Cole McGrath's latest adventures on inFamous 2 garnered a T for Teen rating from the ESRB.
As always, the ESRB's rating summary should provide for another look at what you can expect from the game. Here's wha tthey have to say about inFamous 2:
"This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of Cole, a man who must stop a monster from destroying the planet. From a third-person perspective, players roam around 'open-world environments and use element-based projectiles (e.g., lightning bolts, ice spikes, power grenades) to kill mutated monsters, animal-like creatures, and gun-toting soldiers.
Combat is often frenetic and includes explosions, cries of pain, and brief blood splashes to indicate damage. Players have the ability to attack pedestrians wandering through the city and Bio Leech them while they are lying on the ground; this electrical attack sucks the life out of the injured character.
In one comic book-style cutscene, a character uses a rifle butt to strike a civilian, resulting in a blood-splatter effect. As the game progresses, players can explore a red-light district that contains advertisements infused with sexual references/ innuendo (e.g., 'Sex', 'Live Nude Girls,' 'Erotic Peep Show', and 'Latch It and Skank'); some neon signs also depit silhouettes of pole dancers.
During the course of the game, players can create their own missions and assign 'drunk' characteristics (e.g., "Happy', 'Sloppy') to non-playable characters; in one cutscene, two men are depicted drinking beer until they fall asleep. Another cutscene contains a brief drug reference (e.g. 'What happened, old guy slip you a roofie?'). The words 'sh*t' and 'b*tch' can be heard in the dialogue."

After all that's been said and done on We Dare, what does UK Ratings Board, PEGI, has to say about the whole experience, in hindsight?

Now that Ubisoft has pulled out the game from UK even before it could land, PEGI opens up further about the recent controversy it was embroiled in, defending once more their ratings decision.
In an interview with The Urban Shogun, Communications and Marketing Manager for Interactive Software Federation of Europe Dirk Bosmans sounded of on the issue of We Dare, and of course, their company's position in the matter.
Asked if PEGI should have done something more upon the first instance of backlash towards the game's rating, Bosmans said, "PEGI has communicated and defended its decision to provie the game with a '12' rating on various occassions.
The problem with the backlash was that all opinions - from both press and consumers - were based on a commercial on YouTube, while the game itself was not available to anyone. As long as no one was able to play the actual game (and see why the 13 rating was confirmed by the VSC), people based their opinion on the video advert, making it really hard for us to prove our point."
The advert in question, however, was later on taken down by Ubisoft from Internet, as requested by PEGI themselves. He thus explains:
"Within the PEGI organization, we have a number of boards and committees with representatives from different countries and backgrounds (public officials, publishers, academics, media specialists, etc.). The role of the Enforcement Committee is to ensure that the provisions of the PEGI Code of COnduct are respected.
The Code of Conduct must be signed by a publisher before they are permitted to use the EPGI system. According to the Enforcement Committee, the We Dare trailer violated one of the provisions of the Code of Conduct, and as a result, the trailer had to be removed."
In their previous statement explaining the PEGI rating for We Dare, critics swooped down on them particularly on the bit where they said that they just look at the game's content when rating, not necessarily the content. Considering that they conceded that there may be bits of "innuendo" and "non-erotic nudity", should they have taken more effort at looking at the context of the content as well?
"The concept of 'context' is often misunderstood in this, ehm... context. An act of violence or one sexual expletive in an otherwise peaceful movie may not necessarily increase the age rating for that movie, because within the context, viewers are only exposed to it for a few seconds maximum. But with games, a similar act of violence or expletive may have to be replayed a few times up to many, many times (partly depending on the skill of the player).
Content in games is often repeated over and over again and in different scenarios. This is what we mean when we say that PEGI does not take context into account and has to consider every sngle bit of content in a game."
At the end of the day, who then is to blame for this blown-up controversy? Did the media put too much ado over nothing, or was there really something to be concerned about?
"Hard to tell," he said. "News can spread very fast on the Internet without media gettng involved these days. But some media jumped to conclusions very quickly without bothering to investigate the game itself, and a few didn't hesitate to fuel the moral panic about the advertisement.
It was unfortunate that they did not ask our take on the situation. But we all know some media are notorious for doing so. The only thing PEGI could do was remain calm and repeat our well-informed point of view.
Other media were more balanced and I have to say that games press did a fair job at reporting our point of view, despite being in the difficult position of not being able to review the game."
