Duke Nukem Forever Delayed in Japan

Take-Two needs time to deliver “a better product.” TROLOLOLOLOL.

Gamers are still gagging over the huge steaming turd Gearbox Software dropped on the games industry last year. It was called Duke Nukem Forever, and though it took 14 years to get to retail shelves, it took about ten seconds after that implode into its own terribleness.

The game is being prepped for a Japanese launch (since, as you know, Japanese gamers love western titles), but Take-Two doesn’t believe the game is quite ready. The publisher has delayed Duke Nukem Forever by about three weeks, pushing it to a March 29 release. The reason? Take-Two is tweaking the game in the hopes of delivering “a better product.”

I’m not sure what Take-Two thinks they can accomplish in three weeks, unless they’re planning on replacing all of the Duke Nukem Forever discs with better games and hoping players won’t notice. Duke Nukem Forever was an unmitigated flop, with reviews so terrible the PR team supporting the game cried real Twitter tears.

Then again, there’s always hope in Japan. Perhaps Japanese gamers will find something to love about Duke and his dated methods.

NFL Blitz Returning to Consoles

EA brings back the long dormant, ridiculous football game, complete with an NFL license.

NFL Blitz was ridiculous. 30 yard downs, no penalties, super-long passes and the occasional flaming football. I liked the Blitz franchise so much that it completely ruined my ability to play any other football games, since apparently 60-yard passes aren’t what you’re supposed to try on every play in Madden.

Thankfully, people that are terrible at Madden have something to look forward to – a new NFL Blitz title.

EA recently announced that the game would be showing up on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN as a direct download title sometime in January (just in time for the Super Bowl!), and will maintain many of the identifying features fans used to love. NBA Jam announcer Tim Kitzrow is already on-board to call the play-by-play, and the game apparently includes a new mode featuring zombies and monsters. From all estimations, Blitz is aimed at becoming the ultimate throwback arcade football title.

Sounds like Blitz to me. This is just the most recent in a long line of old games made new – Duke Nukem, Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy Tactics – and it will be interesting to see how the nostalgia plays out. As we’ve seen in the last year or so, some games hold up well to our personal memories, while others fall horribly short and make us wish we had never trusted the developer in the first place.

Look for NFL Blitz on PSN and Xbox Live Arcade January 3.

Are you as excited as I am to play a new Blitz game, or do you feel like the series is too dated to be relevant? It does seem lazy to keep reviving old franchises; video games are becoming the new film industry.

Serious Sam 3 Delayed

The highly anticipated prequel/sequel to “Serious Sam: The First Encounter” isn’t going to hit its original target of an October 18th release, but don’t worry too much about it missing the holiday season.

“Serious Sam: The First Encounter,” originally released in 2001, was a first-person shooter throwback that ignores the recent trend of realism, survival mechanisms and teamwork and instead focuses on blowing things up as efficiently as possible. Based on the footage we’ve seen from the latest iteration of the franchise, “Serious Sam 3,” it looks like Croteam’s design strategy is mostly based on making things bigger and more ridiculous.

Sadly, all of you eager “Serious Sam” fans are in for some tough news today, as Croteam officially announced that “SS3” simply won’t be ready to (digitally) ship on October 18th. The company issued an apologetic and very personal statement to fans on the official “Serious Sam” forums. The statement offers some details on the delay, as well as a timeframe for the next release date:

“An official announcement about details will be released to the press later today, but we (both Devolver and Croteam) think that you guys deserve to hear it from us first:

We have been working very hard on SS3 all the way, and especially in these recent months trying to make it for the promised October 18th. In the past few days, we did some reassessments, based both on internal results, and on beta testing feedback, and determined that we would want to do some more gameplay tuning, bugfixing and optimization - more than would be possible within the given timeframe. This is the game that we have invested a lot of love and work into, and one that we know the series' fans are expecting a lot from.

So we decided it needed one extra month of development time. You will know details later in the day, but for now - one month it is - one month of extra tuning and polish that Serious Sam 3 deserves if we really love it and want it to be a great game.

It looks like you can expect to see “Serious Sam 3” on your download list sometime in November, but without a new release date there’s no real guarantee. For now, it looks like you’re out of luck when it comes to over-the-top, explosive first-person-shooters. Unless of course, you’re planning on reliving the horror that was “Duke Nukem Forever.”

10-year-old Duke Nukem Forever pre-order gets bountiful reward

This should be a classic example of the cliche that good things come to those who wait. Never mind if it takes a full decade. A guy by the handle Slash000 proudly posted online the awesome swag he received from Gearbox Software for being the ultra "patient, patient man" that he proved himself to be.

His pre-order slip, still intact is already brown with age, marked to have been made way back in 2011. Despite the repeated disappointment of fans with the recurring theme of delays and cancellations of Duke Nukem Forever, Slash000 held on to his pre-order, keepingn strong in his faith that his good ol' Duke will overcome the release challenges and prevail.

Well, his day of redemption has indeed arrived, not only getting the actual game after 10 long years of waiting, but also receiving a whopping great bag of swag. How did that happen? Simple. When he claimed his decade-old pre-order of Duke Nukem Forever, Gearbox Software got wind of it, and was so impressed that they sent him the following items:

Now that's what you get for keeping the faith! After many video game publications gave 2K's Duke Nukem Forever low scores, the PR agency for the game, Jim Redner Group, issued a Twitter statement saying any sites that gave the game low scores will be blacklisted. Is it good practice for PR agencies and publishers to blacklist sites?
