The world’s favorite blue blur returns to Android.

Hey Android users! Have you conquered the many challenges offered by Sonic 4, Episode I? Need another speed fix before you start charging down your neighborhood streets looking for golden rings? Sega has you covered.

The company has just confirmed that Sonic 4 Episode II is nearly ready for its Android debut. The game should show up in the Android Marketplace sometime this spring, though the exact date is still floating in the ether.

However, if you just have to get a taste of the game right now, you can watch this trailer:

Oh, I’m not an Android user but this sounds important: Sonic 4 Episode II will be coming to both dual-core and quad-core Tegra-based systems. Sega didn’t provide any information on whether this exclusivity will remain, or if the game will eventually bounce to all Android devices.

Infinity Ward Talks MW3 Strike Packages

Next week may be all about Battlefield 3, but let’s not forget about that other small first-person-shooter that comes out later this year.

Modern Warfare 3 is coming. You may have forgotten, what with the immense media push from EA regarding next week’s release of Battlefield 3, but that doesn’t mean the game doesn’t exist anymore. MW3 is headed to your living room very, very soon, and by all accounts, it’s still demolishing every other game in terms of pre-sales.

Activision and Infinity Ward are naturally going to poke their heads in on BF3’s publicity a bit over the next few days, and the first such announcement comes in the form of an enhanced description of the game’s newest addition - point streaks. What were originally kill streaks in the last couple of games have been modified to point streaks, which was done to help players (like myself) that don’t necessarily play Modern Warfare with the sole intent of stacking up a body count.

Essentially, you’ll be able to select one of three Strike Packages for your character, based on your individual play style. Each Strike Package has different perks; for example, the Assault package has UAVs, Predator missiles and other aggressive bonuses, while the Support package has defensive items like airdrops, EMPs and turrets.

This trailer/commercial goes in-depth regarding what players can expect from the different Strike Packages:

I may be biased since I’ve long since given up on Modern Warfare in favor of Battlefield, but I just don’t think we’re going to see many of those alternative Strike Packages in use during regular play. Established teams might make them work, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see everyone locking into the one Strike Package that seems best geared at generating kills.

Maybe I’m wrong – which Strike Package will you take on November 8th?

Dead Island gets new patch, Trophies

Not wanting to disappoint all those fans who's kept Dead Island on top of the charts all these past weeks, Techland has now released a brand new patch to send out tweaks and fixes for the game.

They're throwing in new Trophies as well to further up that gaming challenge. But first, on the new patch.

This release is called Update 1.02, which is made available for PS3 gamers in EU and the US regions. No idea yet as to if and when it will come out to other territories, but it is said to improve connectivity between players.

As for the additional Trophies thrown in the mix for the upcoming Bloodbat Arena DLC, you'd want to check out the screenshot below:

Dead Island has been consistently reigning on top of the charts, particularly in the UK, giving credence to the hype that surrounded it prior to its launch, albeit a very problematic one. Good thing the game turned out good, or else even the devs who left an "insider joke" in the game would have absolutely no reason to laugh.

It's wave after wave of details for Arc System Works' upcoming RPG title, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND. As the title of this article points out clearly, we've got here the release date of the game for Japan, details on its soundtrack, and of course, that much-awaited boxart.

First things first, BlazBlue EXTEND will be coming to Japan, via the platforms of the PS3, Xbox 360 and PS Vita, on December 17th, 2011. Now, for the soundtrack, the OST will apaprently be coming along as a pre-order bonus item, again, for those in Japan.

As for the boxart, you can check it out below. That's actually for the console versions; the Vita boxart will be following shortly, hopefully.

The Vita version of BlazBlue EXTEND has been confirmed to get new story modes and 3G online capabilites among others. Meanwhile, more details on the console versions can be found here in this link.

Sony: Don't import PS Vita, Western release date coming soon

Sony may be yet to set an official release date for the PlayStation Vita to the North, but if there's one thing they'd be willing to tell you, it's that it should be worth the wait when does it land in the region.

Sony Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida, advised folks via Twitter not to import the handheld from Japan. Not that there should be anything wrong with it, but the Japanese model does have some button differences as that with the Western ones. Having a different button layout from the one you're used to will surely affect how you enjoy using the handheld to its fullest.

Said Yoshida in his tweet: "There are people who are interested in importing the Japanese version of PS Vita from Japan, but I personally do not recommend that."

He furthered, "Sorry to make you wait a bit longer. We will update the launch dates outside Japan soon." While he wasn't more forthcoming as to when Vita could come out to the West, he did explain his recommendation against importation.

"Sorry I'm not explaining well," he said, "but from my experience owning both US and Japan game consoles of everything, there tend to be minor nuances. Like inconsistency between the use of X and O buttons between system software and games. It's a legacy, but in Japan circle means 'yes', cross means 'no'."

That should explain why the buttons have a different meaning for their region. It's a nifty trivia as well, don't you think? That should keep all those complaints at bay, now that we understand better about the cultural implications of how the Japanese work out their hardware.

At the TGS 2011, Sony yielded more PS Vita details, such as on its multitasking capabilities, Flash, web browsing and memory cards. Just last week, too, they showed off the Vita's PS3 Remote Play function.

Shank devs ready to work on a new project

After being MIA from the game development scene for about a year, Klei Entertainment is ready to dive back right into the thick of things.

The Shank developer has confirmed that they are in fact working on a new title. Going over to their Twitter account, the devs say, "we're going to be announcing stuff soon... hope indies don't get buried!".

It's all very cryptic for now (but of course they wouldn't want to ruin the surprise!), and that only makes it all the more exciting. Klei Entertainment was the team that brought us the 2D side-scrolling brawler, Shank, which made waves on the Xbox Live Arcade back in 2010.

It sure is great to hear from these guys after all. Seeing what they've done with Shank, they can only do so much better at this point.

Star Wars Kinect has been a subject of curiosity for fans - and naysayers - all over. We know the prospect if wielding your very own lightsaber is awesome, but to actually see it translated through Kinect adds tens more to the excitement.

Dual Pixels got their lucky hands on a preview for the game, and so far, so they sya, "the controls of Star Wars Kinect are by far the most interesting aspect of the game."

Star Wars Kinect is making sure they've got the hype down pat, with a Limied Edition bundle coming out for Australia. The game's been pretty quiet ever since its reveal at this year's E3 event in LA, but we're hoping to find out more about it in the days/weeks to come.

Under Siege goes live on PSN

Seed Studios happily announced at their "little big game", Under Siege, is now available on the PSN.

The "action and strategy game in real time, where a small group of heroes fight against a huge invading army" features support for the DualShock 3 and the PS Move controllers.

The game also gives you a choice among six languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. That way, there should be no language barrier whichever you may prefer, for you to fully enjoy the gameplay modes they have packed in for you - full campaign, two-player multiplayer online, and local play.

One of the highlights of the game is the Editor function that Seed Studios have added in for you:

Sculpting and painting the

Adding water to create rivers and lakes

Changing lighting intensity, colour, position and other effects

Placing and rotating props like trees, houses, walls and more

Placing units and determine their AI, line of sight, colour and team

Creating cutscenes with your own lines of text and many different characters

Above all, creating your own logic with a simple trigger system that allows for the creation of new types of levels, modes and even totally different gameplay.

If you want to get your hands on it, you can purchase it online for US$ 19.99. If you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, however, you can get it at a much cheaper rate of US$ 10).
