Shank 2 Gets a Release Date

The bloody platformer slices its way to PC, Xbox Live Arcade and PSN next month.

Shank, a game that centered on one man’s extremely violent quest for revenge, was a runaway platforming hit. Shank 2 picks up where the story of the original left off, placing players into the shoes of the very same character, albeit with new moves and new weapons for brutally dispatching foes.

Klei Entertainment, the company behind both Shank titles, announced that Shank 2 would be making its official debut on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and PC on February 7. European gamers will have to wait a day, however, as their launch isn’t scheduled until February 8.

Shank 2 is similar to its predecessor in terms of game mechanics; however, Klei has added a new survival mode which allows you to cooperate with a friend (online or nearby) to dispatch endless waves of ever-more-dangerous foes. It looks like the stuff that worked in the first game is still present, with a few tweaks and additions here and there.

New Super Mario Bros Black Wii Bundle Announced

Nintendo preps for the holiday season by unveiling its newest Wii bundle, but will backwards compatibility issues cause problems for Nintendo devotees?

There’s a new Wii bundle on the block as of October 23rd, according to Nintendo. It looks like Mario Kart is finally on its way out, and stepping in to replace it is New Super Mario Bros Wii, that very fun multiplayer platformer that helps you quickly determine how much you actually like your friends.

The bundle includes the game, one Wiimote with Motion Plus, one black Wii console as well as the soundtrack to Super Mario Galaxy. This new bundle is priced at the now-familiar $149.99, and should see fair success heading into the holiday season. Unlike other Wiis, the new console is designed to sit horizontally rather than vertically.

Another strange change is the decision to remove backwards compatibility with GameCube games and devices. The new Wii console will no longer play your favorite GameCube games, and you won’t be able to hook your GameCube controllers to the device – a real miss, if you ask me. I use my GameCube controller on my Wii all the time; I like it much better than the Classic and I think there are plenty of gamers that agree with me.

Regardless, look for the new Wii bundle this fall. And if you haven’t player New Super Mario Bros Wii with a friend, you should probably get on that. It’s great fun, but also an exercise in sheer patience.

Free CryEngine 3 SDK hits 100K downloads

So remember when Cyrtek made the cryEngine 3 SKU free just last week? Well, people bit it hook, line and sinker, if the download numbers are any indication.

The CryDev website reflects that CryEngine 3 has been downloaded so 104,623 times so far. With this much people downloading the free SDK, we should be seeing much more independent games being developed. After all, that's the whole point of this exercise.

Said Crytek, "We want you to make games with CryEngine 3 that people will want to play. We hope that your work will lead to a product you can commercialize. If this is the case, before you can sell your work or your game, you must seek a development license for CryEngine 3."

So remember when Cyrtek made the CryEngine 3 SKU free just last week?

Rashad Evans is showing you how to get into that right shape fit for a UFC fighter. THQ has released this new video for UFC: Personal Trainer showing off exactly that.

The two-minute commercial should be able to give you a quick peek at what's coming your way when it comes out later in July. It doesn't give away everything, of course, but hey, that's what buying the game is for.

THQ's making sure that they'll get maximum promotion for it, too, promising a massive marketing campaign targeting various audiences, ranging from the avid UFC fan to the "lapsed exercise male, who has put on some weight because his metabolism's slowed down but his drinking and eating habits haven't changed since his early 20s."

They're reported to be spending a whopping £1 million for both TV and online spots in the UK region spanning a full month.

UFC: Personal Trainer is coming out for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, fully utilizing the motion controls.
