Guerrilla Games hiring for new game?

This is one job listing that should pump up the hype in the industry. Guerrilla Games is being reported as opening several job positions, supposedly for their newest title.

This should be expected, considering that Herman Hulst himself did divulge last year that they would like to jump into a new IP as soon as they get done with Killzone 3. Well, KZ3 is done, and it looks like they're getting ready to roll out the next project.

Word has it that the developers are looking for an AI programmer, as well as a Senior Tech programmer.

For the Senior Tech programmer, here are the requirements:

Your skills are in the fields of graphics, audio, memory management, streaming, optimization or any combination thereof. The systems you produce are efficient and easy to maintain, and they do exactly what the end-user wants (regardless of whether that end user is a 3D artist, a sound director, a game designer or another coder). You encourage other people to be ambitious as well, but you always make sure to avoid unnecessary risks.”

Meanwhile, for the AI programmer:

“AI programmers design and implement new features for the AI systems. AI programmers also assist the design department in creating game play by creating and modifying NPC behavior”.

Again, we don't know for what project this could be, but some parties are indicating that it could very well be Killzone 4. But really, it could just about be anything.

3DS layers explained

The 3DS doesn't only have 3 in its name because it features 3D technology. If you look closely, you'll realize that it also actually has three layers. What's up with that, Nintendo?

The company has so gamely come out in the open, revealing their reasoning for why they felt the 3DS just won't work if it didn't have three layers.

Apparently, the topmost layer's design is the overlapping rim for the handheld's upper face. The engineers decided that this should be a lot better than having them just carve it out from the topmost layer.

Meanwhile, the second layer houses all the external switches for the 3DS. As you can see, it's been recessed for extra protection. The wider first layer actually prevents accidental activation from the second layer.

Last but not least is the third layer. It doesn't hold any buttons, but it does contain the labels and LEDS for the controls on the second layer.

If you also look closely, there are three shades for the 3DS, one every layer. Reportedly, too, Nintendo and their designers and engineers went through a whopping 20 prototypes just to get to this model.
