Early this morning, Microsoft (via Major Nelson) announced that yet another Xbox 360 bundle was on its way to store shelves. This one, the Xbox 360 Special Edition 4GB Kinect Family Bundle (seriously?), starts shipping immediately—look for it at your local retailer sooner rather than later.

So what comes with this particular bundle? Here’s a breakdown:

EA Sports Returns to NBA Live

It’s been three years since we last visited the NBA Live franchise. NBA Live 10, released in 2009, was the last chance fans of the Live franchise had to get their LeBron James on. While a new basketball title under the name NBA Elite had been planned, it was scrapped back in 2010 after it turned out to be terrible. Since then, players have had to rely on updates to NBA Live 2012 to keep their NBA fantasies alive.

Well, update no more, basketball lovers. EA has announced that it’s bringing the NBA Live brand back this year, with NBA Live 13. According to EA Sports, Live 13 will be a brand new experience that “captures the future” of basketball. Whatever that may mean. Space Jam, maybe?

Details are relatively scant at the moment, but EA has promised an update on the game’s official Facebook page sometime next week. So stay tuned for more information.

In the meantime, you can keep an eye on the EA Sports NBA Twitter for a steady stream of NBA players playing early builds of the new title.

2K Sports Announces 2K12 Bundle

Snag MLB and NBA 2K12 for one low price. Or you could buy The Show.

2K Sports has had a good run with its 2K line of sports games, with NBA and MLB titles leading the pack. And if you’re a sports fanatic who enjoys buying what is essentially the same game every year, 2K has a deal for you: Both MLB 2K12 and NBA 2K12 will be packaged together for the low, low price of $69.99.

It’s a good deal for two games, especially if you’re the type to refresh your lineup every year. MLB 2K12 hits shelves on March 6 and the addition of NBA 2K12 into the mix will hopefully help 2K move a few extra copies of their baseball title, which is sadly the only MLB game available for Xbox 360 owners. MLB 2K doesn’t have the best track record, with quality varying wildly from title to title.

Regardless of the hit or miss quality of past MLB 2K games, 2K12 is shaping up to be an interesting addition to the franchise. The combo pack only makes the deal sweeter, although it makes the standalone game a bit of a rip-off for the non-basketball inclined. Hey, if you like sports and you don’t have a PS3, you may as well pick up the bundle.

Madden 13 Cover Star Up to Gamers

EA Sports is letting fans vote on who graces the cover of the next Madden, this time with a bigger pool of players from which to choose.

In 2011, fans of the Madden franchise cast over 13 million online votes to determine who would land on the cover of Madden 2012. Faced with a roster of 32 different players, voters eventually landed on Peyton Hills, a running back for the Cleveland Browns. This year, EA Sports is giving players the same opportunity, but with a much larger pool of contestants.

The search for Madden 13’s cover star will start with 64 players – two from each of the 32 teams in the NFL. The first round of the voting will be per-team, as EA looks to sort out which player from each team players like the most. From there, the field will shrink to 32, and fans can commence the voting. The announcement came at this weekend’s Madden Bowl, in which Tim Tebow proved he’s a better virtual football player than a real one.

Voting begins on March 7. And seriously, don’t vote for Tim Tebow.

Blizzard confirms that its annual convention will not occur this year due to a packed schedule.

BlizzCon is a yearly celebration of the games in the Blizzard universe. Fans come from all around the world to hang out with fellow WoW, Diablo and StarCraft players, as well as to get the scoop on upcoming game and expansion releases. The convention provides Blizzard fans with a way to connect to developers, and last year’s convention hosted over 26,000 players.

Sadly for fans of Blizzard games, it looks like BlizzCon 2012 won’t be happening. Citing a “jam-packed” schedule, Blizzard has elected to focus instead on its 2012 Battle.net World Championship, which will take place somewhere in Asia. This event will play host to the WoW Arena World Championship as well as the StarCraft II World Championship. Blizzard is also working on a full slate of games, adding to their crunch for time.

Here’s the official statement from Battle.net:

“We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.”

This news is definitely a disappointment to fans that have enjoyed BlizzCon in the past – especially those that can afford to road trip to California but perhaps not an international flight to some Asian locale. It’s also a curious reasoning for canceling the popular event, considering that Blizz has always had games in development during previous BlizzCons. Let the wild speculation begin!
