:
There’s only one problem with this ad campaign, at least as far as I can see – anyone that’s going to get the majority of the references already owns a PlayStation 3. If Sony’s goal is reminding PS3 owners how great things are going, they should focus on fixing PSN’s stability issues rather than pushing out a slick ad campaign.
If Sony is looking for new gamers, especially those that don’t already own a system, I doubt this campaign is going to be very effective. Very few gift-shopping parents are going to recognize characters from “Assassin’s Creed” or “God of War,” so it’s unlikely this ad will spur them to pick up a PS3 over a Wii or Xbox 360. Besides, have you seen Nintendo’s Wii commercials?
No? Well watch this one:
Look at how the Wii brought their family together! Parents respond much better to this sort of ad than to one packed with references they don’t get. Sony may have done fans (especially those named Michael) a favor with this new campaign, but I doubt they’re going to see any sort of renewed interest in the console from people that aren’t already in their pocket. I don’t know many PS3 owners that are in a big hurry to buy another PS3, and selling PS3s seems to be the only intention the ad actually has.
What do you folks think? Effective fan service or another Sony marketing foul?

Canon Fodder DS v1.0 is a homebrew adaptation of the game with the same title, by Sensible Software and Virgin Interactive for Amiga, back in 1993.
This homebrewed version here for the DS is then actually ported off from the Wii Version, and now fit to make it more enjoyable and adept for the DS platform.
If you were a fan of the original Amiga title, then you'd be glad to know that all 71 maps, and 23 missions, have been squeezed in this tiny bundle of brewed goodness for your enjoyment.
Also, the original graphics of the Amiga version has been retained as well.
