Nintendo may finally be stepping in on one of the most hotly contested issues in the history of gaming.
The Legend of Zelda series began 25 years ago. Since then, we’ve seen a dozen innovative and engaging titles on systems from the Game Boy to the Wii. However, one thing that’s always remained elusive is the way in which these games fit together. Fan-made timelines exist all over the web, but Nintendo’s only response so far has been to refute those theories and argue that there wasn’t an “official” timeline at all.
Of course, things can always change. Hot on the heels of Shigeru Miyamoto mentioning some sort of “master document” at Nintendo HQ, the official Zelda timeline may in fact be a reality. Hyrule Historia, a celebratory book created in honor of the series’ 25th anniversary and officially designed/written by Nintendo, apparently contains the closest thing to an official timeline any of us has ever seen.
Naturally, there are no actual scans of the pages revealing the timeline, only reports from fans that have already obtained the book. According to them, Zelda splits into three timelines instead of the traditionally accepted two. Here’s a breakdown:
First Branch
Skyward Sword
The Minish Cap
Four Swords
Ocarina of Time
Second Branch (When Link becomes a child again)
Majora’s Mask
Twilight Princess
Four Swords Adventure
Wind Waker (new Link)
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
Third Branch (assumes Link was defeated in Ocarina of Time?!)
A Link to the Past
Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Link’s Awakening
The Legend of Zelda
The Adventure of Link
Personally, I’ve always subscribed to the “Legends” theory – each Zelda game is a legend and is meant to be taken completely on its own. But, that’s just me. We’ll keep you posted as details emerge - it’s entirely possible this is the long-awaited Zelda timeline.
What do you think about the three-timeline theory? Too weird? Too complex?

Nintendo is bringing an all-new 3DS handheld unit to stores as they celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game that started it all, The Legend of Zelda.
Another day, another version of the Nintendo 3DS hitting stores. It seems like the news this fall has been packed with different 3DS releases, with colors, bundles and all variety of weird rumors floating all over the web. Today is no different, as Nintendo has announced one more 3DS bundle for the holiday season.
The new bundle features a special edition Zelda 3DS handheld that’s black with gold accents, and will include a copy of Ocarina of Time 3D. You’ll find this very classy-looking bundle on sale in Europe on November 25th, but I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t bring the Zelda bundle to the States as well – Zelda is a pretty big deal over here.
Nintendo’s strategy with the 3DS seems to be evolving into “paint it, put a game in it, and sell it.” I’m not sure how it’s going to work out for them, but seeing this 3DS bundle marked the first time I’ve felt compelled to buy a 3DS since its release.
I’m still holding out for the “Lite” version, or its equivalent. What about you? Is a special edition handheld enough to sell you a 3DS?

The 25th year of The Legend of Zelda definitely has got all the fans up in a frenzy of excitement. Yet another event was announced in honor of the said occassion, this time courtesy of videogame festival GameCity.
The said event is the Zelda Anniversary Takeover Day, happening in Nottingham's Old Market Square, on October 29th, Saturday. Basically, the whole square will be magically transformed in a Hyrulean market, much to the definite delight of fans. Among the many activities line up for this festivity are the make-your-own sword and shield booths, or the Ocarina lessons. If you just want to chill out, then you can head over to the LonLon Milk bar and have a sweet fix. If you complete all these, then you will be rewarded with pieces of the Triforce, and tehreby be able to complete the Hero's Quest.
Probably the best thing about all of these, however, is the fact that the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, will be available for hands-on play throughout the day. That's some three full weeks ahead of folks who are just going to have to wait till the game comes out to the market on the official date of November 18th.
Of course, there's plenty more to do there, as the Takeover Day is just a part of a bigger ongoing occassion, which is the GameCity festival. So be sure to make your way around and enjoy the sights, sounds, play, and more.
Nintendo has launched an official 25th Anniversary Website, where fans can take on a little nice trip down memory lane. If you can't come to Nottingham for the Takeover Day, then you can just head over to Los Angeles in October for the Zelda orchestra concert.

Talking to GameInformer, Nintendo's legendary Zelda creatoer Eiji Aonuma expressed his excitement over the Wii U's technology. Particularly, he's very interested in seeing how the Wii U can help facilitate the evolution and change of Zelda.
Said Aonuma, "The demo that we showed at E3 was really just more of a rough idea of if all we were to do was to take a Zelda game and put it in HD, this is what it might look like. We're much more interested in looking at the power of the Wii U system and seeing how we can take advantage of that power to do things that we haven't been able to do in a  Zelda game before... One of our goals with [Skyward Sowrd] is to be the first step in illustrating for people how the Zelda series can change and evolve."
Am pretty sure fans of Zelda are also curious how the developers could still recreate a classic and legendary franchise such as Zelda. Usually, people are rather averse at the notion of change and evolution especially when it comes to something that is offers a high sense of familiarity. This, therefore, should definitely be a challenge to them.
If it does work out, then it's a win-win for everyone. The developers would have made a breakthrough, and the fans would be given a new treat in the form of an old favorite. If not, however, then, hey, at least we've got the classic Zelda to always fall back on.
Zelda: Skyward Sword is coming out with a golden bundle for both North America and Europe, much to the delight of solid fans. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the franchise as well, the Symphony Orchestra will be touring in October, kicking it off in Los Angeles.

It's shiny, it's golden, it's a bundle coming to UK and Europe. Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be all pimped and blinged up.
The gold bundle will be an exclusive limited edition, containing the game, a gold Wii Remote Plus displaying the Hylian crest, and a CD of the Zelda Orchestra performance, which will be part of the 25th Anniversary Symphony concert.
As added bonus, they're also throwing in the 3D Soundtrack CD of Ocarina of Time. This CD, however, will only have a very limited number of units, so it's definitely going to be available on a first come-first served basis.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword gold bundle was first confirmed for North America just yesterday. Meanwhile, you can catch the concert tour this October at Los Angeles.
You can also go visit their official website for more information.

In celebration of Zelda's 25th Anniversary, Nintendo launched to the public an official Japanese website specially made for the occassion.
In it, you can find everything there is to know about the franchise's history, from the very first title, to the most recent and upcoming ones.
It's definitely a trip down nostalgia lane, with various mementos on Zelda showing up, from soundtracks to orchestra performances, downloadable wallpapers, and many more.
We do expect them to continue filling up and updating the site the rest of the year to continue the celebration.
If you want to catch the Zelda orchestra live, then you might as well pick up your tickets now from Ticketmaster. The orchestra will be coming to Los Angeles later this October. If there's one thing you can scratch off your wishlist for this occassion, though, is a Zelda Collection. No siree, it's not happening, already said Nintendo.

Did you know that WiiMotion Plus almost didn't make it to the  Zelda: Skyward Sword cut? This trivia was revealed by no less than producer Eiji Aonuma, in a recent interview with IGN.
According to his revelation, the game had already been in development for some couple of months without the WiiMotion Plus feature in the scene, until developer Katsuya Eguchi helped bring it back to the developing table.
"Mr. Eguchi came to me and said, 'Look at all these things you can do with Motion Plus, why wouldn't you use this in a Zelda game? It would be strange not to!'"
And with that, the WiiMotion Plus was immediately put back in the grind, thanks to Eguchi's decisive insistence. Zelda: Skyward Sword is coming out exclusively for the Wii this holiday season.
This year marks the franchise's 25th Anniversary, and to celebrate it, Nintendo confirmed at this year's E3 that it will be getting an orchestral tour. They also showed off some Zelda tech demo on Wii U footage.

Ubisoft will be holding their media event at the E3 next month, but it will strictly be open to press only. So what's going to be in store for those lucky ones who will get behind those doors?
According to Ubisoft, those who will get the invites will be "treated to never-before-seen demonstrations of Ubisoft's fiscal year 2012 line-up and exclusive new announcements." After the talkies, fans and press will then be able to get their hands on those titles for the rest of the E3 dates, at the Ubisoft booth.
It would appear that some of the games to be put on display are the following:
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Call of Juarez: The Cartel
Ghost Recon Future Soldier
The Adventures of Tintin
From Dust
Also to look out for would be the exclusive Rocksmith-branded tour bus that will be right outside the venue, the Los Angeles Convention Center. "Located in the concourse walkway between the West and South Halls, consumers can hop on the bus to demo the revolutionary new music experience that is the first and only game that plugs into any real guitar."
But apart from their E3 presence, Ubisoft is also keeping busy with their upcoming 25th anniversary celebrations. They're still pretty vague on the details but they're already reassuring fans that they will be "delivering our strongest and most diverse brand portfolio to date, with titles spanning all major genres and platforms."

Nintendo has been busy squashing worries of Wii fans over the seemingly lack of games coming out for the console as of late. The company has repeatedly reassured the folks that there will be some major titles coming out this year, it's really just a matter of time.
One such anticipated title is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aiime, this game should be the epitome of the company's innovation.
"We continue to be distinctive based on the software and I think the best example of how we continue to be distinctive and innvovative is going to be Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, because now you have a motion based game that's a traditional, core type of product."
There's more that Reggie talks about in this video interview here with IGN. Here, they delve into questions surrounding the Wii's sales numbers, the software (or the apparent lack of it), as well as the 25th Anniversary for good ol' Link and the rest of the Zelda crew.
Check it out below.

Nintendo's campaign reassuring Wii fans that there are more software to come for the console continues on, spearheaded by The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
